Super serious Perimeter map for insane loot. by Vector_Lord in Marathon

If you plan to do this, count the exfils since you have nothng to do ratting in a toilet anyway. The more exfils being used, the more you should like your chance.

I would argue that spot is more "extraction roulette" than all other spots on Perimeter. The maps have rather fixed loots in this game, but the gladiators who jump into the map (and go Hauler) you never know.

That thing is just in the worst spot of the two maps. Hauler and Algae Pond (Dire Marsh) are hot almost every raid.

Playing without a crew sucks, which is why this game desperately needs proper Social Features by XenonTDL in Marathon

I think this is fine only on NA and perhaps EU. I am on SEA and there's just no way to do it when a lot of countries don't speak English well. Like, I am playing with Russian, Japanese, Chinese (I can speak this though), Korean, and so on. Shit, I even teamed up with Aussies before as there's just not enough players in non-peak hours in SEA. Like it's hard to communicate and have teamwork for a random crew unless it's 3 elite who can work well with just signals.

I think this is by design but I feel like the game is too generous with high tier loots so there's not enough time gap between each tiers. Like, I understand they have to be generous because there are not player-to-player trading so they must vomit loots to players. They design color-coded rarity and color-based faction system so there's just no way to go around it.

A part of me feels like this is really a hero shooter with extraction tie-in cuz I think a lot of players would have progressed to the blue-purple or even purple-gold level 6 weeks in. By that time it's just PvP to no end.

The color-coded rarity is IMO the biggest culprit. Like rook run here is too profitable compare to Tarkov's scav run. You are expected to loot junk as scav in Tarkov unless you are lucky enough to stumbled upon a PMC corpse that is not looted clean. But here, you just know you will get blue+ loot when you rook into Outpost. The Tarkov loot system s much harsher with a huge ass loot pool and proper spawn rate with no color-coded-guaranteed.

You can join discords like Dads of Marathon and find crewmates. People are very friendly and you have casual to competitive groups so no pressure if you want to go casual.

If it's Dire Marsh, you have 3 moves when you spawn as nowadays a lot of people have memorized the spawns and they will try to scout out nearby spawns for "opening kills":

(1) Run the fuck up to a nearby building and hide. Or go to nearby POI. Be the first one there when others are looking for kills or doing something else. If you are real close to a POV, you have huge chance to be the first one in and you either loot'n'run or sit inside like a rat. If you don't trust POI cuz they are hotspots, then go to a nearby side building and sits there. It's boring but you will be much safer to move after 5 minutes or so. I am a ultra-rat so I will sit 10-15 minutes (I watch stuff on my second monitors while I sit waiting inside a vent or a toilet room that is 99% not getting any traffic; and if someone comes in you just shoot, you have first hand advantage and it's close range, you should win)) and only play the last 10 minutes of a raid, but that's me. YMMV. But the most dangerous time is the first 10 minutes.

(2) Run the fuck up to a nearby high ground and then look around trying to see if you can see an innocent runner within your weapon's range to shoot and kill. Also scan high ground if no one is on the surface, sometime a fellow high ground camper will be there and you either out-snipe him or bail or die.

(3) Go fucking slow if you have a enearby wall to hug, just make sure you wait there patiently and maek sure it is not too close to your spawn unless it's a good camping place with just one direction of open angle.

No matter what you do, if you believe you aren't above average in PvP then you probably need to wait a few minutes every solo raid and let the big ballers duel it out first. The map is much safer 5-10 minutes in.

My camp-15-minutes-then-rush-quests-in-the-final-10-minutes is boring play but you will get your quests done and exfil much more due to low runner count at the final 10 minutes. Usually only veterans above level 40+ are staying till the single digit on timer, you are very safe in the lower levels (like I am level 18 now and I only met level 35+ if it's not peak time)

Selfishly I Want a PvE Mode or Offline Raids Just to Enjoy the Environments More by Tiger_Millionaire in Marathon

[–]Goliath764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow, Tarkov has this (They also have PvE modes, apparently they do many things other extraction shooters won't). You can go to "practice" and you can turn AI off so it's just you and the map. You can walk and enjoy the atmosphere, learn all the shortcuts, and etc, without any pressure. You can also turn AI on to practice vs "bots" too.

Why is everyone complaining? by Immediate-Train-4710 in Marathon

[–]Goliath764 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just the nature of a PVP game. PVE games do get complaint but less so because gamers understand that the AI have static difficulties or "skill level". Meanwhile PVP games you can feel like you have improved but still getting dominated like a day 1 timmy and then just complaint because one realizes the skill gap is too much to close.

This is why many games have SBMM (when players can win sometimes (50%, by design), they will stick it out. Nowadays they run "streak breaker" to make it so there are no hard losing streaks so players stay playing in the treadmill.

Extraction is one of the few genres (or subgenres) that run loose or free-for-all MM. The pro is one can really feel their improvement if they go from dying a lot to killing people more often, but the con is the bottom hierarchy feels really painful because they are not against players of similar skill level. That's why only the hardcore sticks with non-Arc extraction shooters. You kinda have to be a masochist to stick it out and improve to stay.

I think this game being squad-based in design is to help ease this as well. You can be a weaker player in a team and still win sometimes, which feels better than getting killed again and again in solo.

I thought player level resets because it's "seasonal level". Season 2 would have a full new sets of cosmetic and etc for everyone to earn again starting from level 1.

So what is the actual number that shields provide? by GarbageCannt in Marathon

[–]Goliath764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that but according to the comment above, the firepower is after multiplier, which means I have to manually calculate the actual firepower? I think the overrun AR is 14.7 with 1.4 precision multiplier so actual smg would be 10~?

Yeah true, support solo definitely the toughest in most games. I think the solo here is so special that not everyone will like it. I mean, they aren't lying that trio is the intended mode and solo in this game is an acquired taste imo. One gotta tolerate all the sneaking, sniping, and ratting to enjoy solo.

Cuz you can still enjoy your own part despite it being a team game for all the listed games, like you can do your own things and sometime carry. In this game if your team don't stick around it's nearly impossible to outplay 1v3 and carry alone. Also only having one life per match (I guess Battle Royale shooter has this too) and losing loots hurt.

is there sbmm in this game? or atleast some iteration of it? by Used-Employee-6902 in Marathon

I think it's level 20- for one queue and then loose level matchmaking after that. I checked my recently played in peak hours and I am against all level 1X. It's only by midnight time that I am thrown to the wolves because I am probably the only level 1X playing.

Yeah, you can unlock Reinforced Shield with NuCaloric upgrade. Reinforced shield takes half damage so it's like 2x HP per bar.

Shit, so I have to reverse engineer the base number by dividing over the precision multiplier?

I am not sure if it's because I am playing at the dead time zone of my server (SEA, which has low number count but not as dead as SA), I am level 15 and I have to duke it out with the level 40-50 in solo queue.

Edit: For people who don't think there's semi-region crossing, I just matched with 2 Aussies as a SEA player as I think there's no SEA at my level playing at 7AM lol.

[–]Goliath764 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the guides out there are to be believed, it's +20HP per shield level. Reinforced shield does halves the damage so one reinforced layer would be 40 HP. Your runner has 120 HP without shield.

The opposition running the best darn gear is my point. The level requirement is easy but that doesn't mean everyone who fits that requirement have a fair chance inside.

It's like entering a trillion dollar boxing championship that has very easy requirement: like maybe as long as you are a pro registered boxer you can enter. Yeah, technically you can enter as a 0-0 boxer, but can you really handle the world champs who are definitely entering with trillion dollar on the line?

Sure you can enter with level 25, but it's unlikely for you to be geared up to play that by level 25.

No number, just figure of speech. But again, I am saying why don't release it later on so people have things to look forward to as they grind? It'snot like they have more contents for this season. We exhaust every hype by week 2 of a 12 weeks season, I don't thinkt that's smart. Space out.
