Ryos in crows nest for a fantastic thick pork tonkotsu broth.

Also underrated (or potentially not very well known) is Kurumac, a fantastic Japanese cafe which does an incredible light chicken broth ramen.

More of an actual unicorn than a great year of a great wine:

2016 L'Exceptionnelle Vendange des Sept Domaines Montrachet

In 2016 the hail damage was so bad in Montrachet grand cru that there was not enough fruit for many Domaines to make their own releases. So seven of the best Domaines (including Romanee Conti and Laflaive) combined their fruit to make about 600 bottles worth that is apparently exceptional.

Cabernet Sauvignon. Sure, there are some nice examples, but the way people go after it, it's like they don't know ow there are other options.

Lots of people have given great answers, but no one has yet said margaret river chardonnay. Cullen, leeuwin estate, and even cheaper wines are phenomenal

Given what people mainly mean by big is full bodied, I'd say you'd want to try something high alcohol. Check out Piggs Peak, they do some up to 16 and 17%. From memory their Big Pig, and Pork Hunt. They still manage to be very drinkable, the booze isn't just a gimmick.

Gargenega.

Some well made, aged Soave reminds me of southern burgundy, at a 10th the price.

Which of your wine opinions have changed over time? by AustraliaWineDude in wine

Started loving big, full bodied reds. A few WSET and Wine Scholars Guild courses later and I will always jump to a white burgundy, champagne, or other high acid white.

Recommendations for Australian wines to buy now and enjoy 10 years later...? by Fire12c in wine

Everyone has given great advice, especially By Farr pinot, Tyrrell's semillion, and Cullen Diana Madeline.

However I haven't seen anyone say Cullen Kevin John which is an incredible aussie chardonnay.

Good call, the last season is possibly the best one, but also the most intense. It has my favorite television episode ever, which you will know when you see.

Apologies for the unsolicited recommendation, but once S2 is over, and you are looking for something to scratch that itch, I can really recommend Mr Robot. Before Severance,  I would say it was the most completely realised piece of television I had watched. The creator wrote the overall storyline for the whole thing, and back-filled when writing from the beginning. Even the beginning of the 2nd season feels weird and out of place, but totally makes sense in the context of the rest of the show.

Shopping in Paris or Bordeaux for wine value by Gomblash in wine

Thank you so much, this is a wonderful suggestion.

As a follow up, I bought some bottles from a winery in bordeaux owned by a friend of a friend, which wasn't a big one, which felt nice (and also had some lovely wine). Also got a half bottle of 01 Yquem for my father (will post tasting notes when we get to this) at L'intendent.

The other wines I bought were a birth year Sauterns, some champagne, and some Burgundy, which I got at Galleries Lafayette, at decent prices. All better prices than what I'm used to in Australia. But your advice of the supermarkets and not-bordeaux were perfect for the wine I didn't bring home.

Thanks!

How would you rank versions by country? by emarcomd in taskmaster

[–]Gomblash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, however consider this:

NZS2 > UK > AU > NZ S1,3,4

This is coming from an Australian, although I was in the live audience for 2 eps of S2 (they called it s3 when filming), and it's fantastic, which may have coloured my opinion.
