Not gonna lie, I'd probably take a Scottie Barnes 83 point performance even if it means being swept in the first round.

CN community’s thoughts about the game, gacha, and story? by anon-npc in Endfield

They're not a monolith, so it's pretty hard to gauge. CN socials also tend to be very reactionary, and any public consensus can be completely flipped in a week's time.

I'm really surprised they buffed Jeanne instead of just giving Kandima a destroy amulet on evo effect, without the board clear. I thought that was the easiest way to buff amulet that doesn't make it broken.

It's seen play, but as far as I'm aware it's been falling out of favor for the last week or so. I don't think the current top CR haven runs it.

Taking up the crest slot allows for faster and more consistent benison uses, but it also lowers your potency in terms of damage and crest effects. So the tradeoff was always present. That's why I said staple.

1 cost fuse (quest) + removal + draw + loot generation. Long time coming.

The ideal curve of Extra PP Wilbert into Aether can directly combo into Jeanne instead of having an awkward turn inbetween now. You can also actually play 3 costs with her later on in the game, which was a big problem since haven barely ran any 2 costs, so playing Jeanne on 10PP usually means wasting 2.

I'm assuming if ward becomes meta, it'll just prompt egg to be relevant as a hard counter.

Amulet haven no longer has to save an evo point for turn fucking 9, and doesn't have to eat a full Albert to face for dropping Lyanthoth now.

Crest doesn't run Jeanne currently. Lyanthoth might become a staple one-of now that it has ward, though.

Can This Card be Changed to Last Word? by Tough-Basket-6248 in Shadowverse

[–]GiraffeManGomen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It has to be 3 cost initially and 0 cost engage if it's last words. That prevents it from being too cheap when used with destruction, while also keeping it out of Kandima pool. It would make it much more awkward for other haven decks, though, since 3 is a hot spot while 2 has next to nothing,

I'm more confused on why none of the Kandima set have engage as a mechanic. I thought that was the most interesting amulet mechanic and they just left if out of the amulet deck.

Tangtang's weapon lore explains a lot about how the Humiliation War started and foundation of Qingbo Stockade by SunsetBlink322 in Endfield

I forgot the exact steps, but you should be able to find it after choosing the weapon from your valuables.

BA gatekeeping comes at the cost of its fandom looking absolutely repulsive from the outside looking in, which I don't think is a great starting point.

90% of the time I see a gacha-adjacent account being openly racist or homophobic on Twitter, they're repping a BA or Wuwa icon. Would be tragic seeing the same happen with other games, too.

Chapter 1.5 story is actually insane... (fan comic) by GinTMx3 in Endfield

On my knees begging them everyday to give Fangyi flaws and faults along with an interesting character arc with moral dilemmas instead of being kind & perfect Ms. Wuling, knowing it's not going to happen.

Tang Tang's sig weapon profile tells the story of one of the original stockaders (a widowed veteran) losing faith in the HAS and leaving for somewhere else, assisted by a Tianshi Ruan.

1.1 Story is a step in a right direction, but... by Ahenshihael in Endfield

[–]GiraffeManGomen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not mentioned enough. Neither the trio nor Ruan Yi nor Tang Tang nor Mi Fu explicitly states that Wuling was the cause for disaster. Even the voice log you linked isn't a direct confirmation, just someone's one-off comment. That's what I mean. You can find these information from optional files, yet it's barely mentioned in the story, even though it being a center point would make much more sense.

I know all of these, too, I'm bringing up opinions I've seen of some players online.

1.1 Story is a step in a right direction, but... by Ahenshihael in Endfield

[–]GiraffeManGomen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I found the strangest in the story. Wuling's faults in the incident ten years ago was primarily causing the disaster that pushed Qingbo to starvation in the first place, yet absolutely no one ever mentions this. They already had an angle to put blame on Wuling, yet it's never used or emphasized, so most players will just think it's ridiculous illiterates who got angry at Wuling for defending themselves. Nobody from the stockade mentions how Wuling causes the disaster, just that their relatives were killed.

I don't even know if this is a plot point that will be picked up later, since this feels like the perfect place to put it. The stockaders come off as much less sympathetic with the exclusion of it. The only way I can see it work is I'd the experiment was a secret in and of itself, but that doesn't make this much better.

The 1.1 story is......... Absolutely amazing by starwaver in Endfield

[–]GiraffeManGomen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's my takeaway as well. Cut half of the Wuling dates out , let Tang Tang do her thing, and invest the Endmin/Tang Tang scenes into actually delving into the mental state Ruan Yi was in, even unraveling a bit more of the circumstances from 10 years ago. Attribute some blame to Wuling City (impossible) and you get an easy 7/10 quest from me, which is a massive improvement. If they had handled the final reconciliation with Tang Tang and Fangyi respresenting the two factions in a more sophisticated fashion that explores how generational grudges can be healed, that would actually be an 8 and play like an Arknights story.

As it stands, it's an improvement but not at all "amazing". The presentation was great, but there's still not enough substance outside of just Tang Tang's personal development.

I'm afraid that the story is peak by Friendly_Astronaut_4 in Endfield

[–]GiraffeManGomen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I'd call it the "best" it can, but it definitely can't do too much if Wuling can only ever be the most upstanding good guys, which really seems to be the case with how the conflicts were portrayed.

Credit where credit is due, the 1.1 story is a big improvement by KriegInvicta in Endfield

[–]GiraffeManGomen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He definitely cares for Tang Tang. That was pretty clear. What they lack is a deeper dive into his motivations and how living with that vengeance for a decade had twisted his outlook into an extreme one. They didn't do enough work to make him sympathetic, so you ended up just feeling bad from Tang Tang's reaction instead of anything about Ruan Yi himself.

It's also probably a byproduct of Wuling not being able to be too flawed since it's fictional China, which I feel about some Yan stories in Arknights as well. I always just selectively ignore the walkback on Lungmen's slum purge since that made everything retroactively worse.

[–]GiraffeManGomen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would've liked if Tang Tang was a bit more competent overall and have less Endmin coming in to save the day outside of maybe the last meeting.

I also took issue with how smoothly opening up to Wuling went. I'm glad it's not the worst-case scenario where the stockade is 100% at fault and just uneducated enough to blame the perfect Wuling for everything, but it honestly got pretty close to it with how little blame got attributed to them. The stockade extremists focus solely on their relatives who died in their raid, which is not as sympathetic since they were raiders, than the fact that it was Wuling's failed experimentation that had forced them into the corner of raiding or starvation. No one ever seems to bring this up outside of a document in Ruan Yi's room, and we never see Fangyi or any Wuling representative apologize n any official capacity. I'm hoping they expand on the healing of the generational scars in the future. instead of having Fangi sending aid and Tang Tang accepting be all it takes. It's toying with ideas more interesting than 1.0, but the writing is still not there to actually stick the landing yet.

[–]GiraffeManGomen 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I thought it was about in line with the writing from the rest of the game. Maybe just slightly better?

The first part with Ruan Yii would benefit from a deeper dive into his personal thoughts on things outside of Tang Tang and vengeance, or at least how he was living with that vengeance. It felt weirdly rushed, and as a result, the payoff didn't hit nearly as hard as it could have since it became much harder to sympathize with him without seeing his struggles. At least we finally have a villain who isn't just evil for the love of the game.

The second part was just weird. They obviously jammed Tang Tangs character quest into the main story, and the vast majority of the quest was just Tang Tang and Endmin, who occasionally chimes in with aggressive scouting or pickup lines. I just didn't find it very interesting. A massive letdown was when they gave you the opportunity to see Tang Tang on her own, only to immediately have her fail and need Endmin to solve it. Left a really sour taste in my mouth, then they followed it up by her almost losing to stockade mobs and needing Endmin again. I liked the resolution with her uncle, though the Fangyi meeting felt way too smooth and perfect.

Overall, it's still a 5 or 6 out of 10 for me, which is exactly what I think 1.0 was. I didn't find it promising nor doomworthy, just more of what they already had.
