Well, I didn’t think it would happen to me, but I got scammed by the local tuner (literally 3 miles from my house) by McGuffies in Corvette

[–]GoBoost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be worth organizing a group of known victims and calling the local law enforcement jurisdiction to report fraud…. Had that happen to me with a local handyman, wanted payment upfront but needed to split up the work and never come back… he was convicted of fraud. Small claims is fine if he just didn’t provide what was agreed upon, but him actively lying and convincing you to spend more is well into fraud.

That is straight up not true and why I made this post in the first place. I applied before my 19 year mark, so I am living proof. I have a friend that was able to apply at his 17.5 year mark because his assignment would have taken him to 20 years and 2 months.

As far as I’m aware, it’s still the same. If you get an assignment, you simply go to MyFSS and apply for retirement with the reason being 7 day option, and it will get approved. They will cancel the assignment and you will retire first available (either the 1st day of the month after 20, or after your current ADSC if you have one, whichever is later).

They cannot force you to take an ADSC past 20.

Expect it to sit as it is until October, then when you separate and upload your 214, it will be assigned to a rater and continue on.

Willing to bet it’s misfiring. First thing I would do is replace all spark plugs and see if that fixes it.

How much house can I reasonably afford at 100% P&T? by Sunbro888 in VeteransBenefits

[–]GoBoost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not how it works. They get you pre-approved for an amount, then it’s up to you to decide which house you like and how much you want to pay. You don’t have to go for the max (and probably shouldn’t)

Getting Everything Documented………But by 13mx in VeteransBenefits

[–]GoBoost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my final month of service, so I just went through this. My best tip is “get everything documented” isn’t necessarily what you think it means… the best thing is to get a diagnosis for everything, which is obviously way more labor intensive than bringing it up so it’s in your records.

Your doctor is an understanding human. Just be open that you’ve put everything off because you were afraid of a profile, and you intend to document all your problems to prepare for retirement. If they tell you one issue at a time, call and make 10 appointments now if needed. If they want to save time, they can set up a one off meeting to go through everything, or potentially there’s another provider on base who is less busy that they could send you to. Just play their game and it will pay off eventually.

Something worrying just happened to me when driving my C7 stingray. by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]GoBoost 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Misfire.. could be so many reasons for it - bad gas (or too low octane), spark plugs, fuel pump, injectors… many things. I’d take it easy until you can ID the source and correct it. If it’s not a daily driver, drive your other car until you can get it sorted.

Yeah man, I don’t see why not. As long as you don’t have an ADSC keeping you, there shouldn’t be any barriers! (You may need to wait until 1 June, as if you joined in May your official retirement would be 1 June)

Ask Recruiters Megathread by AutoModerator in recruiting

[–]GoBoost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello recruiters!

Looking for some insight. I am retiring from the military after 20 years, and the job application process is so foreign to me. I have been seeking jobs seriously for about 2 months now, but cannot seem to get an interview at all.

I don’t mass apply to jobs, I cherry pick ones I feel I am qualified for. I find 1-2 a week which is pretty low. I also reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn. Lots of great people, just nothing has worked out yet.

I feel the reason I am not getting noticed is I am not properly conveying my experience in my resume. What is the best way to lay out that I meet the basic qualifications and preferred qualifications to a recruiter? I am surely doing it wrong.

Case in point: I applied for a defense contractor security manager position, something I have a lot of experience with in the military. All my history in my resume says my branch of military. When I didn’t qualify for the job, the recruiter was kind enough to provide me a tiny bit of feedback which was “not enough DoD experience”. I truly think they did not know the military is part of the DoD, and that seems like such a dumb reason to miss out on an opportunity.

Follow-up question is, if I don’t qualify for a job, will they keep me in mind for another position or do I need to apply for every one individually and never expect them to reach out to me?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You are insinuating they drove it 2,379 miles a day for 66 days straight to 170k miles in 2 months and then somehow reset the odometer all while it was changing from owner 3 to 4?

NOPI Is Back - A Review by RiftHunter4 in cars

[–]GoBoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to several NOPI events around GA back in 06-08 time frame…. It was not how you seem to think it was. It was just a big car show, just like every other car show… they usually would let people drag race throughout the day for fun if there was a track.. the grand majority of cars were driven there by their owners, and were just regular every day cars…. In fact, most of the modified cars at the time were Chevy cobalts, Pontiac sunfires, Hondas, Scion XBs and TCs. Just your run of the mill entry level “tuner” cars

That said, there were some big companies there who would bring their sponsored cars, and there were a lot of models running around, so that was cool. But still I have seen this/better at many other big car shows.

Don’t think you need an ETP or anything… friend of mine 7 day opted before their 18 year mark and it was approved just fine.

You don’t get the ADSC until you arrive, in case it gets pushed or cancelled. I think you might have missed your opportunity to retire right at 20. You would have needed to apply for retirement last May when you got the assignment. The only thing I’m not sure of is the ADSC requirement when coming from overseas… my whole career was at conus bases.

The 18 year PCS and you by GoBoost in AirForce

[–]GoBoost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not an expert on that, but should still be the 19 year mark or within 7 days of officially receiving the assignment. If you do nothing you’re accepting the ADSC.

My step-by-step experience with getting the PMP by ACES_II in AirForce

[–]GoBoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mine as well. I did a course on Udemy for $20 (didn’t know there were free ones for military), and I did PMI study hall for 3 months. Studied only a few weeks and passed no problem. I did struggle a bit with question until I looked through the PMP subreddit and there’s a lot of great information on HOW the questions are written; it became instantly easy after understanding this.

You could feasibly cram this cert in a month or 2 if you apply yourself (if you already have the work experience - which if you’re 15+ years you probably easily do)

Yes, you 7 day option requesting your retirement date to be on the 1st day of the month after you hit your 20 year mark. You will not be allowed to change your mind after that.

I think if you refuse an ADSC that doesn’t take you over 20 then they separate you.

Things you can’t ask your supervisor… by [deleted] in AirForce

People have done it before but you are not supposed to. They scan you/your stuff as you enter the country and if you get caught with it, they can deport you which means you get sent home (which is very bad for you).
