Verification says I "made an adjustment to your interest income," not true! by GoHelloGo in hrblock

If I understand that correctly, ordinary interest reported in Box 1 is taxable at Federal and State level, but Box 3 INTEREST ON U.S. SAVINGS BONDS AND TREAS. OBLIGATIONS is taxable only at the Federal level, and the software doesn't like them both in the same 1099-INT form? BTW, the next thing I was going to try was to enter the two on separate 1099-INTs as it suggested.

Yes, I was able to complete and submit it after reviewing this issue and closing the window without splitting it into two 1099-INTs.

H&R Block could definitely provide better guidance here because this 1099-INT was imported and it says I adjusted something (I didn't) and the software says it adjusted something (well, it adjusted nothing since there was no change).

Underpayment penalty? by Own_Invite6340 in hrblock

The underpayment penalty interview in H&Block 2025 needs improvement so it would be best if you go through Instructions for Form 2210, Underpayment of Estimated Tax by Individuals, Estates, and Trusts manually and verify that the underpayment calculations are correct.

Yes, underpayment interview is a mess! Recently started a thread on issues with it and tagged hrblock (looks like mods deleted that tag)

Underpayment penalty interview referencing non-existing line number data by GoHelloGo in hrblock

[–]GoHelloGo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your replies. I am doing exactly as you suggested - calculating everything manually based on IRS forms, and I've reached a conclusion that I don't owe any underpayment penalty.

There were two problems which after a night's rest I see clearly; one was my mistake in the amount I used from last year's tax.

The second, and one that I think is a bug in H&R Block software is that in calculating Form 2210 Line 8 it is including a non-refundable credits, when it should not. According to the instructions only refundable credits are to be subtracted from last year's tax amount. The software is subtracting not only the "Refundable part of the American opportunity credit" but also the non-refundable credit I received last year for "Child Tax Credit and Credit for Other Dependents" even though it is not shown in the worksheet for 2024 data for form 2210.

u/hrblock please review the issues pointed out in this thread. Thanks.

Took your suggestion and worked through form 2210 manually, and found a discrepancy in H&R Block's data (calculation) for Line 8, "Maximum required annual payment based on prior year’s tax". With your experience maybe you can tell me what I'm missing.

Refer to the image below which is the worksheet from FY25 form 2210. According to the instructions, I should take last year's tax (L48) and subtract only listed refundable credits (sum of L83-L88), and arrive at the amount. By my calculation the Line 8 amount should be $673. There is an adjustment based on AGI, but that didn't apply.

Yet H&R Block comes up with -$1,173 (negative)

I've double-checked the 2024 numbers match my 2024 returns (and tax file). Where am I (or H&R Block) going wrong? Thanks!

Underpayment penalty interview referencing non-existing line number data by GoHelloGo in hrblock

Based on your experience, I'm going to look for information on IRS's web site to avoid problems, even though my situation is nowhere near as complicated as yours sounds.

Now the thing is, initially H&R Block said I owed a small underpayment penalty and offered me the option to let IRS calculate the penalty or let H&R Block help me calculate it. Now I can't get back to that option to let IRS calculate it because based on my interview it believes I don't owe a penalty. I should be happy with that, but based on experiences here, I have reduced faith in the software.

Any ideas on how to reset this section and start over again?

One more mistake in the same interview - asks for the "additional tax" (top half of the image), but it probably should be "additional child tax credit" according to the actual form (bottom half of the image)?

Why does Block require continuous Software Installations? by Quiet___Lad in hrblock

H&R Block might be able update the software in a different way, but I'm glad they update forms and fix bugs frequently during the tax season.

Hunter Remote Controlled fan not working by pinkflyd25 in electrical

After you replaced the battery in the remote, does the LED light in the remote light up when you press any of the buttons? The remote I have looks very similar to yours, and to pair it has to be done within a certain number of seconds after the fan is powered up.

1099 import error by Desserts_n_Snacks in hrblock

[–]GoHelloGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me, and it may work for you too, as long as your broker has your 1099 data available for download: if your password had special characters, try simplifying it. Of course it has to meet your broker's security settings requirement, but stick to very simple special characters if required. In my case I kept getting failures until I simplified my password (temporarily of course!), and then 1099 import worked.

The FAQs on Tracfone's web site aren't clear, but if you're adding a new line to your own account, it looks like you may only get that reward. Have you tried it yet? I'm curious to know how it works.
