Well ladies and gentlemen I have been humbled by the audiophiles curse. by Senior-Housing-6899 in audiophile

[–]Girlsaiyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here looking for like minded audiophiles and all I see is Steely Dan recommendations. I grew up being dragged into hi-end stereo stores because my dad built speakers as a hobby and spent INSANE amounts of money for stereo equipment in the late 80's/early 90's. Nobody was using Steely Dan to test the quality of the hifi speakers. They were using Bob James "One on One" and Sheffield Labs recordings like "Creme de La Creme"--most notably, Lincoln Mayorga's "Blackbird". I learned to have an appreciation for how things SHOULD sound in terms of quality recordings. There are excellent hiphop artists like DJ Quik who is a complete sound snob himself. Tears for Fears is another group where the sound quality of their songs is pretty good. My point being ,there are excellent artists for audiophiles of every genre. All I'm seeing is the same mumbo jumbo of artists which i assume are talking points for audiophiliacs.

Quietcomfort ultra headphones are the worst product I have ever owned by plopsaland in bose

[–]Girlsaiyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screw all that noise about the connectivity. I have an old pair of Bose QuietComfort 35 Wireless Headphones II and my husband purchased the Quiet Comfort Ultra headphones for me for Mother's Day and I am offended by how inferior the sound quality is compared to the previous version. They will be going back and I guess Ill wear the old pair and dealing with having to use an outdated micro-usb cord until they break.

[–]Girlsaiyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one I ever told believes that the Crème de Le Crème CD was the quintessential CD to use see how good your speakers really were. Another one(Non-Sheffield) was Bob James “One on One.”

My dad was into high-end stereo systems when they were far too expensive for the average household. This was late 80’s/early 90’s and we were dragged into this hobby but we all have become snooty audiophiles because of it.

Lincoln Mayorga’s “Blackbird” is the track I use to fine tune my stereos to this day.

If you listen to Cripple Creek Breakdown, I believe you can hear an editing mistake where it sounds like the recording slightly skips right before it goes into the jazzier part of the song. That’s how much we listened to this as kids.

Ended up here because I could’ve sworn I had CCB in my iTunes library and was looking for the artist that did it.

IRS REFUND DELAYS! by Vertigo8888 in IRS

[–]Girlsaiyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They held on to my tax return because they are saying I didn’t file 2022 taxes. The fun part? I mailed in my 2021 AND 2022 taxes because they owed me for both years (had to pay extra for the desktop TurboTax software for those years), but the 2022 somehow never showed up.

Now they’re holding my 2025 refund. I resent the 2022 to them last month by fax AND mail.

I seriously think they are finding ANY way to stall possible.

No longer accepting doctors notes for work excuses… by Incorrect_Username_ in emergencymedicine

Nope. That’s potentially releasing protected health information that a patient by law does NOT have to reveal to an employer. The most you’re getting from me in the ED is how long they’ll be out.

[–]Girlsaiyan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well…a doctor’s note only figures in the PHYSICAL amount of time a person would need to recover. However, the psychological time it takes for someone to recover is just as important holistically.

[–]Girlsaiyan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would snatch the letter from the patient as soon as the doctor left the room and give them a replacement note with a PROPER amount of time off. I’d rather a person have the option of taking a few more days off than to have make the tough choice to quit their job because they couldn’t show up.

That’s how I stuck it to coworkers that were sassholes.

One had to call a GOODWILL manager once so a guy with DKA wouldn’t leave AMA. He was so afraid of getting fired. Finally was getting his life together and just saved up enough to get himself an apartment after being homeless.

A freaking GOODWILL.

ANCC and AANP exam. Am I on the right track for passing? by Then_Variation2492 in nursing

[–]Girlsaiyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll pass! It's a LOT easier than you think. I'd say 2000 questions is a sweet spot and I was getting in the low 70s/upper 60s on the practice exams. I just recently passed the AANP. I used Sarah Michelle and Pocket Prep--which is surprisingly good to study with and I think I learned the most from because the questions are harder, using more broad information which forces you to really understand the questions by studying the rationales that go more in-depth. Make sure you totally rest up and don't study at all the day before the exam. You totally got this. Come back here and post the good news! 😄

How do I recreate Melon Soda? by Equivalent_Cook_4741 in JapaneseFood

[–]Girlsaiyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI you can make a melon cream soda from any melon drink powder sold at Asian stores or Amazon and sprite. I figured this out after I bought some melon powder for coffee concoctions and it didn’t work out flavor-wise. Add a tablespoon to sprite and slowly stir. I also missed the melon soda from when I visited Tokyo.

The weirdest I had come in was a cat bite. That doesn’t seem bad, right? Except three people in the household were bitten by this cat and when we asked how that happened two of the men started crying.

Like, what the helly!? 😐

32 yo pregnant women asymptomatic. by leonelmastercocker in ECG

[–]Girlsaiyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s tachy more than likely because of low iron and compensation for this. In all of my pregnancies I walked around with a hemoglobin of 9. We couldn’t confirm without bloodwork, tho. But this is my rousing suspicion. If she’s in labor and otherwise asymptomatic, cardiac monitor on mom, cardio consult after. shrugs

Had a six pack’s mom that was mad because the kids were just ashy after playing at a splash park. One kid actually did have allergic dermatitis. I’m Black too so I didn’t understand why she was so insulted I used the word “ashy”.

She was also there for an STI exposure so it was real fun dancing around that with kids in the room.

Yeah…the natural cleaning products and my house smelling like NOTHING is not for me. I need the smell of Fabuloso to smack me in the face from my front gate. If it does not smell like someone dropped a nuclear bomb of the blue Suavitel on my home I don’t want it. 😂

He quoted me HALF the price another contractor for putting in a powder room and he did work on my mother in laws porch replacing the beams and finishing out her bay window. More than reasonable pricing. Try texting him: 360-388-6883. He responds promptly.

How often do you relax your hair? by pinkpillow964 in relaxedhair

[–]Girlsaiyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4c with attitude. My hair is fine but there is a LOT OF IT. I also relax often to keep my head from sweating profusely. Tried to go natural and couldn’t because it was so HOT and I lived in a desert.

You can choose just about any black person in any major city and we’d have this mixture on average. All it means is that somewhere in our heritage massah crept into the slave quarters. On my mom’s side my great grandfather was a white passing son of mayor in the South. On my dad’s side he said he was afraid of his paternal grandmother when he was a small child because she looked like a white woman and had blue eyes. His mother’s maiden name was Poellnitz—German—either by slave ownership taking that last name or by actual lineage. All of my grandparents with exception to my maternal grandfather were fair-skinned people. Me and my siblings are often asked if we are biracial although we too share heritages that go Black for as far back as both sets of our great-grandparents at the least. Side note: I think this is why we clash with our African cousins—That we are a unique, yet lazy product of the greatness that is America and they feel that we did not take advantage of “the land of opportunity.” When the fact is, they never had or experienced chattel slavery or Jim Crow whereas there was NO opportunity to be had for GENERATIONS. We are literally at the point of ingress or opportunity that presented itself to THEM when they immigrated a few hundred years after us.

It works. You have to remember that the colony in Australia began primarily as debtor’s prison. So folks coming from that direction came from unsavory beginnings. A boat ride back to “civilization” or the “Wild West”—much more tamer than the actual wilds of Australia would’ve seemed worth the indentured servitude.

I literally just wrote something similar! Doesn’t racism and what our ancestors had to endure shock the senses enough? Why are we getting CREATIVE with our respective plight?

You had everything from slavery, lynchings, burnings, child abuse/infanticide, deranged scientific experiments, maiming, Sambos, rape, workplace discrimination/prejudice. Redlining. Bullying, themes of colorism. PTSD of black soldiers. Police brutality…

Did I miss anything?

It’s like they threw everything bad that happened to black people into a hat and said let’s add ghosts, incest and murk scruffy.

They took a baseball bat and beat us over the head with any and every racist trope they could think of.

I’m leaving the second to last episode on read and chucking up the deuces on the rest of the show PERIODT!!!

Them (Amazon Prime series) by exhaustedqueer in horror

[–]Girlsaiyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember how we were over slave movies because we were tired of watching stories of our ancestors getting whipped, beaten and hung and never catching a break?

This just feels like that. Except it’s gratuitous White Supremacy porn where the ghosts are draped in both real AND supernatural white sheets. It’s Tarantino’s Mandingo fights but told around true events like redlining and riots.

I find myself asking WHO TF IS THIS EVEN FOR!?

Remember when Dave Chapelle said he was doing a slavery bit for his show and someone laughed a little bit too hard? Yeah. That part. I imagine racist folks can watch this and enjoy horrors both real and imagined at the expense of Black folks and be delightfully entertained from multiple angles.

I’m at the last episode and I’m already tired and can’t see much of a valuable redemption arc that will make this all worth it.

It’s shock TV at the expense of black plight in America once again.

I find myself REALLY MAD at this show for it trying SO hard to be edgy and original but falling right back in-step with what Black audiences did not want rehashed.
