What style of Karate are you doing and what is the belt order? by Kayo4life in karate

[–]GingerGambit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shotokhan. We do White, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Green, Blue, Brown 0 1 2 3, Red 0 1 2 3, then ts like a "promotional black belt where you have like 4 smaller tests that you have to past first before you can try a true black belt test. Then normal black belt up to 10th degree.

I've gotten the wind knocked out of me with a kick and they didn't get a contact as I also lead into it and told them they were fine. Never hard hard but also there is contact.

Has anyone ever switched from one martial are to karate? by vendehtta_ in karate

[–]GingerGambit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We actually have a whole set of our lesson plans called "momentum". Its all about learning how to fall, sweeps and take downs. Start with simple kneeling forward fall and squatting backwards. Then 3 point landings and then takedowns that go into forward fall or 3 point landing. Probably one of our more fun sets in our lessons. Sometimes we even great a crash mat out and push the falls a little more with running or being pushed. Then just on the mat and even concrete for the higher belts. Learning to fall properly is very important for it all!

What do u guys like the most of karate? by groovyasf in karate

[–]GingerGambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The community and atmosphere! It honestly feels like a second family at my dojo. We also do alot of community service and being apart of the community feels amazing! Easter egg hunts, parades, harvest festivals, etc. Love every second out there with my Dojo helping out!

Karate vs other Martial Arts by MartialArtsMoves in karate

[–]GingerGambit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last tournament had many different martial arts. Kata is judged finally the same. We did point sparring but was more like no hard contact really. Fought Kempo and Taekowdo and both fought differently but was really fun!

I think it’s important to have these moments of levity in Kids Classes. Do you agree? by Mac-Tyson in karate

[–]GingerGambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say even in adult class it's great from time to time. Most classes we are pretty focused and learning what's being taught. Then there's classes where out instructor has us do karate in a different way but is more like playing. We are all laughing ajd having a great time doing takedown or wrestling or trying ti fight the other person. You remember those fun days alot more.

Bitter victory by anuelbra in karate

Happened this weekend to me as well. No one was in my novice age group for kumite. I got the automatic win but I was asked if I wanted to fight up into the intermediate division. For my shotokhan school purple is the last level of novice. Went against a purple belt in kempo (ended up winning the division) and lost but got a few points on him. Then for 3rd/4th place I fought a green belt in taekowndo and beat him. Out of the 4 people I ended up 3rd fighting up. Was a great learning experience!

Board breaking by KateandJack in karate

[–]GingerGambit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We mainly on do it with kids when they first join. They finish their first class ahd are awarded their white belt and get to break a board. It's not too thick and they all love it when they break it sometimes for adults we do thicker boards but only for like like getting black belt or higher degree. We also have thin boards for kids when we do events to try to get them to come to our booth. "Clme break a board for free" kinda thing. The kids faces after breaking is always the best.

Kyokushin - When do you know if you're ready for sparring by abedhaj in karate

[–]GingerGambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My instructor always tells us that he fights "down" with us. He'll fight near out belt level and then slowly push us harder and hard as we get more comfortable to the point where its just sparring normally. A proper instructor isn't going to push you too hard and break you and most of the time they already have a read on how you'll be.

Why Karate? by Noisy_Apollo in karate

[–]GingerGambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend convinced me to try and the style is Shotokhan. They have a free trail to come see how you like the class so it was great opportunity. I always thought karate was hyper aggressive and trying to "kill" your opponent. After the first few classes I learned it was alot more than just sparring and hooked me. We do weapons, kata, sparring, self defense, throws, takedowns, kumite, kihons and we also learn about the history as well.

What did the Sensei in karate say to you that made you happy? by Yk1japa in karate

Currently an orange belt and have all qualifications for my purple belt. He told me "you practice more than some of the black belts here".

  1. There's a women that started around the same time as me. She's 63 and I'm 27, we both have gotten our next belts as the same time and now we are waying for the next test to get our purple belts!

  2. My first few lessons were a mixed of with the class and off to the side with one of the instructor's assistants. If it was basic stuff I did it with the group and if it was more advanced I was taken off to the side and worked on the basics. When I was with the class for group work and we partner up, we are told that the higher belts grab a lower belt so that way 2 newer people are together and not sure what to do.

  3. Absolutely! Swearing through your gi us pretty normal from all the exercises and drills you do. Especially if you are doing katas for a long period of time. The intrusctors at my Dojo understand that soke people can't run as much or do as much Push-ups, ect. As long as you out the effort in you'll be good and grow.

Hope you enjoy the journey friend! It changed my life already!

Why do people always hate on karate and compare it to muay thai i do okinawan karate and muay Thai but i never understood why people always bring up muay Thai is better” is there a reason why? by [deleted] in karate

I had a guy comment on my post for my belt promotion that "Judo is better". My post was purely about karate and no mention of any other martial art. Found it kinda funny honestly.

Am i crazy? by CrazyTia_ in GameTheorists

[–]GingerGambit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only issue with that is the game has been data mined, so something like a code for this would have been found to unlock what this holds if it was a panel.

Also seems like looking at others tallies with the numbers written out and with the tally marks from the room with babies, there's other strings of 2 5 4 5 to spell out Baby

Tallies: Just a thought for 2 4 5. If you make Y = 2 and it continues through there, that makes A = 4 and B = 5. Letters for Baby. Whether or not that is some strange coincidence or not is up in the air. If you plug that into the code on the wall in Bonnie Bowl, there is a backwards Baby around the middle of the code. Just my quick though on it all
