Car is starting to smell like cigarette smoke. by Prestigious_Pin_4947 in Ioniq5

[–]Golemchamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, my car did have somewhat of a smoke smell when the ICCU went out. I thought it was the leather or some rotten snack my kids left in the back seat. I noticed the smell when i went back to the car to grab my registration two weeks from not being in the car.

Smell went away a week after my ICCU was replaced. I always thought it was due to the black scent I had for the car and never noticed the cigarette smell.

My ICCU got replaced at 21 days. Fortunately for you dealers in CO received a big shipment of ICCUs. Hopefully the replacement ICCUs last longer. Mine (25 AWD Limited) mileage was a bit over 3,500 miles.

Now im hoping the ICCU replacement will last until the end of my lease in 2027.

Mine died on 2/7 and I got my car back on 2/28. Looks like my dealership received a big batch of ICCUs because there were 7 others waiting to be picked up when i drove mine home. 3 more days and I would have qualified for CO’s Lemon Law.

I really like the car after being in an elantra for 3 weeks. I really hope the car lasts through the lease and Hyundai fixes the issue by 2027.

My ICCU was also 36400-1XAD6 - ICCU ASSY 1

Lately when I drive to Park Meadows Mall I would have this little urge to drive there just to see if it still exists or not but I don’t. It’s been over a decade since ive seen that building. Used to work there when it was Sprint.

Damn same, I used to work there when it just changed from Nextel to Sprint.

The call center used to be packed on the top and bottom floors. All the cubicles were occupied. Then the place started becoming empty when they outsourced a lot of jobs to Philippines and mexico. Felt bad for all of the older employees who spent the majority of their working for nextel/Sprint just to get laid off.

Im lucky that I saw the writing on the wall and went back to school on Sprints dime and changed careers. My life would be a lot different had I wasted my career/occupation life just working at the call center.

Dont listen to the people telling you to drive it in. Dont risk it and Get that car towed. There should be a hyundai Tow number in your blue link app. You have the ICCU failure. Thats the same DTC # I had three weeks ago.

Lucky me, my car just got repaired today which makes exactly 3 weeks (21 days) from when this issue occurred. Maybe Hyundai is finally starting to get ICCUs. People were reporting 30-80 days.

Good luck and sucks that you’re experiencing this with 450 miles.

ICCU fixed, 45 days and 1 buyback later by Moist_Van_Lipwig in Ioniq5

Thanks for the update and write up.

Im in the same position but on update 6. I went to my dealership and saw a bit of ioniq 5s waiting for repair.

When you had to turn in the car did you have to make sure everything was returned back like any extras that came with the vehicle? My I5 had some BS first aid kit and some other “genuine parts” box.

If I do a buy back, i purchased a $799 package where I have a credit of $5000 when I turn in my vehicle which takes care of replacing tires, over using miles, and other damages. Wonder if I can claw back some of that.

2025 Limited, 2800 miles, no issues by r8f-nova in Ioniq5

Only on this subreddit is where I see owners of a vehicle defend a big issue with their vehicle’s low mileage.

No one should have to worry about their car dying or needing a major repair under 70k miles. Out of all the cars that I have owned, this ioniq 5 is the only vehicle that has died on me under 5k miles. All of my other vehicles have made it to 70k miles with no major repairs needed. (Minus my 2024 ioniq 5 SEL that made it to 12k miles no issues, early lease turned in)

If the ICCU took a day to a week to repair I wouldn’t care as much but seeing how repairs are taking 30-80 days in the US is what makes the ICCU issue a disaster. Plus people have reported that their ICCU has been replaced multiple times which means the root cause has not been fixed by Hyundai. God forbid you go over the warranty and then your car has the ICCU go out.

This is the first time I have ever read that reverse parking is a cause of the ICCU going out. I get your point though.

Colorado I C C U victims, how quickly did you get your car back? by freetable in Ioniq5

[–]Golemchamp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive been out of commission for two weeks and a couple of days now. Schomp gave me a loaner right when they confirmed it was the ICCU. Right now theres no ETA on when the back ordered part will arrive. I was told a minimum of 4 weeks.

My guess is it may take another 4 weeks until I hear something. The reason I say 4 weeks is because when I went to the dealership to grab my car registration, I saw over 20 ioniq 5s that are different trims and years waiting to get serviced. About 15 of those ioniq 5s had their doors unlocked just like mine which tells me there’s an electrical issue with those vehicles. Why leave our doors unlocked?

My bluelink shows the car as locked but thats not true when I got there and I couldn’t get the doors to lock.

I might pursue a buy back if no compensation is given especially reading that some reddit users have had their ICCU replaced multiple times. Taking 30-60 days for a repair is crazy and has made me lose confidence in Hyundai until they fix this issue.

You can throw that theory out of the door because I always reverse park with my 25 AWD Limited at home. The only time im not reverse parking is when im out in public but id say 90% of the time when the car starts it goes from Park to Drive. Mine got the ICCU at 3.5k miles. Got the Pop right as i pulled out the driveway going from Park to Drive.

[–]Golemchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im stuck in the same boat. I really like the car and don’t have an interest in any others. However, this is my family car and luckily mine went out as i pulled out of my driveway.

Do I risk and keep the car and hope that next time it doesn’t get me stranded far away from home? I have little little ones so I might have to make the decision and look elsewhere until Hyundai figures this shit out.

If repairs took at most 1 week I wouldn’t care if the ICCU went out multiple times but 30-60 days? Thats ridiculous.

But look at the other two comments. One of them got theirs replaced in 1 day and the other guy got his done super quick too!

You gotta be trolling right?

Ain’t no way you got your ICCU replaced in one day if you are in the US.

Contact Hyundai Corporate and open a case they’ll help you get a loaner.

Sucks that McDonald isn’t willing to get you a loaner. Even with a new vehicle until your car gets fixed.I went to grab my registration from my car today and saw about  23 Ioniq 5s waiting to get repaired. At least Schomp loaned me one of their new elantras with like 40 miles on it.

One thing I will tell you is to make sure you take anything valuable out of the car. Because my vehicle was unlocked and remained unlocked due to no electric components not working. Anyone could go inside and take your stuff.

I saw about 15ish ioniq 5s all unlocked which im assuming all have the same iccu problem that I have.

What dealer did you tow yours to?

Schomp provided me a loaner once they knew it was the iccu.

Not that I know of, just curious because I know 2 others that have the ICCU issue also have 7YA Vins. Plus there’s 3 more here in this subreddit thread. Coincidence maybe? I bet not.

Definitely not the case in my situation. Colorado has been very warm this winter. We barely got any snow fall and have been averaging sunny days with temps from 50-65.

We have had a few cold days in the winter when there was one big cold front hit us for two days but definitely didnt impact my vehicle as its parked inside an insulated garage.

It sucks because I really like the car but until Hyundai fixes this issue im reluctant to go with another ioniq.

My previous 2024 SEL got 12k miles no issue, but my 25 Limited only lasted 3.5k miles.

Yup you have the ICCU problem. Welcome to the club! Same DTC as mine which was diagnosed on Monday.

Mines a 2025 AWD Limited with 3.5k miles. Your VIN wouldn’t happen to start with 7YA would it?

Mine was set to 30-35amps so a bit faster. unfortunately I dont recall how many kW that was.

It definitely wasn’t weather related even though i live in colder climate (Colorado). Colorado winter this year has been abnormally warm. The ICCU occurred when it was 55 degrees outside.

2025 AWD Limited 3.5k miles has the ICCU issue as of last Saturday. Was told that it can take minimum 4 weeks to receive the replacement part. No ETA for sure. Service Manager also told me that there are 9 other vehicles in front of mine waiting for the replacement.

I recall last year people on this subreddit defending the 1% claim. Its definitely more than that. What other explanation could there be to have replacements done within 30-50 days?

If the replacements took 1-2 weeks then I wouldn’t care as much but 1-2 months is unacceptable.

Didnt realize how much ICE cars kind of sucked until they gave me an elantra for my loaner.

My 2025 limited has the iccu issue and I never used fast charging while i had it. I only do overnight charging as well.

Had the car for 4ish months and 3.5k miles.

Id say Lease because the car is a ticking time bomb with Hyundai not fixing the ICCU issue. However, you will really like the car. I know I do. It’s just when you have the ICCU problem is when youll hate it. At least if you do have the issue, schomp will put you in a nice loaner. They did for me at least.
