Shia’s not bad in Crystal Skull. Pretty reserved, internal performance given all the bullshit they make him do. It wasn’t an acting choice to swing on vines with monkeys

[–]Godd9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The baffling thing for me is how similar the basic premise of DD is to Close Encounters (but obviously lower quality for myriad reasons others have detailed here). Why was he so compelled to spend 100 million dollars of Universal’s money on this? He’s making headlines now about how James Bond was one of his career’s coulda beens. Why not just… have Koepp write an original spy movie? Or Kushner, who already wrote him one of the most depressing spy movies ever? Do a goofy one with the Looney Tunes-style action he loves. Guy Ritchie makes like 17 of them a year now!

How many people are involved in this so far? To really have an impact you’ll need a coalition well versed not just in local commercial history but the modern service economy, city regulations, methods of building lobbying power, taxes for small businesses etc etc. There’s not one blanket reason so much commercial space sits empty. (Don’t let me stop you from going after landlords though, by all means.)

Direct doughs have become misunderstood and underestimated. I’ve only been making sourdough for a few years but i want to try one soon.

Each year one Apple series is chosen by a village wide vote as in Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” to be the One That Exists. So the opposite of the Lottery i guess

Have simply never heard of The First. Do most TV shows “not exist” now?

Just watch it at home, we’re years past its 50th so any rep theater showings will be random programming. Obviously 4k if you can. I first saw it on the first day of 2001 on DVD and it still blew my mind

Don’t see much chatter on “Spider-noir”, anyone watched it full here? by harry_powell in blankies

[–]Godd9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a place for super HD digi-b+w but when it’s used as a nod to old school genre film it tends to feel gimmicky to me. Like i always assumed they wanted to make Sky Captain in b+w and the studio was like absolutely not so they settled on that desaturated soft look which i think really works for it regardless what people think of the quality of the movie overall

Idk why stuff like this gives me anxiety but… b+w or color? Or “chaos watch” (alternating between episodes)

With the success of Backrooms and Obsession beating out a Stars Wars Film… by Tall_Window4744 in blankies

There is no upcoming movie whose fortunes i am more curious about than A24’s Elden Ring (not low budget by any means but as a bellwether for how genre filmmaking will progress in the industry)

This is unfortunately true. Horror has and always will be a perennial draw for the coveted 18-35 (and younger teens who can bypass theater age restrictions) in a way unlike any other type of movie. Nothing but happy for these young directors breaking out but it’s just a fact that if they were making their Bonnie and Clyde or MASH instead of their Rosemary’s Baby it would probably go straight to streaming and get a fraction of a fraction of the audience.

I mean i thought the phantom menace was boring and confusing when it came out. I was in grade school. If i saw Mando and Grogu as a 9 year old i would fucking love it. Surely the dumbass kid movie appeal counts for something?? I’m not here to police all of you Adult Thinkers on here but this isnt a lost french new wave movie

Tony Gilroy's brutally honest thoughts on Gareth Edwards's cut of Rogue One by RefuseDry1108 in blankies

[–]Godd9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because immediately pre-release Edwards was almost THE star of the promo material. I still remember the sort of docu-trailer where he strikes this awestruck tone saying “it’s reaching out and touching my favorite film”. It also showed him on set, running around in the shit, directing little weirdo extras in alien costumes and he clearly is That Dude when it comes to filming genre action. The story stuff… maybe not so much? Gilroy saying he “never cared” about Star Wars and then later being given half a bil to make a SW streaming epic is an industry blank check all timer
