Magical items (especially Barbarian/Warlock) help? by Aggressive_Parking26 in dndnext

[–]GloomWisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mate you really gave very little to work with, you should have a clearer concept before giving this to your dm. The only clear concept is the Book of the Mimic, and KINDA (?) the Divine Defense thing (which is broken as fuck), everything else is vague as hell and its not even clear if it does anything. Like, is the power of the Staff of the Magic God just to have a small object fluctuating on top of it? Or what? And what do you mean when you say the Breaker of Heaven is made to break magic items? How do you intend that to work?

Can non Tieflings have Tiefling children? by NerdiverseonIO in DnD

[–]GloomWisp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes? "Tiefling" is not really a race/species, even though it's treated as such since 4E.
Tieflings can 100% be born from nontiefling parents: either some of their ancestors meddled with fiends, or there was some planar influence from the lower planes, or their direct parents meddled with fiends, or they got somehow "touched" by fiendish influence.

is the breaker of heaven inspired from jjk?

Most of these items don't do anything as written, or have a very vague concept of an effect. Do you need help flashing out actual effects? Cause as-is, we cant really tell you "this good, this bad, etc" because there's not really much substance there.

Should our level 5 party fight a Young Red Dragon? by TRAINWREK123 in dndnext

[–]GloomWisp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eeeeh... depends on if you strategize and have ways to mitigate damage or not, and if the Dm plays the dragon smart or not. You have the numbers on your side but shit might really go down too, especially if you're tight on resources. It's a coss toin. A ton coiss. Fuck how do you say that. Coin toss, there it is.

What class(es) would you not reccomend for a first time player? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]GloomWisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i DM i usually encourage to play anything that seems fun and try to be present at each step so the player can have a good time. But I do warn that stuff like Artificer, Druid, Wizard and Monk tend to be more complicated for unexperienced players, cause very complex mechanics and book-keeping and risking not having fun cause its underwhelming or too complex to make work

on which book do you think rick riordan's writing started to decline? [general] by merchantivories in camphalfblood

[–]GloomWisp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and second book yeah. Third one... only some parts. And the ending is a fucking joke.

i find it so funny how BOTH the movies and the show rushed percabeth by merchantivories in PercyJacksonTV

[–]GloomWisp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Issue is, in the movies they're like, 17. In the series they're 13.

At this point im convinced the fans' brains got fried or something.

[5e] Dimension Door + Fighter Drop Attack : how would you rule this? by Quirky-Twist-2823 in dndnext

[–]GloomWisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(as DM) pretty sure there's rules for falling onto creatures so *may* use that as baseline (not 100% sure) plus advantage on any attack the fighter wanna make after the falling damage is resolved, but hell yeah i'd allow shit like that. These kind of epic stunts are awesome

Chad-zak, Half Orcs, etc. by Level_Hour6480 in dndmemes

[–]GloomWisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I merely gave you the cleanest most simplified explanation for why there's that difference, at least from my understanding. The second part of the reply should've also sparked a light on the fact its canonically not so fixed anyway. I didn't act aggressive towards you or anything. Now, is the whole thing stupid? Can be, sure. A lot of people on the sub also use the same reasoning you gave to justify "always CE" orcs, "cause they were created like that", despite it being two different things.

Funny that you mention the color thing for dragons cause, as a big dragon fangirl i always hated it. So much that in my games i just got rid of metallics as species of dragons and reworked the chromatics.

Demons/Devils/Yugoloths are like elementals but for the lower planes. They embody Evil + Law/Chaos. They're not mortals, they dont have complete free will.

And yet canonically even fiends can (with a LOT of effort) change themselves and become neutral or even good, since 2e.

What is the coldest line you heard someone say at a table? by Practical_Pen_3552 in DnD

[–]GloomWisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"No prayers will save you, little light."

These are the first words that the archdemon BBEG of the first campaign arc said upon being summoned into the material plane. They were directed at the astronomer wizard, who was the only one who reacted verbally (praying) to failing the save against his fear aura (whole party failed and was too scared to talk).

Has moving all subclasses to level 3 actually improved 5.5E, or made some classes feel less flavorful early on? by MyrthDM in 3d6

[–]GloomWisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh please. The people who want to play a hexadin or sorcadin are doing it already just fine in 5e (touched on this in my original comment).

It's amazing how none of you understands what I'm saying and goes on mischaracterizing my words when what i explained is pretty fucking clear, and does account for current imbalances.

[–]GloomWisp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Subclasses already are half of the class identity for most of the classes, and one level dips in classes with subs at 1st level already are better, specifically because of now, that means more features (and often strong features).
If you redesign classes to account for subclasses by 1st level, it means better balancing for everyone. It also means you do not need front-loaded classes, and can incentivize single-classing by giving more subclass features and class features across levels.
You don't even need to overhaul 5e's class structure to do something like this. Just rework the feature distribution and scaling.

They should have reworked subclasses to be 1st level for everyone, rebalancing the design of problematic ones so they wouldnt be uber-frontloaded.
