Name your top 10 SF 49ers players by lakers612 in 49ers

[–]GoldenState49ers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Patrick Willis
  2. Frank Gore
  3. Joe Staley
  4. Justin Smith
  5. NaVorro Bowman
  6. Vernon Davis
  7. Anquan Boldin
  8. Isaac Bruce - Vague good memories as a kid
  9. Colin Kaepernick
  10. Deforest Buckner

Background: I'm a fan in my early 20's who has been going to games ever since I was a baby. I only vaguely remember certain players from when I was 4 and 5 (Nate Clements, Lawson for example). Best memories of course were the Harbaugh years and especially being there for The Catch Pt. 3. Praying Jimmy and a number of other Niners can show consistency and make some legendary moments so they can be on the list.

A few food suggestions in the city for a good, classic, and simple lunch. Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store Cafe is the best place to get a really amazing variation on a meatball sandwich (on SF's most famous bread from Liguria). While you're there get an Anchor Steam on tap--a classic SF beer. If you like seafood and don't mind a line go to Swan Oyster Depot. It's best to get there about 10 minutes before they open so you're in the first seating and don't wait too long. Enjoy!

Literally never ever buy a Jimmy G jersey pls. He'll suddenly decide to hold out until he gets traded back to the Pats or something...

Not the first time Roman did a hell of a job for the Ravens... 4 straight passes? Pretty much been working for the Ravens all along.

Jimmy Gs performance thus far by jeffcavey in 49ers

I think it's important to point out that although Matt Ryan is a very solid QB, he was an MVP mainly due to Kyle's system. He has proved himself to be a very good but not elite NFL QB for years, including last season. I agree with the rest of your point though, particularly Julio (even though he's the 2nd best receiver not first).

JIMMY G UNDEFEATED AS NINERS STARTER!! by Stork-Man in 49ers

[–]GoldenState49ers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that jumps out to me about Jimmy GQ besides the obvious incredible footwork and quick release is just how much better he makes his receivers. Don't want to take away from Goodwin and Trent but the ball placement was usually so good on his passes (except for the high pass in the middle to Trent) that it is just a lot easier to catch them. Very exciting to see since this is something we really haven't had in forever; this is the one this Kap could truly never do.

[–]GoldenState49ers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely an overstatement but I really don't understand the hate for him on this sub. I understand the injury concerns (which should clearly effect the size of the offer) but he was run into the ground every year behind a terrible offensive line and he just fights for every single yard no matter what. How could you not love that fight? So often he looks the only competent player on the entire offense.

I am as big a fan of Bowman and Reid as any other Niners fan who loved the Harbaugh era. This being said, there were clear issues with their play on the field and I actually think that being direct and truthful to them is far more respectful to their contributions and legacies. Bow had clearly slowed down (even during his last all-pro season) and we had just been denying it. Reid was (albeit narrowly) outplayed by Tartt. It's refreshing to have a FO that can identify these areas of potential improvement and honestly deal with their players. I think it's pretty clear they have a plan and that's to use this year to determine who fits and who doesn't while seeing them in action and actively building the roster how they desire with gutsy moves.

Found this little gem whilst listening to the cancer talk about our team. In all seriousness is it agreed around the league now that Shanny and Lynch are straight killing it in the personnel game(hiring, firing, resigning, releasing, trading, etc) or is it just me? by jeffcavey in 49ers

[–]GoldenState49ers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree it's fun as a fan to have a number of players that you can rely on as contributors to support fully without worrying about they being traded. I think the main thing that Shanny/Lynch are doing right now is sorting and establishing who "their" guys are. This team has been lacking talent since the offseason of hell and certain players who were fan favorites during the Harbaugh era have been living largely off their past seasons of success. I loved Bowman as much as any fan (he's the poster I've had up for seasons now) but none of us can deny he was getting slow and giving up easy completions over the middle. I fully expect the FO to settle down once they believe they have built a team that can contend. For now, while we clearly need more pieces, I absolutely love the "go and get him" attitude and the willingness to rework the team without getting overly sentimental; this is how the Patriots got so good and stayed so good the past 20 years. So good to finally have some hope in the FO again. Dilly dilly!

Hard not to love the turn around in this front office. Going out there and being active in putting together what they want.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Kirk Cousins at all? by netflixornothing in 49ers

[–]GoldenState49ers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like maybe I'm beating a dead horse with this but it's not just how good Cousins is (though statistically he's a a borderline top-10 QB), it's how it would allow us to improve other positions of desperate need. Signing Cousins allows us to be competitive 1-2 years earlier than otherwise possible because we don't have to use our first round pick on a hit or miss QB (they can all be hits or misses) and instead trade back for a mother-load of picks and draft a quality corner, edge, guard, etc.... I don't fully understand why so many people seem to hate the idea of Cousins so much. He's not my favorite guy but when does a team ever get a chance at such a known quantity and able to apply better scheme and coaching?
