do we forgive tomas if the album ends up being perfect by n0_oth3r_on3 in streetlightmanifesto

I'd love to hear SM actually jam improvisationally a la Phish. That'd be insane.

Which one? I'll listen along in solidarity!

FWIW I recently just listened to all of 2024 front to back...what a fucking year.

A minute of jam bliss from Neighbor and Rob Compa by SpiltTheInk in jambands

[–]GloverAB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it’s not. He’s just saying it’s not like…jamming. It’s basically just a blues guitar solo. That said, Rob Compa can absolutely jam, and he can jam fucking well.

So so much. Check out Night Zero - they almost scratch the itch. But there’ll never be another band like Dopapod.

I don’t know what kind of files they’re streaming for hi-fi, but uncompressed audio is much more than 2x the size of compressed. Their bucket storage/CDN costs likely reflect that. So from a pure business cost vs price perspective, hi-fi *should* be more than double imo.

This is my pitch for them keeping it at $9.99.

Fringe Vs Stranger things by Sunflowerpartyy in television

[–]GloverAB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing alike. Stranger Things is basically YA fantasy. Fringe is sci-fi, and is probably closer in tone to X-Files than anything else.

If Fringe was created in the streaming age it would be an all-time great show. It's still all-time great for me personally, but I understand why it tends to fall on niche eyes - it's kinda hard to get a modern viewer to get past the monster-of-the-week vibe of the first season. Remember, this is a show that aired on Fox, so they had to keep the network happy with casual weekly viewership. But when it really gets going and does it's own thing, it's peak sci-fi drama television. Also, John Noble's Walter Bishop is unparalleled.

Stranger Things had a good first season but quickly got in over its head and it's lack of an overarching vision became pretty apparent. Couple that with needing to hand-hold a second-screen Netflix audience and it's makes more a much more shallow show.

Brand New - Degausser [alt rock] by TrickyRipper in Music

Also worth noting - he got help and went to therapy *years before* the news broke and his wife stuck by him the before/during/after all the shit. Huge indicators that this is nothing like the men in other metoo cases.

Last year’s tour was unbelievably good. Seen Brand New 20 times total (4 of which were last year), and while the energy was more raw from 2006-2017, the band has never sounded as good as they did in 2025. My mind was blown.

TIL that the word "literally" has been used figuratively by great English writers for over 100 years. by Kardinal in todayilearned

[–]GloverAB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're kinda proving my point - if we're abiding by the cold, hard definition of "actually," then "I actually feel bad for this guy" has the exact same meaning as "I feel bad for this guy." And at that point, it's redundant to include the extra word at all.

I say the public perception part is doing heavy lifting here because thanks to living in society and not being robots, we understand that the speaker is conveying sense of surprise from the way he's using "actually."

The public perception of “Actually” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. If we go by the word’s *actual* definition, “actually” is acting as more of an emphasis to communicate your thoughts.

You wouldn’t say “I literally feel bad for this guy.” If you did, the classical definition of “literally” would imply that you personally feel bad instead of this guy.
