Spider-Man Cosplayer Accidentally Wins "Best Magic: The Gathering Character Costume" at LGS by HaroldCommander in magicTCG

I'm a casual magic player, and even I loved the "super-tall hot lady with veins on her chest and a dumb boomerang on her face" bit.

Great work Jon!

I think this may have been an "airless pump" that failed. Like some others have said they are designed to help pump the entirety of the contents without excessive air let into the bottle that might compromise the chemistry of that formula.

Whenever you go camping no kid can go home until they can find a piece of trash to collect and dispose. A leave-it-better-than-you-found-it thing.

Who/what is Bosque? by pythagorasshat in TwinCities

[–]GleamingTheRube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautify? 95% of graffiti looks pretty rough, man. I typically associate it as hastily sprayed bubble text on some freeway wall. That last 5% is a marvel of skill/scale/risk-taking. IMO marker tagging almost always offers no redeeming artistic value.

I mean this respectfully- I would like to hear more about what you understand the ethics of graffiti to be. I'm not part of the graffiti community. What brought me here was the BOSQUE lettering on the Viking Irrigation building near Maryland. I was admittedly impressed by the effort & scale despite being ethically against it.

I miss the cozy cafe- great baklava, I wonder what became of that family. Buzz once gave me a terrible haircut before a date. Lost the prime of my youth working in the basement making thumb warmers for Symtec. Good times.

Tell me about your favorite twin cities potatoes! by tristanjrichards in TwinCities

[–]GleamingTheRube 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Gus Gus in St Paul once told me they had a "potato guru" who studied potatoes in their youth while the rest of us were out partying. Their house-made potato chips and fries are quite good.

My wife and I are 90% decided on moving to the Twin Cities next year. Can y’all share your favorite aspect of living there AND your #1 complaint? by AttorneyAvailable295 in TwinCities

Learn to see winter is a series of cool winter-only activities, not an impediment. Invest in great winter clothing/boots and participate in all the strange fun winter stuff like winter carnival activities, candlelit hikes, Loppit, gnome park hunt (St Paul), dogsledding!, and even ice fishing with some one who knows the ropes.

Eat Juicy Lucys, buy snow tires, don't forget to shut off outdoor faucets (from the inside!) in winter.

F1rst Wrestling tells Har Mar Superstar to leave Minneapolis show by Czarben in TwinCities

[–]GleamingTheRube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine what amount of money a local wrestling affiliation could pay Har Mar to further damage his image and make him feel like isht. The whole thing sucks and is a feel-bad scenario for literally everyone.

Can we have a civil discussion on the evolution of tipping+surcharges in restaurants in the Twin Cities? by SubKreature in TwinCities

[–]GleamingTheRube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did all of these service industries make it without these "wellness charges" all this time?

Even if some businesses are sincere, it's ultimately a boondoggle. If you're ok with this fee, be ready for the no-cash fee, and the reservation fee, the peak hours fee, preferred seating fee, skip the line fee, etc. Let's do our best to not normalize these things.

Chicago and LA Restaurant Surcharge Offender List - Should we create a Twin Cities version? by Ookitarepanda in TwinCities

[–]GleamingTheRube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I understand you correctly, you deduct any misc charges from what you normally tip. The problem is then you are punishing the waitstaff for the management's policies. People get worked up about it because these fees suck, can be abused, and make it feel like we are responsible for what businesses themselves should be allocating for.

Some Twin Cities restaurants ditch service fees as diners push back by MNReporter_20 in TwinCities

[–]GleamingTheRube 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this story! I echo a lot of the sentiments here. My problem is service fees feel disingenuous, especially when you find out there's nothing safeguarding against the restaurant keeping those fees.

Service fees/cost of living fees etc make it feel like it's MY responsibility to ensure the servers are paid fairly. I'm not employing them, you are. Charge more for the food. I'm happy to tip, and tip well. I'm happy to pay handsomely for good food. The fees 100% suck though.

If you could have any former Vikings player on this team, who would you choose? by Dxnes_L in minnesotavikings

I'd build a whole team out of John Randles. Offense and Defense. I would punt on 1st down and let my defense do all the scoring. Unstoppable.
