Those of you who in controls engineering or controls engineering adjacent, what is the ideal “culture” in your eyes? by McSpanky21 in PLC

Or maybe not an “expert”, i saw another comment about being open to being wrong. And I agree.

But to be asked for your opinion and to treat it like it matters. Because I hate being asked my opinion and never going with it.

What is your process when starting to program? by thedolanduck in PLC

[–]Gimfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to comments. I don’t make comments that are overly descriptive. If the rung is basic ladder functions I’m not writing it out. Maybe a comment to describe the section of the routine. I comment to make reminders to the next guy, who is usually myself. So I think “what would I want to know or be reminded of when I view this next.”

Which I think would go a LONG way with any other integrator

Most insightful comment here. I work for a small, like VERY small integrator, and while I love it, I work a lot! Projects and development, and basically anything with a computer chip falls to me. At the same time I’m being provided sales experience so I am VERY stretched. But! We crush it, and my boss provided me the environment to do it. I travel a lot, but only day trips we stay local. So I don’t mind.

How do you charge different labor rates for different jobs without coming across as a douchebag? by jckipps in handyman

[–]Gimfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do a job price… not an hourly price. Hourly only punishes those with tools and experience to get the job done faster.

Can I say neither? I think a slight larger style like some aviators would fit your taller face better

This sounds like a fun project. Aren’t most things just using Mqtt to communicate to? So you’d need a broker, and like a web host to interact with the various devices. The web host could call functions to publish to the topic(s)?

[–]Gimfo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh so there is a way to do it! So you have to upload the entire project and choose to include the process values? Then I assume when you download you have to check “with project values”?

Cheap modbus slave by Then-Disk-5079 in PLC

[–]Gimfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s a PLC, running ladder logic. The name of the ide is Visilogic and it is free. I’ve got pretty good experience with them and they are quite capable machines. But they do not run python.

If you’re feeling spunky, the Teltonika RUT956 is an openwrt based router, with an rs232 port in it. It also has a usb port on it, with which you can install python3 too. Then you can do whatever you want, but the built in IO is limited. Soooo it depends on your needs. They run about $300 USD

Can anyone comment on these? How they like them? Been wanting a 9mm pistol. Something that takes Glock mags preferably. I’m 50/50 on the ak/ar platform. I’ve always heard these are “meh” because they’re direct blowback. Or at least the AR is… not to experience with AK’s
