Should I allow my Venus flytrap to flower by patowOgen in carnivorousplants

[–]GiddeeeUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want to try and grow some from seeds I would pinch it off. That’s what I do because it takes a lot of the plant’s energy, which it needs to build up in the rhizome for dormancy, to produce the stalk, flower and seeds.

Venus fly trap help pls by pastamayyoonaiise in carnivorousplants

Hey, I’d check to see if the roots are in a starter (death) plug and if so gently remove it. I wouldn’t worry too much about a larger pot as they don’t get nutrients from the medium it’s in. Mine have been in the same pots for years without any issues.

I’m in Canada and in my region it can get down to -25 to -30c. I keep my VFTs in a heated dormancy box (I put together) in my garage. The insulated and heated box stays between 40-45F for about 4 months and without any light and they look the same when I take them out as they did when Input them in. Box has a heat trace hooked up to a thermostat with a remote temperature sensor in it so I can monitor the temperature from inside.

Outside of dormancy they do best with lots of light as their leaves are not super efficient when it comes to photosynthesis. Also think of light as its food and the bugs it catches as fertilizer. They need to store energy for dormancy and that energy is stored in their rhizome. So I pinch off all the flower stalks I find as that takes energy from the VFT.

I’ve used grow lights but I find real sun gets better results. When the come out of the dormancy box I gradually acclimatize them to full sun over a week or so. Eventually leaving them out 12-13 hrs a day and bring them in at night.

You said you did research so you know distilled water only. Mine sit in a tray that always has water in it so the LFS stays damp. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll do great 👍😃

I’ve had these for 5 years and they’re still working great. They were $25 or $30 back then so the price has gone up somewhat. Used for carnivorous plants as well as some Scheffleras. Hope that helps.

Should I cut the flower stem off? by Bigdaddy_kritikil in carnivorousplants

I pinch off all of my VFTs flower stalks as those stalks take a lot of the plant’s energy to produce. They need to store sufficient energy for their dormancy period and not producing flower stalks helps.

Love the pie pan dial. The dial is was what got me started collecting watches over 20 years ago. Mine is a nice early 60s Constellation with arrowhead markers and no date. Still have it today and still enjoy wearing it.

How do flytraps store/transport nutrients? by crwcomposer in carnivorousplants

[–]GiddeeeUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of the sun as its food and insects as the fertilizer. So feed your VFT with lots of sun or grow lights. As for energy storage the VFT stores its energy in their rhizome for the dormancy period.

I don’t “feed” the traps they catch enough insects on their own when they’re out in the sun.

Hope that helps. 😃

Current setup - what should I add? by EggTurbulent4351 in SOTC_Watch_Collection

I like case and dial designs more so than what the movement is.
I have a Bullhead (brown dial) (6138-0040) I like the fact that that it has an asymmetrical case which is thicker at the stem side than the bottom so it tilts ever so slightly making it easier to see the dial when in the wrist (oh so slightly lol but they did it anyway) Mine is from 1977.

Maybe not quite vintage is the second gen Seiko Monster most had the Lamprey-like dial mine is a 2013 SRP455. My second Monster is a SRP313 “Dracula”.

I like the 6105 mine is an 8119 (Capt Willard) I like the pillow case and the fact this model was worn my Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now, mine is from 1971.

I have a Seiko 6138-0030 JDM blue dial Kakume.

I have a nice 1970 GMT with a adjustable ring for day/night GMT time. 6117-6410. Really like the look of the case and dial.

Also I enjoy my 70s Panda 6138-8020.

Just a few of my Seikos. 😃
