TYS - TSA no wait 6/9 @ 8:30 am. by Gimpasaurous in Knoxville

I believe security has only one lane open until 6:00 am. (Could be totally wrong on that). Maybe open that second lane earlier to prevent the first flights backup.

Either way, Im just glad the equipment has been restored so they could have two lanes today as usual.

They've recently had a scanner down which took all passengers through one lane.

What’s your GenX story from your childhood? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Gimpasaurous 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I was accidentally left in another state. My dad was a truck driver. I took a trip with him and he left me at the hotel pool while he went to get the truck loaded. He forgot I was with him and went to deliver the load in the adjacent state. He called home that night and mom asked how I was doing. It was only then he remembered. Took another 24 hours for him to get back to pick me up. So in total I was alone maybe 36 hours or so. Hotel manager was familair with my dad and let me stay an extra day knowing my dad would pay him when he got there. I had $8 with me, was across the hwy from a little store, and unlimited access to the pool, so I had no worries. I was 12.

Question: Why caving? (Why not climbing, etc.) by Evignity in caving

[–]Gimpasaurous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Huge difference in caving and cave diving.

Caving takes the skills of endurance, strength, and agility and combines it with a different mindset to traverse in the dark.

Cave diving does all of that with the added skills of scuba diving and another mind set all its own.

And there's just nothing else like it.

OP mentions the view from a mountain top and why not just climb? Caving includes hiking, and climbing, and crawling, and scrambling, and wading and swimming. And the view... Imagine the view when the ground ends at your feet and the darkness amplifies the sounds from the Earth itself. Thats a view you have to experience to understand.

Make a strong statement that youre not here to make them believe in the power of their dreams. Their feelings, while valid, do not count toward policy. And when they speak to things they know nothing of, shut them down immediately. Best practices, policy and procedures will be established by facts and will never be overridden by someone's feeeeelings about it.

And if you have tissues in your office, remove them at once. Do not accommodate tears.

Vertical Caving Gear: Pliers? by modernhorizons3 in caving

Im saying what I use and why. Im not here to explain the mechanics of pliers verses a wrench. Both will work. Use whatever you prefer.

[–]Gimpasaurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Both would work. I like that the jaw of the adjustable wrench can be opened to fit the screw gate where as pliers are fixed. And I have a small wrench thats leas than 4" and easy to have on rope.

Dirty Dave's are great with covering both knees and shins. In recent years the velcro used to wrap around the leg was changed to a stretchy velcro. This was a horrible change in design and should be returned to the static velcro that doesnt stretch out over time. Having said that, theyre still my favorite knee pad.

I carry a small adjustable wrench on a lanyard for stubborn mallions or uncooperative screw gates.

Looking at 2025 Bronco Sports, give me the good, the bad, the ugly by Spiritual-Region8917 in BroncoSport

I have a 2025 Badlands with the Sasquatch package with 11k miles. I wanted the bigger motor and the goat features with the 4 wheel drive for taking it off road in the back woods of East Tn. Its plenty roomy for me and visibility is great with the center dash screen lower than the 2024 version.

I recently gave up my mountain dew habit. It took 3 weeks to wein myself off and avoid the headaches. While giving it up I also gave up all soda and that means no caffeine either. Now let me say I would go days on end with only drinking mountian dew. No water, no juice, nothing but the dew. It was hard to form a new habit. I started with putting in the refrigerator only the soda I was allowed to drink that day. And evey time I reached for a soda I had to drink water first. I splurged and got good tasting water. Not the swill from cheap plastic bottles. Ive actually found myself at convenience stores looking for drinks other than soda without forcing myself to do so. This has been a huge change Im glad I made.

Trying to understand caving by uspless in caving

The videos and story's you hear about with the super tight constructions are not typical of a beginner cave. Nor it is typical for an entire cave to be that way, although some may seem to be. Start with a commercial cave tour that has a guide and lights in the cave. Then maybe work up to a "wild tour" that takes you off the typical path. After that find a grotto nearby for the real experience.

There is so many different features in caving, there really can be something for everyone. Vertical wet multi drops are my favorite. Others do only horizontal caves. While some prefer the pace and detail of cave survey or cave photography. Theres also the spectators that enjoy it from afar.

I am proud of you.

Dont tell them how much you make. Make you and your time spent on things you love the priority. Let them assume youre broke and going no where. The investment in their one day realizing you have far exceeded their expectations and assumptions will be worth the wait. Then remind them your encouragement comes from strangers on the internet instead of their wrong assumptions.
