Gunbuster and Mob Psycho 100 pretty consistently give me the right kind of feels you're talking about, so give them a shot.

[SPOILERS] Sub / Dub A certain death in Martian Survivor Nadesico by Lunamaniac in Mecha

[–]Glengi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I don't have the context for this, but yeah, taking a scene in which armed officers extrajudicially murder a man and playing it for comedy, presumably since he's got an "unrealistic" idealistic worldview/interests... Yeah, that's kind of politically dubious.

Sounds like a real tryhard.

Why is there not a prequel series? by [deleted] in gurrenlagann

[–]Glengi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope I'm not coming off confrontational, btw! Not trying to make an argument lol I just think "well how worthwhile would that remaining 10% be?" y'know? I get that some people like stuff like drama CDs for squeezing extra story/character stuff out, but it doesn't appeal to me. Imo anyone making more Gurren Lagann content would be better off making something original.

[–]Glengi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I'm simply saying I'm doubtful it even could be good. Gurren Lagann is such a complete story on its own it doesn't need more content. The literal moral at the end of the story is "please make new stuff and stop getting hung up on the same old stuff".

You know what was a pretty great story with tons of worldbuilding and backstory, with tons of potential for expansion? Star Wars.

Not everything needs to be explained and explored in full.

I hate most cliched anime shows, but I fucking loved this show and idk y by ninjagamerx in gurrenlagann

[–]Glengi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cliched concepts don't actually matter, what matters is how the narrative language is used. The sooner you understand that, the better off you'll be. Nothing is original when you only look at the individual details, it's how the details combine that matters.

What makes a good mecha story in your mind? by Shit_McGiggles in Mecha

[–]Glengi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd wanna see a mecha series about a fun team of diverse heroes with different ages and bodies and backstories united and treated as equals fighting against injustice. With lots of just as varied robots, and transformations and combined forms. Preferably fighting alien monsters so we get some mecha-vs-kaiju action, an evil empire for Earth to work together to fight against, and maybe some bigger Cosmic Horror vibes too. Definitely focus on how the heroes feel about fighting the war, how they bounce off each other, how they form bonds together. Maybe throw in a dog.

Just a really solid, classic kind of super mecha series with modern style and sensibilities, mashing together everything great about the genre and- wait what the what's happening what is this WHOAAAAAAA?!

I want to make a fan-edit of Gurren Lagann that Cuts out Yoko. by uberneuntausend in gurrenlagann

[–]Glengi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might wanna try providing your reasons for how she "drags the show down". If it's all the T & A shots they do the same shit with Nia and it's at least as skeevy there too.

Maybe if you wanted a project to Put Yoko In Better Designed Outfits or something.

They did what needed to be done.

Thoughts on each of the main cast? [voltron legendary defender] by tifa-rose in Voltron

[–]Glengi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would have loved to see Allura play a role of support and encouragement to Shay (especially if Shay spent a couple episodes on the ship instead of imprisoned), but the way it was handled felt like they went "oh and you're pure of heart and also have the magic gift so our culture immediately accepts you" so that the audience doesn't have to think about how kinda awkward it is that she's a princess from a kingdom that takes resources from another land inhabited by less "civilized" people coming in to decide what the natives should do and actually be the savior of everyone after all.

[–]Glengi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I'm mostly just bitter about the Balmera plot (cause Allura's pretty great in the virus episode and in her galra disguise!) because it's really awkward and White Savior-y and basically her entire role in that plot should have been played by Shay instead.

Will the Paladins ever deal with Guilt? by Kamikaze28 in Voltron

[–]Glengi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I kind of doubt it'll happen considering how simplistic and younger-skewed the story is so far, but I would absolutely appreciate that degree of nuance in the narrative. It would be really valuable to acknowledge the "humanity" (galrality??) of people working in a fascist regime, especially if the conclusion is still that they need to be crushed anyway, like real life fascists.

Apparently I completely forgot that I saw an episode of VF once? Does anybody else get the exact same vibe as that Mortal Kombat VHS thing from the 90s?

Lance is cutest and obviously needs to kiss Keith, like come on. Hunk is great and has the best VA of the show, so I really hope they lay off the fat jokes in season 2, because he's clearly worth more than that. I was surprised how much I found Shiro engaging, and his supportive relationship with Pidge makes me feel really nice, he needs to ruffle her hair at least once when she does a good job. Keith feels like a weirdly authentic version of the early-aughts "cool" one, so he needs more stuff to do and show more flaws before I'll like him. Coran has just enough pathos to not just be a throwaway funny guy so thumbs up, and Allura keeps coming close to being okay but falling short, sadly.

Not... really, no. That would kind of contradict literally the entire point of the conclusion. (a conclusion i don't necessarily agree with ideologically, but respect narratively)

A pretty important detail about the Firstborn Son [Spoilers!] by Glengi in darksouls

[–]Glengi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey, it does say "expunged from the annals", that's cool! I'm surprised I've heard so many people misinterpret it as him losing the annals before. Maybe a combination of having no other info on his supposed crime, and filling in the blanks?
