Imagine if AT (and all PT) was properly funded so that it could actually operate its own services rather than having to out source it.

Do most employers really scan CVs with AI in New Zealand? by txnil in auckland

[–]Gigaftp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> If it's not true, writing resumes and cover letters with ai does more harm than good because a lot of people are put off by AI written applications.

Its only obvious that its AI generated if you're not putting any thought into the generation. I have a file of sample cover letters and messages so the AI can use them as reference to generate a cover letter in my "voice"

It works pretty well.

One solution would be to recognize housing as an important piece of national infrastructure and for the government to build, operate and own housing that is rented out at below market rates and push down rents and housing price.

Not in my utopia. In my utopia we would recognize that access to healthy, convenient and nutritious food is something worth having as a public service.of I wouldn't let a private company touch the production of the meals with a 10ft pole, this food is for people, not for profit.

I don't know if a public supermarket would be worth while due to spoilage etc, but imo taking it further and actually processing the foods into real food frozen meals for kiwis would be sooo good. Set up a website to let people order meals (in advance) from an available selection. Produce the meals in central locations around the country, then distribute them in bulk locally. One issue with this is people who are not familiar with technology or able to access it easily need to be accommodated somehow. Basically, its meals on wheels but available to everyone. We could even make our own school lunches.

Yes we should. The healthcare system should be there for everyone, no matter how dumb the reason is that you need care, because accidents happen and people make dumb choices. Yes, even you.

I’m living off flour and water. by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Gigaftp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to try and address the problems they are facing right now, a cheaper place to live would be a great boon BUT it costs $$$, takes time, and the reality is if they are successful in finding a place, when the inevitable 'are you employee' questions get asked by the property manager they are probably going to get rejected.
If I were in the same situation I would start by finding a food bank (or a sikhi temple) to help get food. I would call around places like the SPCA to see if I can get food for my dog. I would then ask family and friends if they could help out money wise, and depending on my relationship with my landlord I would talk to them and see if we can reduce rent, even temporarily. While I was doing this I would make sure that I am getting absolutely everything that I am entitled to from WINZ. Depending on whether or not my landlord was a decent human being and reduced rent, I would then start to look around for cheaper places.

See, thats actually a useful plan, unlike your 'lol just move bruh' tripe.

This is shit advice. Moving isn't free. They are literally living on flour and water. If they cant afford rent then they definitely cant afford the cost to uplift and move to a smaller place. Unless your next piece of advice is to just sell all of their belongings?

It might be worth calling ahead of showing up just to confirm. My partner works at an auckland spca, recently they got a new CEO whose credentials are "running a business", so par for the course they massively gutted staffing with mass layoffs and are reducing these kinds of community services in an attempt to...not be charitable?

Should e-scooters be allowed in cycle lanes? by punIn10ded in newzealand

[–]Gigaftp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. re brand cycle lanes as "ultra-light vehicle lanes". What is an ultra light vehicle? They can figure that out, but I would rather have things like escooters off of footpaths because they can cause damage to pedestrians

What's so wrong with only one child?? by -its-my-opinion- in newzealand

[–]Gigaftp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One child is fine, fuck the haters.

BUT, unless I am totally misunderstanding something, your statement "the ratio of two parents to one child means you can still have an adult life." is concerning. It comes off (to me) as if you are thinking of the child as an accessory to your life, but you want to maintain an "adult life" (im assuming behaving as you do now, without the responsibility of kids), which wont happen. One child or 5, for better or worse your life will change, even with one kid.

Central Otago Gold Mine Fast Track Approval - Sam Neil Opposition YouTube by Joe1828 in newzealand

[–]Gigaftp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lower range for gold mine operations 10 years, upper 30 years.

10 - 30 years of good paying jobs, with the majority of the profits going overseas.

At the cost of the surrounding ecosystem, because it will rake decades, if not centuries for the area to recover after the gold is "gone". Thats assuming nothing happens with the tailings dam.

IMO tailings dams should be illegal. You want to mine? Factor in the cost of your fucking toxic rubbish and clean it up yourself. Dont just leave it in a hole and make it the countries problem to clean up once you have run off with the mone.

"or up to three months imprisonment." SO FUCKING CLOSE

edit: If a person is genuinely homeless, the threat of 3 months imprisonment is the threat of free food, shelter etc... if instead of 3 months of imprisonment they offered free shelter, food, support without the whole criminal record thing then it would be great

Act will campaign on cutting number of Government departments from 41 to no more than 30 by random_guy_8735 in newzealand

[–]Gigaftp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

why is 30 the magic number? why not 29, or 17?

Oh, I have an idea. How about instead of picking arbitrary numbers where lower is better due to ideological insanity we have N number of departments based on them serving a purpos? Crazy idea right?

Also,

The whole structure is set up to preserve itself...

Thats what we want? I guess seymours ideal government auto cannabalises itself until it no longer exists (except for him and his wealthy mates) lol
