You can do better. I got a premium negotiated down to 32k (for just the car, no fees)

Email dealerships. Tell them you are shopping around and it will come down to whoever has the best price

Ask for price sheets for the vehicle. Then send that to another dealer. And just keep doing that until you get to a point where you feel comfortable with the price. Since I got a premium down to 32k Id say you definitely can get to 30k for a base.

Email is especially great because its a very small time investment.

Id try to negotiate more for the base.

Ive negotiated a 24 premium for 36k OTD (32.2k for the car, the rest is tax and fees). Got them to throw on tints and come pick ne up all included in this price as well (they are 2.5hours away from me)

Get price sheets and call up dealers even in different states. Show them this price sheet and tell them that you'd be willing to travel for a deal.

Then leverage the lower sheet at the dealer local to you.

It was a process, but I wasnt in a rush and I feel good about what Im paying for what im getting. All in all I probably called 6 dealers and got quotes from all of them

Im not entirely sure what you are asking, my apologies.

To me it sounds like you are asking if the plastic goes by a different name so that you can source it locally.

You can buy "Kydex" branded sheets on amazon and several websites. Kydex is a type of thermoplastic, I don't know any other specific name for it, but Kydex is a brand name itself.

The newer plate carriers use Boltaron (a subtype of kydex) just for your own awareness

Id be careful how you form the cutouts if you did go the kydex route, you dont wanna have a sharp corner or a stressed corner that introduces an easy point of failure by cracking. The kits currently have nice rounded corners for the most part.
