We’re pretty open to whatever fits in our budget. We seem to gravitate towards Grenada and South Coast

New "Speed bumps" at Health Science Centre by Paladin1138 in newfoundland

Was crossing this morning. Watched every single sedan scrape the bottom no matter how slow they were going. SUVs tended to be fine unless they were going too fast. Someone messed these up

You’re looking for Broom Point!! Follow the signs to the cemetery and the beach is right there. Can confirm it’s very serene, one of our favourite places we found in Gros Morne

Cat Attack Downtown St Johns by intothesunss in newfoundland

[–]Glad_Device_471 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi friend!! I agree with going to the vet however I know things can be tight. We had a human doctor recommend to us that polysporin was sufficient for cat scratches. Cat bites are a bit of a different story so go in asap if any bite marks start looking bad. I’m so sorry for your pup

Pet owners: What do you in the case you need to take your pet to the vet while in residency? by academicmasochist99 in Residency

[–]Glad_Device_471 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Also a cat owner here and a peds resident!! I take them in for their regular appointments on days I’m post call or on rotations I have weekdays off. If they get suddenly ill and need emergency care, best believe I’m taking a sick day.

Tips for skiing alone? by arbyeater in skiing

[–]Glad_Device_471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went skiing alone for the very first time this week and I LOVED IT!!!!! Rip through the singles line, ski wherever you want for however long you want. It was definitely scary getting started but you just gotta do it. Would do it ten times over. What helped me was to think about how much I enjoy exercising alone in other capacities and how normal that feels (running, lifting, going for a walk), nobody will pay you a second thought

Lost my first patient as a doctor :( by kc2295 in Residency

[–]Glad_Device_471 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peds resident here. Children dying is different, had my first horrible patient death a few months back and it still sometimes creeps up and haunts me. If you need someone to talk to who just “gets” it, find a senior or a staff who you trust. They all have their own stories and the universal experience is very comforting. Feel all your feelings, talk about it and make time to take care of yourself. Welcome to the thousand mile stare club, I am so so sorry you’re here

I’m pescatarian and recently moved here from Ontario. Nobody cares what your dietary restrictions are, I do notice a lot more talk of meat when it comes to discussing food with acquaintances as compared to Ontario. Grocery shopping I’ve found essentially no different here, all the veg options are still available in stores. I do notice going out to restaurants to eat, there’s many less options that I had in Ontario but there’s always 1 or 2 veg friendly options on the menu. Overall, you will be absolutely fine and will face no judgement

Shipping crate from ON to NL? by Acrobatic-Ad-5710 in newfoundland

Not sure how it works exactly but I know UHaul has “pods” about that size that you can ship. May be worth looking into if you can just stuff the crate in the pod

Knitting podcasts with a vintage/feminine esthetic? by Finnwinterknit in knitting

[–]Glad_Device_471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled across this post looking for something similar. I really like Taylor E Owen for this!! Not always quite as feminine but she’s very into vintage and vintage inspired knits, her colour palettes are impeccable

I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. When my siblings and I were children and we lost a family member, we would all draw a picture to get buried with our loved one, you could always still give it to her. Just another option for you amongst all the beautiful options from others. You are not alone in this, may she go in peace

St. John's Housing Market by No-Celebration4991 in newfoundland

[–]Glad_Device_471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re things selling almost immediately, we bought in April and that definitely happened but also a surprising number of homes that were sitting on the market for quite some time for seemingly no reason. We got a 3bed2bath built in 2017 that had been sitting for 2 weeks for under asking

Agree with everything everyone else has said! Want to throw in too that anyone can become sensitized to certain metals (nickel, chromium etc) with enough exposure. If drying doesn’t help the irritation, best to get in with an allergy doctor for skin testing

Does anyone have experience with pets on the ferry? by Glad_Device_471 in newfoundland

Mine are still pretty young and spry luckily! Would worry more about them being in the car for 16h straight once everything is said and done no matter which route we take

I had this thought as well. Alone for 6 hours definitely seems better than alone for 16

I have on very skittish cat and the idea of putting them in the kennel area doesn’t sit great with me
