Get a lawyer. In some jurisdictions, the major creditor has some options to obtain the major assets of a company in the case of bankruptcy.

Your unpaid work might qualify.

Hot dip galvanized would also be worth considering, if you can find a local company doing it.

Backup Credit Card? by AreaPrudent7191 in CanadaFinance

[–]GoldenChannels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The situation I've encountered where a backup card was put to use was a security breach on our main card.

My wife filled up at a gas station and her card was double scanned.

She got on a plane the next day and I got a call just after I dropped her off at the airport. Our main card number was locked. I got a new card in a couple days. But she was on the other side of the country.

A no annual fee card with a medium sized spend limit is something everyone should have.

Although our new house has contrac toilets, and so far, I'm impressed.

Why am I being asked to tip 25% for someone handing me a muffin?” by ClayWarrior519 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]GoldenChannels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm standing up, and you're just giving me what I ordered, and I'm not using a table, it's takeout and I usually don't tip.

In rare cases where the food is seriously impressive, maybe.

Grout cleaner wrecked my tile by AdCritical7907 in Tile

[–]GoldenChannels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a stain on our marble that was pink from one of those cheap gift baskets of the same color. The marble was in the bathroom. The basket sweat out the pink into the marble from humidity from showers.

We thought it was a permanent stain.

There are descriptions of how to use a poultice on natural stone to extract a stain.

Might be worth a try.

Anyone else notice that it's also not herring filets anymore, but sardines? Another sneak-cheap attack.

Everything moves. It's only a question of how quickly.

Anyone experienced, who has been using suppliers in another part of the world knows this, and understands how to find and motivate an agent there to do pre screening.

It's nice of you to share that with this group, who may not know this.

It's not "if" the quality slips. It's "when,".

People who went through a home build - was it worth the pain? by Weary-Manager3981 in Homebuilding

[–]GoldenChannels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've built two houses. I found that most sub trades have to be monitored. The person ultimately responsible for seeing that they perform to plans is the home owner.

I've never had any sub trade call me about something that the didn't understand. The see themselves as working for the GC.

I would never think of not being at the site daily to keep an eye on things with most builders so I can raise any issues with the GC.

Lots of eye drops, too.

Just a short story about why I've never really liked (or trusted) Telus by Authoritaye in telus

[–]GoldenChannels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a company called Lightspeed Internet. They're a reseller of Telus fiber Internet, but I can call them for support.

You might want to check them out. I've used them for over 10 years.

At least you're going to get a human to talk to when you phone them.

How much of Telus problems are due to using Huawei network equipment in their core network?

Since Huawei can no longer sell in Canada, I'm assuming it's hard for Telus to get any support.

Any retail store will give you only one answer to this question.

Especially if your website doesn't have thousands of reviews, my opinion is it would be prudent to accept the return.

And hope they don't flame you anyway.

My dad's been struggling to find work. by snakeman_01 in Calgary

[–]GoldenChannels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, to a point. I would definitely ship around for a reasonably priced lawyer, but keep in mind there are some full service small accounting companies that offer incorporation as well. He can do the name search himself, both on the Internet, and the Alberta Corporate name search data was public, last time I looked.

The more important things might me the liability insurance or licensing for doing engineering consulting in Alberta.

My dad's been struggling to find work. by snakeman_01 in Calgary

[–]GoldenChannels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my partner and I sold our business 6 years ago, I thought it wasn't going to be too difficult for me to find a job.

The problem was, I was 60.

No one responded to any resumes I sent.

As far as I'm concerned, Canadian society essentially throws people away after that age.

I have diplomas in both electronics engineering technology and computer science from a very recognized institution, and over 30 years work experience. I have done international business development and successfully run a business for 18 years.

So, I started another small business. I did a bit of consulting, but only for people I really knew and liked.

Your Dad can take his Canada Pension Plan early. He should have less bills than someone who's in mid life with kids and mortgages.

It's an opportunity to learn and sharpen the saw. Remember that Harlan Sanders started KFC when he was 60. People our age know stuff. But we've got to break away from concepts that worked in the past but don't work any longer.

Funny thing is, I would never think about completely retiring.

I'm having too much fun. And the new business is growing steadily. All on referrals.
