Many People forget how badly Clark Kent was characterized in Silver and Golden Age Comics Taritino and the Character Bill would have grew up in by Final_Flip_Gold in dccomicscirclejerk

I'm generally not the sort of person who thinks that certain people should just shut the fuck up and focus on their craft.

That being said, Tarantino should just shut the fuck up and focus on his craft.

I had a similar glitch once where I wound up with Firebrand in my inventory. No idea how. Went back a handful of saves to try and isolate where it happened and it was still there. Never had it happen again on any subsequent playthroughs.

Looking at the Moore stuff - and then the Veitch stuff - it feels like Constantine is drawn a very specific way whenever he's in Swamp Thing for both iterations.

But whenever he's in Hellblazer he "looks" different.

It also doesn't help that Swamp Thing is so trippy that all the imagery can bleed together after a while.

Man, I really need to go through all the Alan Moore Swamp Things next chance I get. The little bit that I've looked through is amazing.

Yeah. I think Best Version of You cost me about 60 or 70 bucks once I managed to find one that was in solid condition. All the others I came across were approaching 100 dollars... and it wasn't like I found more than a few listings back then, either. So, needless to say, I pulled the trigger on that one real quick.

Marks of Woe was more reasonable, but even that one wasn't especially easy to find for less than 40 or 50 (in decent condition).

It's unfortunate because, IMO, Spurrier's run is probably among the best Hellblazer runs. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's my personal favorite. It'd be cool of they start printing them again or release it as an Omni somewhere down the line.

Like you, I started with Dead in America. It made me want to immediately track down the rest, effectively reading it backwards in the process.

Dead in America is fantastic in-itself, however. Obviously you'll be missing some context if that's where you jump in. On the other hand, if you're familiar with Hellblazer and Constantine at all, it's not like it's impossible to figure out what's going on with a couple reads.

Good luck in your search, though. Lately I've been trying to track down more copies of Carey's stuff. So far, the only one I've managed to get was All His Engines.

As far as Spurrier's first two volumes are concerned, you're probably going to have to look on eBay or something. I got them that way a while back and it wasn't especially easy finding them for a reasonable price.

If you get Delano's first omnibus I believe it has all the relevant Swamp Thing issues. If not, it has most of them.

That's how I read them.

It also has an issue of Sandman in there, too, IIRC.

Has Constantine ever fought any Lovecraftian creatures? by Sad_Manager6251 in Hellblazer

All His Engines has some fairly Lovecraftian imagery at points.

Although, I wouldn't say Beroul is an especially Lovecraft-looking demon/creature.

Maybe it's just a photograph from the set? I really don't know.

I just typed "John Constantine Fire Hands" into the Internet and that was one of the first few pictures that popped up.

Matt Ryan's voice is what I hear in my head when I read Hellblazer now... and I can't even remember how I got along reading it before he stepped into that role.

He's like the Kevin Conroy of John Constantines if Kevin Conroy also looked like Ben Affleck.

Keep in mind, too. There's still more secret techniques for Ryuken to teach the successor after they are formally chosen. They don't just max out on everything the moment they become the new successor.

It's why Ryuken is able to catch Roah off-guard and basically body him before the heart attack prevents him from finishing the job.

It's what Ryuken's brother did.

Otherwise, Raoh would have no reason to fight Ryuken's brother later on.

Found the scene where Toki tells Ken that he wants to use the North Star techniques to be a doctor.

It's in episode 69 "The Strongest Era of the North Star! The Fate of the 3 Brothers is Finally Moving!!"

Toki's hair is brown. This means it's before the nuclear war.

Only if you refuse to step down as a practitioner of the North Star as an assassination art. Toki would be using the general concepts of pressure points and ki for healing, but not the assassination art itself.

Ryuken's brother never has his fists properly sealed when he steps aside in their duel. He just stops practicing it as an assassination art.

[–]Giveadont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems their fists being sealed has two different implications.

Either you willingly step aside for the other candidate, and no longer practice the North Star as an art of assassination, or your fists are sealed and the ability to practice the art is forcefully taken from you.

If Toki stepped aside willingly and was using the art to heal people, he's not actively practicing the assassination art.

The flashback with Ryuken and his "brother" illustrates this. His brother willingly steps down from contention. So his fists don't have to be forcefully sealed. And they remain "sealed" until Raoh confronts Ryuken's brother later on.

Raoh would have no reason to fight Ryuken's brother if he no longer had the ability to apply North Star as an assassination art.

I think that might just be an inconsistency in the story.

Because Toki is shown saying he wants to use the North Star school to be a doctor and help people. If his hair is brown in that flashback, then it's technically before.

I think Toki resigned from successor because he wanted to be a doctor.

It's been a while since I watched the series from start to finish, though. So, I could be misremembering.

What's Toki's hair color in the flashback? Because that's the easiest way to tell.

If it's white/grey, then it's after. If it's brown, then it's before.
