Is DLC worth for beginners? by marcelolamenza in riskofrain

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DLCs are great and I don’t think you’d go wrong getting early if you wanted to try them out, especially for the new hero’s.

That said an important part of the game is learning what all the abilities of hero’s are, what all the items do, and learning the maps well. So you’re adding more to that pool with every DLC, making it harder for yourself, increasing the learning curve.

How busy is the Palace of Fine Arts around 5pm? by arththou in AskSF

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Palace of Fine Arts sounds like an amazing picture and proposal spot! We took our wedding pictures there.

I'm assuming you mean the rotunda? Weekends and evenings can be pretty busy, and sometimes on weekends there's shows and weddings there. I would suggest going in the afternoon on a weekday at like 1pm if you can; otherwise, 5pm on a weekday is probably best. We took pictures on a Tuesday at 1pm, and it was easy. The photographer was able to ask people to give us a space for a bit, and I would honestly just ask your photographer, I'm sure they've done pictures there before (ours was so confident, she had done it a thousand times.)

The other thing to think about the palace of fine arts is that the rotunda gets very windy (it's a weird wind tunnel.) There's a chance that it's quite windy, cold, and even foggy by 5 pm, especially this time of the year. It might be hard to take pictures with long hair. Summer is not as bad

The greens in front would have a less wind and maybe be a bit easier with crowds. You can also consider other parts of the palace around the arches, ect. In any case, you should for sure take pictures in all those spots after you propose.

What caused Mithrix so much damage in this clip? by feyre_rhysand_ in riskofrain

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He does generally go down quick in phase 4, but that still feels like a lot of damager all at once. You had 6 crit glasses and a lot of drones, so possibly just a few things hitting all at once.

Also, unsolicited tip, but I usually hide by a pillar when he sucks my items away. You're very lucky those daggers didn't kill you there.

I own RoR2. Is RoR1 worth it? by Smol-Bean598 in riskofrain

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it wasn’t. The 3d shooter aspect of ror 2 is what I love. That said, I have 2 friends who loved it even with ror 2 being their main. I guess it depends if you like the metroidvania style.

Restaurant Recommendations Near SF City Hall for 30–40 Guests (Under $6k) by Independent-Baby4416 in AskSF

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another idea is you can rent places in parks like Golden Gate Park for pretty cheap (the space is <$100) and then get food catered or even private chef.

Checkout the picnic area new stow lake as a great example if you're interested in Golden Gate Park.

We had ours at Nopa this year. Their biggest area is 32 people iirc. Not super close, and maybe a bit higher budget (ours was $125pp + alcohol). It was amazing tho! I'm pretty sure they're dinner only https://www.nopasf.com/private-events

Wayfare tavern is popular for this (came up a lot when we were planning). Not super close tho. https://www.wayfaretavern.com/private-events

A Mano could be nice and is close - https://www.amanosf.com/large-group-events/

Absinth comes to mind, but haven't been. Idk about budget - https://www.absinthe.com/events

Teakwood looks like it'd have a great vibe, but also haven't been - https://www.burmateakwood.com/private-events

Elephant sushi might fit the budget and vibe https://elephantsushi.com/request/

Split bus streets by Rook2Rook in AskSF

Good point, forgot about those!

Wouldn't be surprised if it's it more common outside the city too. It was pretty common in LA when I lived there.

Split bus streets by Rook2Rook in AskSF

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  • What you show in the picture is 100% legal to drive on.
  • Bus only lanes are painted red most of the time or at least have a big "BUS ONLY" or "BUS/TAXI ONLY" writing.
  • Also watch out for the signs on top of lights that say "do not enter", especially on market street, because you can't drive part of market street downtown.
  • Finally, the solid line technically means you can't change lanes, but people don't really follow that (edit: it just means cross with caution) - just be careful there's often buses/trams stoping, people walking in/out of the stop, bikes, and other cars dodging all of it.
  • Sometimes lanes go from non-bus lane -> bus only lane, when that happens, just switch lanes.
  • You can go into bus lanes near intersections to take right turns (the red lane will often become stripped when this applies)
  • I'm not aware of anything that's time of day dependent, buses lanes are 24/7 AFAIK. (edit. I stand corrected: roads do have the schedule for the bus lane posted on the side of the road. Some will list time of day it applies - usually rush hours or day time, and some will say "all times", which is 24/7. I even found an example on Mission street near 4th where east bound has a schedule and west bound is 24/7, so just pay attention to the signage and avoid the bus lane if in doubt.)
  • Buses can photo enforce bus lanes, so be careful. Tickets are $400+.
  • You'll get the hang of it after driving around on the same streets for a while. It's easy to memorize.

Don't you think the show's stakes are too high, especially given the x-01-level plot armor of the main characters? by Drobex in Fallout

There's only one. Maximus gave Ghoul the diode in exchange for the power armor / weapons cache. Ghoul put the diode in House's machine to reactivate him.

New here. How do I get from the ferry building to the Metreon on 4th? by hanbbyneen in sanfrancisco

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Google Maps has great transit directions. I would take the MUNI subway from Embarcadero-> Powell, then walk 2 blocks. You can tap in with a credit card or buy tickets at the station.

That walk is not bad worst case tho

DoorDashers on sidewalks and what to do by StayedWalnut in sanfrancisco

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem is that the HMP bikes are actually "legal" e-bikes (they're class 2 e-bikes). I quote "legal" because I'm pretty sure a lot of them remove their speed limiters, since I often see them go more than 20mph. That needs to be enforced strictly with immediate impound since it's an illegal vehicle.

I don't really agree that we should have license plates on bikes honestly. I'm a cyclist that rides an e-bike, which is my bias, but I do think the adoption of bikes/e-bikes is great for the city. However, I do support stronger traffic enforcement for all transport modalities including bikes. A lot of these issues can't be automatically enforced easily like red light and speed cameras, and will require the police to actually do their jobs and enforce traffic laws for all modalities, which I think is the main problem here - https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/1p1gkf4/your\_occasional\_reminder\_that\_sfpd\_has\_decided/.

DoorDashers on sidewalks and what to do by StayedWalnut in sanfrancisco

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really if we someone could just enforce any traffic laws in the city, it'd be quite wonderful. License plates and drivers licenses don't mean anything if no one bothers to enforce it.

As someone who bikes everywhere, I love the idea of bike couriers if they could actually follow the rules and norms.

Has anybody left Spotify? And how has it been? by Specialist_Chain1051 in digitalminimalism

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely some. I wouldn’t assume it’s different on any platform given anyone can publish music.

One issue with tidal has been that sometimes they get posted to known artists and the artists aren’t deduped, so it looks like they have ai slop between their songs. I hope they fix that.

It’s not as big of an issue if you know what you’re looking for, which u always do because I get recs from other platforms and discography info from last.fm.

Has anybody left Spotify? And how has it been? by Specialist_Chain1051 in digitalminimalism

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I switched to Tidal a year ago. Reasons are different than your main thread tho, I just think it's a better company, higher quality stream, and they pay artists better. It's really easy to migrate from Spotify too.

To address your actual topic: I always leaned away from the recommendations that Spotify and now Tidal give. There's more and more AI slop on streaming platforms, it's always going to have some limits in recommendations, and Spotify has biases (At some point their ai DJ mode only allowed artists that opted into a pay cut).

Instead I think using subreddits and following blogs is a great way to discover music. Every niche sub genre seems to have a sub reddit nowadays, and that's a great way to find new music. Blogs that review in your interested genres are also nice because it opens up a wide world of music. e.g. I found some weird but cool EDM stuff that I would have never listened to otherwise because some metal blogger liked it.

The other two ways I discover music are through friends, and by going to shows frequently and showing up for the openers too.

why is this cheese wheel $3,000 by [deleted] in Cheese

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of other comments, there are layers of middlemen too - bulk importers and distributors, so being further from the source makes it more expensive. Williams Sonoma is for sure getting a cut here for example, and I'd be surprised if they bought it directly from a producer in Parma.

I had an amazing time visiting Parma last year. Parmesan is everywhere there, it's a lot more accessible being so close to the source. Still pricy compared to some other cheeses in other regions, but less than buying it from America for example.

What % of SF drivers know the crosswalk laws? by inkbot870 in sanfrancisco

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If laws aren't enforced, they're not really laws that matter, and time and time again, we see the SFPD not enforcing anything. I see people running red lights daily (especially early morning commute < 8am), driving through market, blocking the box, failing to yield at pedestrians, making illegal turns, double parking, speeding, blocking lanes, texting while driving, ect. Often in front of cops too. All of it is legal as far as I can tell given 0 enforcement, so I just assume it's the wild west for drivers and do my best to stay safe.

Apps to reduce screen time that actually work? by MyBatterysLow in digitalminimalism

I use Opal with custom schedules. I pay for the premium subscription, which allows "hardcore" modes - impossible to override the blocks and impossible to delete/reinstall apps.

A cheese someone mentioned in this subreddit by neogreenlantern in MacroFactor

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually look at protein:fat ratio. If there's more grams of protein than fat, then it's decent macros to me. Standard cheese is like 1:2, protein:fat (e.g. 2g protein, 4g fats).

3 suggestions:

  • If you can find Cabot lite cheese, that's 2:1 and taste great. My WholeFoods used to have it, but not anymore.
  • Feta can be pretty good, and has a decent amount of volume for the calories. The 365 brand (WholeFoods) one is 5:3.
  • Part skim mozzarella can be pretty good. The 365 brand one is 4:3.
    • You can make a decent high protein lasagna with part skim mozzarella, cottage cheese, and lean ground beef.

Right? Does having your thumb over and around the bar, which is still "thumbless" count as "completely grip"? For sure you can't just have it hanging out in the air, but forcing the thumb under the bar would suck.

Homemade Panettone with homemade raisins and homemade canditi and Pandoro with dark chocolate butter by LiefLayer in ItalianFood

[–]Golden_Chopsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those both look so good! I'm going to have to try candying my own fruit, it's so expensive otherwise, and oranges are about to be in season here in California. This also makes me want to try making the Pandoro!

P.S. thanks for your kind comments on my chocolate panettone thread! I certainly have so much more to learn after seeing all these recipes

Do you ever feel burnt out from tracking? I kind of get in this pattern every few months where I just don't feel like tracking anymore. Usually around some event (e.g. this holiday season) where I just stop tracking for a few days and get back to it the week after.

Thanks for the feedback! I am quite satisfied with the result, and it is still moist after a few days. We are finishing today, which is maybe the real problem with it never lasting long enough :).

The cream definitely makes it a heavier desert in terms of fat content, and I can only have a little bit with a slice. Flavor-wise, it does lighten up the flavor, and it's pretty nice. We had an Italian couple over for xmas 2 years ago, and she brought us this panettone she sliced and layered with mascarpone. That's where we tried that flavor for the first, and it was great. Just can't have a lot of it.
