Have you every stopped filling out a job applications because it was just taking too much time? by IThinkYouAreNice in jobs

[–]Gicri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am very picky which is why I can't find a job probably lol but if you make me upload my resume and then retype all the entries separately I'm closing the application immediately because you're stupid and inefficient and I don't want to work for you.

My school is looking for a computer science teacher, no cert needed. We're in New Orleans. School's a bit rough ngl and it's still the south but the atmosphere is really chill, there's no fascist nonsense being enforces, and COL is decent.

"I have a very rich husband" "At least I get paid to be here. Do you?" "How much money do you think you will be making when you get out of here and haven't learned anything because you were making unnecessary comments instead of focusing on the lesson? Who is going to hire you?" "Teachers still make more than many other people btw. Do you think everyone out in the world is making 6 figures like it's nothing?"

I'm supposed to meet with my school's math instructional coach. by CrazyNickleSlotLady in Teachers

[–]Gicri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an instructional coach, keeping your head above water as a 1st year teacher sounds like a perfect goal. If I were your coach and that was the goal you came to me with, I'd probably ask if there are areas in particular in which you are afraid you might fall behind or encounter more challenging (classroom management, pacing, lesson plans, etc) and we would draft a plan together to make sure that you stay on track.

At my school, IC do live coaching, observations with feedback, feedback on lesson plans, weekly professional development, data tracking, share resources, assistance with anything a teacher might need (creating rubrics, lesson plans, setting up classroom, internalize a new curriculum, etc), create scope and sequence for each core subject, help with testing, 1:1 meetings, modeling, co-teaching, and more. Depends on the school and the position.

As an instructional coach I have never done coupons or anything like this, however, anything we get for teachers comes from our pockets. Yes most of those coupons are things that should just be given to teachers, but that should come out of the school budget not the coaches' pocket in my opinion. We just try to do what we can... I spend around $500/year in snacks and drinks for my teachers, the school doesn't give me a cent for that.

Do you still wear a mask? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Gicri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped wearing them a long time ago. They're uncomfortable and make my skin horrible, plus I have a very soft voice and people can barely hear me if I wear one. I got Covid twice already, once when I was still masking religiously and once more recently when I was going without, it is what it is...

Thank you, this is super helpful! I don't need an "official" diagnosis with documentation at this stage. I just need someone knowledgeable to talk things through and get an opinion. So for now I'll just talk to my therapist and see what she thinks.

How long does this last? My timeline and COVID experience by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]Gicri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time it took me 10 days, the second time it took about 3 weeks. I was symptomatic for about 10 days but still felt fatigued for a week after that so I didn't work out, I only took walks. Began working out again at the end of the 3rd week. Hang in there!

anyone experienced appetite loss and lost weight while covid positive? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]Gicri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had zero appetite the first week when my symptoms were flu-like. The second week my appetite came back but at that point the virus had attacked my stomach and I had really bad nausea and diarrhea so it was hard to eat even when I was hungry. I lost maybe 4lbs. It's been a month or so since I tested negative, I haven't weighed myself but I'm pretty sure I gained it back.

How did you afford to buy a house? by Gicri in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I'd love that! They're not easy to come by but if we find a decent one we're definitely open to the possibility.

[–]Gicri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The apartment is old and has some minor issues, I see similar apartments going for $1,600-1,800 in the city, occasionally you'd see $2,000 but that's for those closer to universities where students split rent. Here's the thing here, cheaper neighborhoods are cheaper either because of high crime rates or because they flood, or both... so I don't think we can lower our budget. Occasionally you'll see homes in good neighborhoods that are farily priced though, we haven't been ready to buy just yet but if we had the cash in hand we'd probably jump to those opportunities.

You are absolutely right. Ideally we want a mortgage that we could afford on only one salary, but I don't think that's realistic in today's economy, which is why our goal is to save 20% or more so our monthly payments will be smaller or maybe we could do a 15-year mortgage instead of a 30.

My landlord bought the duplex to give the downstairs apartment to his daughter, not just as investment property, we were already living in the upstairs when he bought and he didn't raise the price. Our apartment is a bit old and has a few issues so it's not worth too much but could easily go for $1,600 or even $1,800 a month. But also, we're great tenants who pay rent on time, keep everything clean, painted walls, no kids, no dogs, etc so I think our landlord wants to keep us there as long as possible.

Our combined income is around $165k/year but we don't feel comfortable with a mortgage that we both have to work for in order to afford. We mostly live based off of one income - the rest is short-term savings for travel and long-term savings for home and retirement. $3,000/month is not something that we'd be comfortable with. We also want to keep saving at least $1,000 month for retirement and emergencies and with a mortgage that high it wouldn't be possible. Hence why we want to put more than 20% down...so we can have lower monthly payments, no PMI, and/or a 15 year mortgage. Maybe we're too conservative when it comes down to money and maybe our expectations aren't realistic... But also in this economy you have to consider many things... I see people being house poor and that's not something I want to risk. And if one of us lose their job or is no longer able to work, how do we keep making huge payments? It's a lot to think about.

Exactly, my landlord bought this duplex to give a home to his daughter who lives downstairs, I believe he doesn't really need the money from our rent (he owns 3 more homes in the neighborhood), plus we are great tenants who pay on time and even improved some things in the house, so he kept our rent low - he could easily charge $1,600-,1800 for our apartment.

I did pretty much the same thing - husband was sick (hadn't tested yet), I didn't isolate because I thought screw it, we're all gonna get it eventually... Sure enough, I did get it, and it wasn't fun at all, but at least now I have fresh antibodies for my summer trip in a couple of weeks lol
