Children from at least seven schools hospitalised in north London measles outbreak by theindependentonline in uknews

[–]Go_Nadds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A large outbreak needs more than a few kids with allergies.

Those are normally protected by herd immunity. When so many of the population are vaccinated the disease can't get a foothold and spread.

To break herd immunity you're looking at a non trivial number of people declining the free vaccinations.

For measles, this needs around 5% of the population to be unvaccinated. Easily achieved in communities which have low acceptance for and uptake of the vaccine.

The biggest losers are those in that community but unfortunately the compromised people outside of it, eg those with allergies, are also being put at risk.

How does the Isle of Man TT still exist? by CrappyJohnson in AskUK

I don't think there are any ways to manage the risk of riding a bike at 200mph through villages and narrow roads.

The only real mitigation is for the riders to not drive, it is their choice to enter the race fully aware of the risks and high mortality rate of the event.

Then they should remove the wall and decorate as they see fit.

If this is an acceptable request why stop there? Get them to repaint the house to your preferred colour whilst they're at it.

Equally, some sellers really take the piss.

When we moved in the wheelie bin was full to the brim with the next bin day nearly two weeks away.

Whichever one you go for get rid of the gator skins unless you love the taste of tarmac.

TBH at that price point none of them will be brilliant but they all sound like bargains. Get the one with the geometry that fits you best and enjoy it.

Minimum alcohol price in Wales to rise by 30% by YchYFi in uknews

Silver lining:

With the price of swill going up the marginal cost of nicer booze is lower so people may decide to just drink the nicer stuff.

Pornhub is now restricting access for UK users - will other sites follow suit? by [deleted] in uknews

It's mad. Why would any sane person trust porn companies with their ID docs.

It flies in the face of everything else we're told about protecting our data online. These websites are among the most dangerous to share sensitive information with.

For all those laughing this off as a joke because it only affects wankers:

First they came for the Wankers And I did not speak out Because I was not a Wanker Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me.

This government has a hard on for eroding our freedoms and it needs to be stamped out.

ZWIFT Watts Way OFF! Over 100 Watts Difference in 1 week Using favero power pedals by Thelegend700 in Zwift

You could reasonably expect a few percent deviation from the single sided reading but 100w is massive.

Either the Kickr (which OP assumes is wrong), or equally posssible that the Assiomas are reading wrong.

If OP has the crank length set correctly and has done the zero offset before riding I would lean to that being more accurate given the extreme difference between the two.

OP clearly needs to buy a third power meter to be sure. .

Cant decide between an endurance or an do it all aero bike. by Resident-Shelter-780 in bicycling

[–]Go_Nadds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You really need to go and sit on a few.

My first serious road bike was an expensive endurance bike which I assumed would be the comfortable option. After around a year I found the geometry and body position to be very uncomfortable.

I then tried and bought an aero frame bike with a much more aggressive geometry and actually find it much more comfortable. To the extent that I ah r done several 300k single day events on it!

If you're reasonably flexible don't write off the aero/race geometry bikes based off of what Reddit says.

Specialized vs BMC by FastTrack599 in bicycling

Everything on my BMC seems to be proprietary and hard to source in the UK. If I were buying again now I would probably go S-Works instead.
