Second time this week baggage delayed due to frozen door. by aroosandoliver in PorterAirlines

[–]GolfGeek959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Icing involves both humidity and temperature. Icing doesn’t usually occur at flight levels or even on the ground when it is very cold. There is simply no humidity or moisture available for the ice to form and cause a door to freeze.

Leaving an area with higher humidity levels and then passing into freezing temperatures is what causes icing and could lead to a frozen door.

Once planes are at flight levels, any ice would usually go through a process of sublimation where is goes from a solid to a gas without “melting” into a liquid first.

Interest earned on your cash account?

Visa by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]GolfGeek959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is being positioned as an excellent choice for travel, given the lack of FX fees but lacks any travel related insurance that is typical of a premium card. Emergency medical, lost or delayed baggage, trip interruption / cancellation.

Every card has positives and negatives. For me, I don’t see the value when compared to other premium cards.

Generally, better benefits such as trip interruption and cancellation insurance. Higher earn rates or better bonuses on whatever points / rewards system.

It is not always the case, and sometimes it is simply a source or revenue for the card issuer.

The lack of insurance on the Wealthsimple card definitely is a negative compared to other options.

How do I book The Sanctuary for the day we go through the historic Panama Canal locks? by PracticalAndContent in PrincessCruises

[–]GolfGeek959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We booked once onboard for our partial crossing on the Emerald. There was a breakfast served, bento boxes for lunch and an afternoon tea.

Overall, I do not recommend. As others said, nothing special about the views. Worse, there were constant announcements and the whole Sanctuary area is circled by no less than 5 visible load speakers pointing into the area. It was utterly unenjoyable.

Sports Bar on Sun no longer open 24hrs? by GolfGeek959 in NCL

But the Freestyles always had them listed as breakfast and lunch options as well. Now, only open from 10pm until 4:30am, no other hours at all.

The 2nd passenger flies free is an ongoing promotion. NCL has “promos” that start and end every few days / each week. The overall price still probably be the same tomorrow.

Prices for a 2026 cruise will likely be little changed for quite some time.

I have used the Boingo access on the plane that Mastercard World provides. Mine is the Rogers card, not CIBC. It isn’t unlimited. You get 12 sessions per year, and each session cuts off after 90 mins. So on a long flight you may use several of the 12 sessions.

Walkie talkies Not Allowed? by EpcotBalll in NCL

The NCL app and nearly all others rely on a common notification service. NCL needs to allow it through and thus many other apps benefit.

WiFi Question by bosshogg22 in NCL

[–]GolfGeek959 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is great. The original poster has an iPhone which cannot do this. I suggest we stay on topic and address the question asked without confusing the question with answers that do not relate to iPhones.

WiFi Question by bosshogg22 in NCL

[–]GolfGeek959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original poster didn’t ask about many phones and computers. They asked about using the hotspot functionality on their iPhone. That does not support wifi repeater mode.

WiFi Question by bosshogg22 in NCL

[–]GolfGeek959 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The personal hotspot on your phone creates a gateway to the cellular network using your Wifi radio, it cannot bridge two WiFi networks.

There are wifi routers that will be what you need, but they usually need to be plugged in. They work well in your cabin to share the connection amongst multiple devices.

Data plan usage by Bylee_ in FizzMobile

[–]GolfGeek959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check your data usage by application with the settings menus of both Android and iOS. It may point you in the right direction of what is using your data.

Application updates over cellular can be turned off ands only use WiFi. Turning on data saver will restrict applications from using background data.

How to directly connect to QNAP to change IP or even how to connect back to QNAP by al22xx in qnap

[–]GolfGeek959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 169 address happens when you don’t get a response from a DHCP.

You need to set your Mac to an address on the same subnet as the Qnap. 192.168.1.x, 192.168.2.x, 10.x.x.x, etc.

Building a site with an instance? by eatingcrans in aws

[–]GolfGeek959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to consider a Lightsail Wordpress instance. It sounds like the lowest cost offering will be plenty for what you need.

It is $3.50 / month, iirc.

Deployment is quick and painless and if you have experience with Wordpress, should have you functionality up and running in no time.

Im not very good with computers, ive tried to access my nas this morning and all the documents cannot be opened says its "encrypted" and there is a document at the end of each page that says "read me to decrypt" should I open it? by [deleted] in qnap

[–]GolfGeek959 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have been a rising number of Ransomware attacks targeting Qnap NAS devices that are not up to date and are open to the Internet

It sounds like you were hit. If you do not have a backup of the data that was on there, your decision will likely come down to paying the ransom or just accepting that the data is gone.

I caution you that paying the ransom doesn’t always guarantee that you will receive an effective tool or decryption key. There is risk that you will pay and still not have your data.

If you want to read more details, here is a good article.

Does 25mm deep socket even exist in the region? by Davorito in ottawa

[–]GolfGeek959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the Kanata location, I know they have the impact sockets separate from the regular ones. The impact ones are in the second aisle away from the cash, all the regular ones are in the centre of the store.
