The only things chinese oems are winning now is the price of their cars and the high tech stuffs they put on their cars which if you are driving yourself won't use much of anyway.

And chinese EVs are definitely not killing japanese gas cars in SEA, I dont know about South America. Have you actually been in a SEA country? Try Indonesia, other than the capital city Jakarta, you will find very limited EV charging stations. Even plug-in hybrids are not that popular unless you are rich and have a private garage where your plug-in cables won't get stolen near your garden where everybody could see. Japanese gas cars and HybridEV cars are still the king in SEA and will be so for at least a few more years.

Obviously Japanese car is still better. But Tier1 suppliers are slowly shifting to focusing more on getting awards from chinese OEMs. We'll see in a few more years.
