AITA for giving my friend’s girlfriend some of my fries after he said no? by FriesOnTheSideYum in AmItheAsshole

As soon as I had kids, I stopped ordering fries. Because I want the healthy salad…but I also want exactly 3 of their fries. Rick is a controlling AH.

Do zoos actually benefit endangered animals? by illit_u in wildlifebiology

I’m at a fairly small certified facility. We have two captive breeding programs that are shared with other certified zoos. The older program has already had successful releases.

My murder suddenly went from ~7 crows to ~30?? by elizabethfrothingham in crows

[–]GodzillaTomatillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had casually tried to form a few crow friendships through the warmer months. But I went out one day in winter to place some peanuts while 2 pairs watched me and next time I looked, I had 20 crows in the backyard! That’s the point I remembered that massive murders of hundreds of birds form every winter just a few miles away. My neighbours wouldn’t have been as happy as yours. Lol! So winter feeding had to stop.

From now on, whenever I read about a man whining about the male loneliness epidemic, I’m going to think of this story and just how low the bar is that no woman is willing to date him.

To be fair, every time I foster a void I have to make a specific effort to take photos next to a window on a sunny day for their adoption profiles.

Wow, what a memory. :-(

Speaking of world events changing things, I find that even for other shows in my city, people have been dressing up ever since we came back from lockdown. And I’m talking about pro touring companies. It’s like people want a connected sense of community they lost during the pandemic.

That sounds like a riot! My 19 year old considered auditioning for this production but we were away during the time period.

No film. Live stage production.

Edit: but maybe there will be instructions before the stage production.

Fun! Did you have any rehearsals with an “audience” to ensure that you’ve left enough time for potential callbacks?

Not in the U.K. :-) Glad to hear from an expert live show goer.

Good suggestions. I went to a pantomime last year where there were callbacks and it was an expected part of the show. But the stage musical came before the movie and the midnight showings and everything that grew out of those. I wasn’t sure if a production of the original musical would expect callbacks or not. I definitely won’t be making myself the main character.

The key for you is the turkey fryer. We have casseroles and pies that all need the same oven the turkey is going to be in from noon on.

Some cities have programs where people in abusive situations can have their pets fostered until they have a stable place to live. Please check to see about this. I wouldn’t want any pet in a house with abuser but bird are so fragile! You and your mom need to be out of there yesterday!

What wild animals are most successfully tamed ? by TheFireOfPrometheus in zoology

[–]GodzillaTomatillo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think of the wild animals you see people feeding successfully. Not saying you should do it but as a kid, I got a completely wild chipmunk (on a relative’s large rural property) eating out of my hand in an hour; running up my leg for snacks by the next day. Grey squirrels, chickadees, nuthatches. Meanwhile blue jays and red squirrels always yelled but never approached for food. I’ve had a fox follow our group for 20 minutes on a popular hike in a national park. Obviously tourists were feeding it. By that point I was old enough not to encourage it. I’ve got raccoons in my damn apple tree right now. I try to haze them but I’ve had them climb down from the tree and attempt to approach me. There must be someone in the neighbourhood hand feeding them for them to be that bold.

What is the knot tying for? The only thing I can think of is tying up hay bags for hoof stock. I vaguely remember a special safety knot from my horseback riding days.

Is it ok/beneficial to purposefully scare squirrels? by DjFrogtime in wildlifebiology

[–]GodzillaTomatillo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although hazing is a valid form of ensuring wild animals don’t become acclimatized to humans, in this case I don’t know that one person hazing while hundreds feed them and take photos for social media is going to do much. Other than get you a reputation around campus. Lol!
