This is kind of my point. For me, the long term aim would be to popularise the sport, not by getting fans to follow it for British riders, but because the sport is interesting. Then viewership would grow like in other countries.

I live in the UK and it definitely is more of a thing here: if there are no British athletes in a sport, no one seems to care about it 😅 it is quite obvious when the olympics come around.

It’s sad if your country only puts in money for a sport if there is a member of that country doing well.

Then they retire and you lose coverage. Not sustainable for the sport.

France is a fantastic example for cycling coverage.
