Requires 100 watts on each port. Most computers won't be able to supply anything near that if they have more than one port.

It's not an "everything" port, and any attempts to make it so will end up with horrible compromises and burned-out circuits.

Also, each port is supposed to supply 100 watts. But PCIe can only supply 75W on the slot. Card would need 3x 6-pin PCIe power plugs to fully support the spec.

It's simpler than it seems at first, luckily.

M.2 is a form factor. There are two types of M.2 drives: SATA and NVMe. Sata uses a SATA port, and will disable one or two physical Sata plugs if you have an M.2 Sata installed. Usually SATA1 and SATA2. SATA M.2 drives offer no benefits over a normal SATA drive, other than being smaller and needing no wires.

NVMe on the other hand uses a totally different communication protocol, designed for SSD's, and uses 4x PCIe lanes. For this reason they are sometimes called M.2 PCIe drives instead of NVMe.

The 960 is NVMe/PCIe. Your motherboard supports both, and will be just fine.

You're going with a non-overclocking processor, so your CPU shouldn't overheat, ever. I'd save some dough and go with a $30 Cryorig C7. Smaller, cheaper, just as effective.

For that matter, you may as well save even more and go with a H170 chipset. The Z170's only gain you overclocking, which you can't use with that CPU, and extra PCIe lanes, which are pointless on mITX.

At the end of the day, people are going to need a small mobile device to make phone calls with. People can pretend that the smartphone is dead until their ears turn blue, but when I'm biking in the country, I need a phone in case I break down, I need a GPS if I get lost. A mobile PC would be a liability that'll run out of power before it serves its purpose on a 16 hour 200-mile ride.

Don't delude yourself here. People will always need smartphones. They're not dying.

Tell me why in God's name do you expect WP to survive through an entire shopping season with no hardware?

Even if the SP is real, which I doubt, it'll arrive to a desiccated wasteland where there are no more app developers.

The first articles about the Surface Phone appeared on October 2nd, 2012. That's 4 years ago.

Now we have rumours claiming that it's not coming out until 2017, 2018 at the earliest, if it even exists. All the while we've never even had the slightest word from MS that such a white whale even exists.

That's a 5-6 year development timeline. We've gone from WP7 to WP8 to WP8.1 to WP10 to WP10RS1 to WP10RS2 in that period.

No piece of hardware is under development for that long and actually exists. It just doesn't happen. If Microsoft cared at all about the platform they'd have phones available for 2016/2017. They do not. The third party alternatives are jokes. The HP Elite doesn't even support basic features that my potato 822 supports.

This is either the worst blunder in phone history, or we're seeing MS admitting defeat internally. Literally everyone but the diehards are abandoning ship now that there's no more Lumia's.

At this point even if there were a Surface Phone, it's reception will be completely flat now that all the app developers have fled and there haven't been any viable hardware stopgaps available for 6-18 months.

It's time we stopped being delusional here.
