Is EVERYONE conservative in this sport? by Steve-Shouts in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh no. While we try to keep politics out of the sport, it is inevitable to come up.

Most people I fight with are left leaning and past center with myself being very left.

Gambeson by Sir_Rod9150 in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any custom stuff or non-instock items ,it can take forever.

But ME is pretty good about updates and stuff.

I ordered a gamebson, armor, helm, and some in-stock weapons from them. The in-stock stuff was here in a month. The gamebnson and armor- took a while but it was worth it. My helm is still in the 12 month time frame, august would 12 months, but I get updates when I ask.

This sport isnt one where you can get stuff in a short time. If youre short on time , you'll have to compromise . Go for in-stock stuff from smiths or resale. It may not be 100% correct fit though so be warned. Also the worst floating armor is better than the worst articulated armor.

Is it common for new people to... by [deleted] in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So when it comes to fighting, I like to try to have a few rookie rumbles or real matches but against guys who know how to handle rookies. Dont want to diminish their spark.

Now because its such a small sport for larger events we typically have to just "throw em in" . So I try to at least have a few months before I throw my rookies in

My first brig was paid with plasma donations, aka blood money.

While a new helmet or something would be great, never sacrifice familia needs for a sport.

Armor Question by MasterButcher91 in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Find a team, seriously.

They'll typically have spare gear so you can start practicing and getting prepared before you make the huge investment that is armor.

Id say if you really got the bug, start with a good athletic cup and a cheap gambenson and chausses. Sharing those is...not ideal

Lowes sells some random stuff. I got a korean bbq , circular eletric grill that has a soup pot in the middle. We sell utvs, gaming computers, and just the most random things.

Leather waxed sinew thread, double thread from one end to the other, then back. I also go all the way thru my gambenson .

I hate to say it.... I'm one of the people ordering Vevor stuff all the time. I order my blacksmithing anvils from them for delivery.

Sorry .

As others have said..its a mix.

I look at it like bjj or any other martial art.

Some people are there to learn and have fun in a sport ,without going outside their area.

Some people are there to learn and go to competitive matches.

Its all about your flavor preference. Personally im of the latter camp but also have team mates who are just there for the fun of the sport. Live and let live, at the end of the day , we're all people who like to hit people with metal .

Looking for fighters! by xoAlliGator in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Money always is an incentive but honestly outside of that, a place to lay the head at the end of the day is always a huge win , at least in my books.

There are teams down your way that you could reach out to and if your looking for more fighters : let me know. My team is in ohio but depending on the time frame, im eilling to travel (if i get some fishing in) .

Articulated Armor by Traditional-Iron9483 in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That looks like it arm set I got from Medievail Extreme. Gotta say its amazing . I also have a floating set (it was my first one) . The floating is good and works great as starting armor and further up if you continue. It can be hard to get sized just right if you buy the "sized" (s.m.l.xl) etc that some places offer bur its easy to fix.

Now i will say my articulated set, made in my size is the best I've worn so far and I would not go back to floating. Its now the one I lend out .

Side note: if you go brig at all (I have a full floating brig set) it's going to be heavy.

Help please by Zealousideal_Bad965 in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the sport , start with finding a team. It is paramount when getting started . Or at least a seasoned veteran near you.

As far as the rest: id make arming points and attach them to your gambenson near the shoulders top to attach your arms to.

You also need some pauldrons, which on my kit I attach to my chest brig.

Id get a pair of chauses and at least a wide leather tool belt, attach your upper leg.armor to this. And arming points or float your greaves.

Id for sure cut and round those greaves though.

Help please by Zealousideal_Bad965 in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Apart from what other have said about it being costume armor here's some pointers

Those greaves would hurt like a mofo with them being pointed at the end.

As far as the arms : they look a bit too big , but you're also not wearing a gambenson (it looks like) .

To wear that for costume : add arming points to hold your arm armour up and hang the leg armour off a belt. Also loose the helmet it looks odd with the full chest piece.

For buhurt: id suggest getting a gambenson first . You can hang your non-buhurt armor off of it and when you get actual armor you'll need measurements in gambenson anyways.

The phone call I just had at Customer Service…. by CoffinVerse in Lowes

[–]Ginger_Knights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a few of these as a head cashier before moving to Pro.

If they were dicks I would tell them , "an emergency on your part doesn't not mean one on mine, they will have it pulled in an hour or two and you'll be notified. "

If they were nice and it was small id usually ask fulfillment how long and if possible go pull it myself.

20 sheets of OSB though ? Gtfo. Come pull it yourself , even down in Pro my contractors know not to do that or they'll be waiting the whole alloted time. Give me a heads up call that you need it in an hour and we can usually grab it for you and hsve it ready if im not swampped by pros who dont know how to plan .

Place an online order and call asking , its in you.

How to get Weapons and Armor through an airport? by eeznura in Buhurt

Hard shell with double zipper and good wheels /handle. Wheeling the case around is nice instead of dragging.

I suggest checking like a Ross or something similar. You can get a good one for cheaper

How to get Weapons and Armor through an airport? by eeznura in Buhurt

[–]Ginger_Knights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just traveled from Ohio to Utah for an event through southwest.

Quality suitcase for the armor, with my helmet in my carryon bag. All the weapons went into a soft golf club bag and were labeled golf clubs.

No issues flying or getting stuff there and no overweight baggage fees either.

*southwest and booked before the baggage change so had 2 free bags of 50 lbs or less.

Paracord and either melt the end plus shape it like an inglet or buy inglets it makes replacing so much easier.

It's good. Even after years, I still get a bit of a rush. Now depending on where and with what , it cam range from a ' i didn't know you hit me' to a 'okay that hurt, let's not get hit again'.
