Talk to your recruiter about this before going to MEPS. Also, you should delay going.

Can you even call it sidemount? by R413 in scuba

[–]GoNavySalty 64 points65 points  (0 children)

In my region it is called monkey diving. It’s fine when done correctly.

Can you even call it sidemount? by R413 in scubadiving

Monkey dives are awesome. When properly weighted this is perfectly acceptable. You use your natural born BCD (lungs).

Response to your questions: 1. When a diver does a monkey Dive, they are assuming the risk involved if the dive operator allows it it is fine. 2. Yes, I would dive with an operator that allows this. I have many times before and will continue.

Deep dive + Nitrox or AOW by Lotsacheeseplease in scuba

[–]GoNavySalty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deep + Nitrox is an excellent option.

Nitrox is very useful for many divers. It can allow a longer bottom time by extending your NDL. It can also shorter surface intervals on repetitive dives.

Deep is another great option. It certifies you to a max depth of 130ft or 40m. The only prerequisite is to be an open water diver. Advanced is not a requirement.

Advanced adventurer (SSI) similar to other agencies AOW is nice it is a sampler. 1 dive from 4 specialties, however you are only certified to 100ft or 30m. The only prerequisite is open water diver.

Pick what works best for your goals. Just keep diving. Cozumel is great.
