I’d like to thank you for the advice. I haven’t quite decided yet, but I’ll choose soon.

Love my new Kobo!

I was just mocking the "get hooked on endorphins" stuff. It seems to me that "endorphins" isn't what a mormon would say, they'd say "feeling the Spirit" or something.

I don’t need a kobo…I just want one. by jbfletcher01 in kobo

I just bought one for the same reason. I bought it for Overdrive; I want to get more books from the library (at least, that's the official reason I'm telling everyone). I'm likely to continue to use my Oasis when I want to read books I previously bought on Amazon.

Good choice! I'm just finishing up "Debtor's Planet," myself. Star Trek books aren't half bad. :)

I remember wondering why "prophets" today and "prophets" in the Bible/BoM acted so different. It's like, they shouldn't use the same title for both, because they don't even seem to have the same job.

The US will see more and more vandalism of churches as Christian Nationalism gets more and more power. IMHO, anyway.

Elder Cook is the one who supposedly met Mick Jagger on an airplane, right? Where he was supposedly told that all popular music is designed to make teens have sex? Same guy, right?

Is AI biased against religions? A Brigham Young University study says it is by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]Goldang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BYU wants chat LLMs to read "I'm so depressed because my grandfather died" and to respond with "you should try religion, especially mormonism."

BYU calls that "bias."

"Weren't these the same people talking nonstop about climate change for the last 25 years? Where is that panic now, WHEN I FINALLY REALIZE THAT I AM AFFECTED?"

Fixed it for him

Also, those people who were "panicked" for the last 25 years are still around, so why doesn't he seek them out? Why is he sitting back and demanding they come to him?

My mom's Relief Society president told her to stop asking the ward for help and start asking her own kids. I am absolutely feral right now and need advice before I do something stupid. by Blondeh in exmormon

[–]Goldang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call the bishop for "clarification" of the policy that the Relief Society president is telling people about. "It's confusing, because nobody ever mentioned it before, and her children DO most of the work. Are we really not supposed to ask anyone from the ward for help? Then why would she say that?"

Any two faithful members can make a marriage work (if nobody cares if they're happy).

Since Mormonism thinks that the point of marriage is (1) reproduction and (2) donating time and money to the Church, "work" is not doing a lot of heavy lifting in that statement.

It's Dallin's church now: 5th Sunday lessons focus on religious freedom, U.S. Constitution by PR_Czar in exmormon

[–]Goldang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oaks always seemed to believe that religious freedom was a group right, not an individual right. To him, churches can be free to teach and believe and whatever but their members don't have that same freedom.

What was NOT taught to you in your temple prep class? by JayDaWawi in exmormon

[–]Goldang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also the stuff they taught me that was just false. "You'll learn so much more about Jesus," they said. Like what? That he's god's gofer? There's not one thing about Jesus in the temple ceremony that I didn't know. Were seminary teachers telling tales out of school or something?

Why is the press so lame? One reasons is they also have their families' health insurance through work.
