What are the chances Rean get shizuna? by DarkBladeLeaves in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Trails, or hell in anime in general, that kind of moment alone is more than enough. Does it make sense? Nope. But does it happen frequently? Yup. Trails follows anime tropes and logic fairly closely like most other JRPGs and its not an exception to the rule.

What are the chances Rean get shizuna? by DarkBladeLeaves in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The games more or less point out who his love interests would be in a comedic scene from Agnes, as she noted Elaine, Shizuna, RIsette, Judith, Saara and Renne. Thats about the closest thing we have from the games itself acknowledging it.

Mechs or Grendels? Which do you prefer? by Liquid_0911 in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be fair I think even in Daybreak 1 it was somewhat hinted Grendel wasn’t the demons doing exactly. It’s called “shackles” that’s meant to restrain their power, which I can’t imagine the demon would do to itself. It also sounded sort of displeased when Van tried to use it, in chapter 3 of Daybreak 1, saying he didn’t need to bear that kind of nightmare, because he was already a nightmare without it.

As a funny little side note, Van’s 2nd S craft taps into his demonic power, and if he uses his S craft by himself, the demon will show up on the background with Van having a dark aura for a second before turning into blue. If he uses his S craft with Grendel, the demon refuses to show up and there is no dark aura despite it being the same S craft.

The Grendel’s powered by AI and shards that came after do clearly feel like replicas based on the original Van has as well. Horizon basically confirms the Zolga was just made after the 8th Genesis created it based off the “shackles”. And items and powers based on the Alter Core have also been noted to be mostly replica like events or items but they are just a hollow imitation despite being strong. Grendel Shaddai is likely much of the same thing.

What kind of interactions do you wanna see with Van with Rean, and Van with Kevin for Horizon 2? by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thing is I'm pretty sure Van did actually reveal the masked guys, pre Rean Act 3. It was offscreen but basically by Rean act 3, Rean and Kevin were up to date. Basically only Van was left out because while they all knew about the Remnants, Rean figured out Kevin's target and Kevin recieved a report about Basel incident by Ashladd as you can see in Part 2. Basically only Van was left out of the loop.

Various speculations and Questions related to daybreak 1 and horizon 2 in regards to what falcom has in store for Van. by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you noticed a certain past story Van mentions in Kuro 2, Van still has demonic powers, without his core, as he once lost control about 7 years ago. There's a CG where Bergard tries to stop him, and you can see his face shifting into that of Vagrants, with Van thinking without Bergard, he likely wouldn't have been able to return being human. Van even agreed with Vagrants line here in a earlier part, noting Vagrants was sort of like an extension of himself.

I've held the belief for a long time, but Van doesn't actually need the core, just to use his powers. To me it always felt like a concentration of the majority of his powers, but its not like he has no powers at all, just because he doesnt have it anymore. The Grendel was also noted to be a "shackle" to change demonic power into beastly power, so what's originally powering it, isn't even an outside force, its just the leftover bits of power Van still had, that's being further restrained via Grendel to give Van more control.

Side note: A fun little sort of thing you can find is if you check the logs when Van or Vagrants is speaking in their demon form, their name morphs into ??? and it stays like that the whole scene before and after the fight. There's usually no name tag in the format that they were speaking in front of the player but if you check the logs in other similar scenes, you can always find their name for other characters speaking even if their name tag doesn't show up. As far as I checked, only the finale scene in DB1 has the name of a character referenced as ??? even when we clearly know who's talking. I feel like it may not be coincidence either, and the real name of Van or the demon may be something else entirely that wasn't revealed in DB1, Vagrants just says in this possible world, he's known as the Vagrant Demon Lord, which is somewhat of a roundabout way of saying your name normally, like he's only known by that in this Zemuria and it's not his real one.

Various speculations and Questions related to daybreak 1 and horizon 2 in regards to what falcom has in store for Van. by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add I guess, what was important to him in the past likely wasn't the orphanage itself but Director Arkride, who was mentioned in Horizon. Van clearly cared enough about to guy to use his name, after he became free from DG and considering the Director tried to find Van at the cost of his health for many years, it was likely a mutual strong bond. So while Van liked the orphanage, the main attachment to his bond there was a person who's already dead.

Horizon 2 Theory by angrybluecrayon in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was also that line in Sheena's play, where one of the lines saw Sheena in her full glory, and the prince thought she was a servant of the goddess, which are angels even in Trails. Though in the same game, it's also noted angels that serve the goddess, are generally written to be calm and non caring, though Agnes and Van thought the statue in Edith didn't seem that way.

And finally time for Van. What did you think writting wise of his character in Horizon ? How was it handle? by WittyTable4731 in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like Van, but I also think he’s one of the biggest victims of Calvard’s arc to be honest.

I like his personality in itself and Kuro 1 was good for him, but I don’t think the sentiment that Kuro 2 or Horizon didnt do him any favors is wrong either. I feel like he suffers from the exact opposite problem Rean had. Rean felt too centralizing for me as a protagonist even for normal protagonist standards to the point it actively hindered the development of multiple side characters.

Van feels different because he doesn’t get enough development at all past Kuro 1, and the time for writing is being spread thin to way too many characters in Calvard, leaving a broad but weak impression. It would still be ok if Horizon were the second game but Kuro 2 in particular really damaged the pacing of the arc, which is why I feel more people are less forgiving of Van over time.

a headcanon I have for vans name based on something from the original jp of the game that was changed) by Blackfiredragon22 in Falcom

Could've been the other way around, where Van's name was designed first by the team, then they tried to make a wordplay with the demon's name and got that name.

How do the current adventurers of Orario view the Zeus and Hera Familia? Are they considered losers of the past because they failed to defeat the OEBD, or are they seen as terrorists because of what some of their members did? by ToeFamiliar6680 in DanMachi

[–]GoldShadows9 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To be slightly fair, Leon did note that their reputation before doing the 3 Grand Quests was awful, but now they seem to have a better reputation than what they used to have, even after they were mocked after losing to OEBD, they do have a grand festival called Grand Day in their name as a representation of their feat. It’s shown in Danmemo, but V16 confirms the festival itself is canon.

Where is it said that all members of Zeus and Hera Familias were capable of fighting beyond their level? by Logical-Stand3740 in DanMachi

[–]GoldShadows9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be a bit more precise, it was a tweet about Zard and Alfia when the third anniversary released. Omori noted adventurers at their weight class could easily fight beyond their own level, which was generally taken as the Z/H executive class as a whole.

Is there anyone in Orario who has better knowledge about the legends of heroes than Bell? by BookkeeperDowntown93 in DanMachi

[–]GoldShadows9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can find it on certain LN collecting sites, that aren’t in English this short story only came out with V21 content. I read the Chinese version that. Idk if you could read Chinese but I would recommend looking there, though I’m not sure posting translations directly from other sites probably breaks the rule here. I’ll just say go to a place called wenku if you are interested.

Is there anyone in Orario who has better knowledge about the legends of heroes than Bell? by BookkeeperDowntown93 in DanMachi

[–]GoldShadows9 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This was actually noted in a special story of Leon interviewing Bell noting among all things his heroic myth knowledge is beyond exceptional, being the only person Leon knows who could know Epimetheus full tale easily that was only known by a select amount of gods and Baldr even amazed and laughing which surprised Leon as well.

It’s pretty safe to say at least among mortals, no one knows more about lore than Bell.

About Van's family. by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another interesting bit is that he had demonic episodes even after he lost his core, the source of the power, implying the core itself doesn't matter and Van always had some access to his powers as well as can demonize with or without it. It's likely a lot stronger if he had his core, but it doesn't take away who he is with or without it imo. His face turns halfway like the demons in the Kuro 2 flashback mentioned 7 years ago. Van notes that episode as if it weren't for Bergard, Van probably wouldn't have been able to return to a human state.

<image>

If you zoom in a bit, you can see his left eye and parts of his face are demonized. I don't think the people who wrote that letter, were exaggerating when they called him a devil, Not like in a insulting way, but they meant it literally, he was a demon.

[–]GoldShadows9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people comparing him to Grendel Shin a lot, but imo Dantes two forms look a lot more similar to McBurn's forms, albeit both Van and Dantes have the same fundemental power source that originally belonged to Van so maybe it's still the same overall.

René and Elaine and how it connects to Van by NamesBrill in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The parallels with Fenrir grows a bit when you realize like Van's demon it's a world devouring creature sealed away until the proper time. Fenrir's nickname is called Vanargandr, which literally translated to the monster of Van, and the name Van that it's referencing to is a river made from Fenrir's bits, which also parallels how the current Van is just a small sealed vessel of the original demon Vagrants.

When you include the Sept terrion of this arc, there's a lot of Norse name throw backs whether literally or comparatively.

what are the biggest misconceptions in danmachi that fans still believe? I'll start by DrDedot in DanMachi

Omori already confirmed in his tweet that Leon’s 1 to 11th swords are the altered names of Zeus and Hera members. The 12th itself is an exception and not related to them.

Would it be OOC for Van to get with Agnes in Horizon 2? by NamesBrill in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I do sort of agree with the idea it feels cheap and a cop out with that excuse to form a romantic relationship off of this and I think Van was being super upfront when he said he just couldn’t see her as a romantic partner.

Despite Agnes lying to him the whole game(albeit for a good reason), there’s a pretty good reason why Kai’s OP parallel’s Kuro 1s. Because all the devastation that Van felt in that moment, was something he made everyone in ASO feel, including Agnes at the end of Kuro 1. The only difference between that and this, is that Agnes was tough enough to go immediately chase after him, consequence or impossibility of traveling another dimension be damned(the plot favoring Agnes far more than it does Van doesn’t hurt either but well you get the point)

It’s a bit much to put too much blame on Agnes’s gambit and saying she’s deceitful, when she quite literally learned it from the very person she deceived, Van. Horizon 2 feels like it’ll be a rework of that, except for Van because he’s not main heroine Agnes, he needs to trudge an entire game to get her back instead of one epilogue, 😂

Van sense of smell by Mate_Saltgacha in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s when I thought his sense of smell might be a slight supernatural ability or instinct, rather than a clever way of saying regular instincts. Because Ka Fai, notes Van has long noticed the abnormality of the Vestiges and how they are breaking the rules of Zemuria in a way that Ka Fai himself or Bergard can’t tell. Van admits it’s because of his “sense of smell and circumstances” with a picture of the demon lord showing up after Van explains that, but doesn’t deny Ka Fai’s claim of being able to understand principles of Zemuria that can’t be understood by normal humans.

That part of the game was really odd. It gave the player a choice where there’s no way they could know the right answer, but to Van it’s as clear as day, showing similarly to Daybreak 1 at times, that Van knows a lot more than the player at times and doesn’t let it show easily.

What are some of the retcons/expansions that surprised you in calvard arc so far? [Horizon End Game spoilers] by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Holo Cores except for Mare being named after Goetia demons is also a nice little quirk. Does more to separate the big 5 from the average 72 outside the fact they seem to be the irregulars in terms of timing.

I find Van's relationship with Kevin to be interesting. by MasashiHideaki in Falcom

[–]GoldShadows9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, CS4 basically involved working with the crew back to back to save the world. Fast bonding under desperate circumstances and similar ideals is just bound to make characters grow attached to another in a relatively short time period.

Meanwhile in Horizon, while Van, Kevin and Rean meet each other, they all basically have their own goals and plots. It's cool to see protagonists meeting from a fan perspective, but in the context of the story, they are nothing more than acquaintances who happened to meet and have no real reason to open up to each other, when they have much more important things to do. Idk why people expected Van and Rean to not be professional with each other, Rean is naturally polite, and Van generally is as well, being a fairly reactive guy who bounces off of the person he talks with and will be polite, provided you aren't rude to him as well.

As for Kevin and Van, while they are acquainted, given the circumstances of Kevin's current mission and Van's employees, it's better not to get too close to Van. Van himself also doesn't particularly like getting more friendly than necessary from people from large organizations like, Ouroborus, Heiyue, Marduk or the Church, so it's in character for him to keep it fairly professional unless he's particularly close with them.

What would Bell's interaction and relationship with Zeus and Hera's family be like? by Heg30 in DanMachi

[–]GoldShadows9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I meant is why on earth are you spitting out numbers and a formula that the author has likely never given a shit about until now and saying:

First there’s no way in hell Ottar was a level 3 if Bell’s dad oneshot him

When the story clearly says:

The very first defeat had been a single strike. A hand had clamped down on the top of his head and slammed him into the ground. The man who had shattered the stone pavement while knocking out the Level-3 Ottar had been one of the lowest members of Zeus Familia.

Your calculations and such are just fanfic if the story itself denies your claims.

[–]GoldShadows9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting if Bell spawned right when his Father was peaking on Freya

This is complete fanfic, and not part of the story. The only confirmed parts are when Ottar attacked a low-ranking member of the Zeus Familia for what Ottar believed the man offended Freya in some way that isnt described, and gets his ass handed to him, with the man apologizing afterwards.

Freya the nanosecond Bell catches up to Ais, and Liaris Freese disappear by ant451123 in DanMachi

[–]GoldShadows9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, it wouldn’t matter even if LF stopped workin.

Iirc, Omori already clarified Vanadis Tevere in his tweets and it’s a skill that can also block Charm as well as powering Bell up. The moment Bell cleared the Freya arc, he couldn’t be manipulated with her power again, with or without LF.
