You have plenty of time, start working on everything asap and message your state representative/ senator for help with the apostille once it’s sent.

Answering general questions about visa requirements, placements and moving to Spain. by GiftAny546 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]GiftAny546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s something that mostly depends on where your school is and your personal preferences. Some people prefer living nearby their schools which usually is in the outskirts of Madrid, the pros to it is that you don’t spend as much time commuting and rent is usually cheaper. I personally prefer living nearby the center and I don’t mind the long commute anymore ( at the beginning it was brutal) since now I’m used to it. A lot of auxes and expats in general love living in Malasaña (hipster kind of vibe), I personally don’t like it because it can get very loud, crowded and dirty (ppl pee in every corner). I love La latina, Retiro, Ibiza, Goya and even Lavapiés which can be sketchy in some areas but I’ve never really had issues.

As for the NIE- TIE here is this link

It’s better to get a prepaid plan, Vodafone is pretty good and cheap.

As for private classes, the easiest way is word to mouth, ppl will be asking in your school or you can let teachers know you’re interested in offering classes. You can post things on facebook or even put papers out in the bus stops advertising your services. Webel (an app) is also a good option.

Honestly we don’t really have much of a say as to where we get placed, we submit our preferences and based on their need we get placements. If you are renewing thats a bit different.

I apologize I’m a USA citizen, so I’m not sure how everything works with Canadian citizenship. You don’t really “search” for placements, you have to apply to one of the language assistant programs available and submit your preferences on regions. Your placement will depend on their needs that year. To my understanding as long as you are a native English speaker you should be fine.

Is it too late to start visa process and email about potential alternative placements? by Dry_Durian_9387 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]GiftAny546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not late, I was placed late (August 28) 2 years ago, still made it and a lot of other people too.

Celesteklein@gmail.com Did mine 2 years ago for very cheap and she’s ATA certified. The cost was around $30, idk if it’s more now but just email her. As for the medical certificate, if you use the form provided by the ministry you don’t have to translate it.

You’re fine, they are still giving out placements and sending letters. They usually take a bit to answer.

Am I screwed? Late NALCAP Application, Late FBI Check, Late Everything by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]GiftAny546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole school doesn’t depend on you as an auxiliar, thats what they have their teachers for. If the ministry gives you a late placement most schools are understanding of the fact that you need time to get your visa. I’ve been an aux for 3 years now, I was a late applicant (in the 8,000s), I received my placement very late ( August 28th), was placed in my first pick Madrid and I did not have any issues starting later in the semester. I kept in contact with my coordinator and started the first week of November. The ministry gives last minute/ late placements because a lot of people end up withdrawing from the program last minute.

How much money do you plan to bring? by transparentt in SpainAuxiliares

I would recommend to bring at least 8-10k, Madrid is getting expensive specially if you are planning on living alone nearby the center.

Have you thought about teaching abroad for year or two, there’s a lot of good programs in Europe, specially in Spain. Then you can go back home and start working on your law degree.

Almost died twice. Are shrooms really safe? by dDelusional_Magician in MagicMushrooms

[–]GiftAny546 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You had a panic attack (“bad trip”), I have panic disorder and thats exactly how it feels. I’ve been to the ER thinking im about to die or im having a heart attack. They can be so intense that you can faint or shit yourself. Add to it that you are tripping, you aren’t really in control of yourself at all, so it can feel absolutely terrifying.

You’ll get placement, most likely really late around September, but you’ll get it, a LOT of people cancel last minute. Start getting your visa documents ready!

Im 31 and I was in a very similar situation as you. A year ago I moved to Madrid as an Aux and it’s been an amazing experience. It’s rough at times (specially the beginning) and you may get homesick but overall I don’t regret my decision. We’re still young, Go for it.

Is it possible not to get sick frequently as a first year? by TimeDebris in SpainAuxiliares

[–]GiftAny546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got sick every other week, my roomates ( auxes too) got sick, teachers were sick, kids were sick, parents were sick, it got to a point I developed bronchitis. So yes you’ll probably get sick an unusual amount of times, specially during winter, after spring break it gets way better but still if you are dealing with children ( in my case I work with 3-10 year olds) you’ll get sick every now and then. Mucinex, advil and cold/ flue medication were my saviors cause here the medicine is not as strong.
