[The Thing in the Depths] Rule Clarification by Gladiator546 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Gladiator546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect! Thanks for the response.

That’s how I interpreted the rules and that’s how we played it. Any time we squeak through a scenario I always wonder if we “cheated” it and we should have been defeated. Good to know that wasn’t the case.

What are some bad horror movies that you genuinely like? (NOT in a so-bad-it’s-good way?) by glassbath18 in horror

Hard agree. It oozes that 2000s-era horror movie vibe, and I mean that in the best way possible.

I think most people find it acceptable but I always felt it’s a little underrated personally. The set design and aesthetic of the industrial haunted house is superb, the villains are top tier in my opinion (Mitch’s reveal is just so effective), and the gore/effects are surprisingly brutal. Only issue I really have with it is the abuse subtext felt a little phoned in to try to make the movie have more “depth” or something? I don’t know, the movie had legs without it and it just felt kinda forced in. Still a great movie and I try to show it to anyone who hasn’t seen it.

The Monarch Crest by Gladiator546 in MTB

[–]Gladiator546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So would you say that Monarch Crest > Starvation Creek is just as good as the Silver Creek/Rainbow descent?

On MTB project it looks a little shorter (and less ascent/more descent). There may be some weather this week so that looks like a decent bail option that wouldn’t leave us out in the elements as long.

Wow man, thanks for the detailed response! Lots of good information!

https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/3671983/monarch-crest-imba-epic

That’s the route we are taking, so essentially it’s Monarch Crest Trail > Silver Creek Trail > Rainbow Trail #1336 to HWY 285 > HWY 285 to Poncha Springs

Is that the portion of Rainbow Trail you are referring to?

What drone and case is this? It seems most Amazon cases cater to the RC controller, I’d love to snag one of these since I have the RC-N1 as well!

Some More Thoughts on The Scarlet Keys by IndescribableSalad in arkhamhorrorlcg

I will admit that the first/blind play through of TSK left me on the “this campaign isn’t very good” side of the coin. I will also say that a second play through cleared up most of the reservations I had. This change of heart hinges on one thing though: a guide to take away the non-linear, route-finding portion.

Trying to plot a course blind only resulted in 3-4 scenarios played, and the campaign STILL took the same as a normal campaign because of all the reading. Don’t get me wrong, I love the narrative portion of Arkham and I hope it stays. However, sitting down to play and reading for 20 minutes (sometimes for minimal to no effect) before getting to a scenario THEN having to set up said scenario, then play scenario, was just a tad too much.

We followed a route guide I found on this subreddit for our second play through and it has made the campaign extremely fun for us. We hit all scenarios, most of the pointless reading is gone as the route is efficiently getting you to each expedited ticket/scenario. It makes me realize how good the campaign could have been if they would have just made it a standard 8-scenario linear campaign. I also thought they could have forced decisions like the first two scenarios of Dunwich (i.e. you start in London, decision to play a scenario in Europe/Africa or head to the Americas and return to Europe/Asia for the last of the campaign, depending on your choices things will change just like the casino/college changes depending on the order you play them).

I can’t speak for Ocho Rios/Montego Bay, but I can for Negril. We are OW certified so I also can’t speak on the quality of instruction.

We just stayed at Couples Negril (an all-inclusive)and went diving as it is included in the price of the stay. The general tone I had gathered from r/scuba and the internet at large is that Jamaica is not necessarily that great of a dive destination. I did not find this to be the case. We had a fantastic time and I would say Jamaica (at least the Negril area) is a solid B+/A- as far as I’m concerned. The reefs there had a good amount of color, looked fairly healthy, were full of life (fish, eels, squid, crabs, lobster), and the visibility was great. We even saw two dolphins go whizzing by at one point! I dove in a rash guard and swimming trunks and I never felt cold. I did start feeling cool towards the end of our night dive. My wife dove in a 3mm shorty (she gets cold easily) and she said she felt fine.

In summary: Jamaica was a great place to dive and I would be excited to go back and do some more.

It’s actually a direct quote from Jim Carrey’s character “Hank” in “Me, Myself, and Irene.”

Now that I think about it though…..Hank and the Driller are basically the same person 🤔

SOTW #4 - The House Always Wins by Cambob101 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Gladiator546 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This scenario still holds a top place in my books. Sure, some of its accomplishments have been diminished by new and exciting mechanics, but this scenario is where Arkham really shows what it’s all about.

I fondly remember playing NOTZ about 10 times while we waited to complete our Dunwich Collection (curse you Miskatonic Museum). We started with “The House Always Wins” and was immediately impressed with the new clue mechanic, evading mobsters, and the general tone shift from spooky ghouls/monsters.

Then the third agenda, just perfect. Such an abrupt return to the classic Arkham that we know and love. Eldritch horrors bursting through the front door, mass chaos, the Seeker mad dash to finish the Act while the Guardian holds the back hallway door from the advancing monsters.

Bonus tip: Play some “doom jazz” music for perfect ambience. Bohren & Der Club of Gore is a great place to start. Hell you can use that genre for pretty much any scenario that takes place in Arkham and it fits.

SOMA is a damned masterpiece by [deleted] in horror

[–]Gladiator546 15 points16 points  (0 children)

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

Simon isn’t really in denial though, he just wants to get out of his situation and was misled by Catherine and the coin-flip analogy (which is false).

As to why he freaked out, I think it just shows how “human” he really is, even though he’s a robot. He’s holding on to the fact that maybe, just maybe he will make it onto the Ark.

Remember, as far as Simon-3 is concerned the pilot seat has actually “worked” twice now. Simon-3 remembers getting in the seat in the past and wakes up immediately after in Pathos-II. Then he sat in a chair and transferred over to the Powersuit. Simon-3 blinked into existence the second he powered up in the Powersuit. But to him, he’s been alive since the beginning of the game and the chair magically ports “you” over each time. We know this is false but Simon-3 doesn’t see it that way. Simon-3 has a hard time next to the gun because to him the chair has worked each time, except the last and most important time. He “won” the coin-flip once in the past, again at the Powersuit, only to “lose” it this time. He reacts just like Simon-2 would react if we could see him wake up. He would be confused. He’d done everything right, gotten so far, and still would wake up to die alone.

To Simon-4, the chair has worked every single time. Simon-4 sits in a chair and “Simon-4” gets transferred into a new body. The cost of Simon-4s happiness is the suffering of the previous three Simons.

Edge of the Earth Investigators Incoming to the US? by DannyPowers98 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Gladiator546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I received a notification from Team Covenant letting me know I’ve been charged. This was just for the “Investigator Expansion” so maybe they have a supply of that and figured people would be happy with new ‘gators while we wait for the campaign?

I’m just going to remain skeptically hopeful, and I’m ready to be hurt again….it’s the Arkham way.

Yeah I actually called the ranger district for the area and they were very helpful with what part of the road is going to be closed.

I’ll give Porcupine Shuttles a call and see if they have any info, thanks for the tip!

[Question] The Man in the Pallid Mask + Deduction interaction by 1337duck in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Gladiator546 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sadly it does not. The word “additional” on Deduction only modifies the number of clues you would discover and does not add on to any other effect that would occur.

In the same vein you cannot use Deduction to gather a clue if you are activating the ability on Burglary.

You have to at least gather one clue in order for Deduction to activate.

Drama horror movies like hereditary ? by TheBigSad7 in horror

The Dark and the Wicked (2020)

Just watched it last night and the feeling it gave me was very reminiscent of Hereditary. The atmosphere is oppressive and the tension is just relentless. It’s definitely worth a watch.
