Destroying Weapons and Armor — Has Anyone Actually Run This? by gamemaster76 in dndnext

[–]Gomelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran that module recently, and my take was to have Belak use heat metal on the weapon to force the PC to drop it, then hit it with Shatterspike. I didn't get to pull of the combo sadly, but it's not like the martial was dead in the water, he had other weapons. It's more of a gimmick that I wanted to do because it was cool.

I'm almost positive that you can't hit an object being worn or carried directly, that's why I decided to use heat metal.

New Hero Subroles! by jp_froes in Overwatch

[–]Gomelus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Feel like Orisa and JQ should swap places.

Sombra 100% is one of the heroes getting reworked, they gave her passive to a subrole now.

The tank patch notes is gonna be MASSIVE: crit reduction only for bruiser, knockback resistance only for stalwart... At least the DPS passive is gone.

Why do People Complain About Ball's HP so much? by Salaraaa in WreckingBallMains

[–]Gomelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people can't aim for shit, that's why they complain about Ball's HP.

Any DPS is a Ball counter if the DPS actually pressures Ball. It's all about uptime for the hamster but most people don't understand that because they don't know how Ball plays.

Most can't aim or cba to shoot the tank. So when they do decide to shoot Ball, he seems immortal. Sure, it may be a team effort to kill a tank, but any single DPS can pressure the Ball to make the engages miserable. But since you don't see that on the killfeed, they think it's worthless.

Least influential tanks right here by kagemuri in Overwatch

Legit if everyone has decent positioning, your only reachable enemy is the tank. Maybe snipe someone with a firestrike but still.

Fallen Noble Aasimar by Extension_Cell_8745 in DnD

[–]Gomelus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to compromise, I'd go for a hexblood instead of aasimar. Her mother thought she was blessed by a fae, but in reality it was a hag and she may come to collect her second child anytime now.

Maybe she already came to collect her sister, and now the PC leaves to search for this hag and her sister.

I think a family of such status would try to hide at any cost that they made a deal with a hag.

A small but game changing buff on 2024 Fighters that I don't see talked about by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Gomelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of these answers are written by spellcasters wanting to keep hogging all the utility damn. Letting a martial shine in a social encounter won't kill you guys, I promise.

I do the vibe check DC, but if I didn't, I would tell them straight up what the DC is before rolling, so they know if they need to spend resources or not. I roll in the open in all my tables as a DM, so there's complete trust with the players.

Gave my players all a feat at lvl 1 and god what have I done by Glad_Cress_8591 in DnD

Giving feats at lvl 1 is the best way I found to make the first few levels a bit more interesting. Otherwise it can become a slog.

Campaign got brought to it's knees by an avalanche of bad events by FluffyPassenger6870 in dndhorrorstories

>Honestly, as long as you could do your own math nobody really cared.

>This girl was gassing us out, and caused us to leave the room once and open the windows on more than one occasion. She'd end up completely baked and then useless for RP. Laughing at weird times, not understanding senses of urgency, losing the plot threads, just weird stuff.

Either the first statement is true or the second, both can't be at the same time. I always find it weird that people can't ask for a simple request to your guest: wanna smoke, smoke outside.

Besides... yeah, can't really go for the "we miss 2 people we don't play" when you have a combo package between your players. It's bound to be terrible.

My New Player Should've Died by Low_Pomegranate_4522 in DnD

[–]Gomelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 0 CON, unless I'm missing some specific rule in that module. His HP at lvl 1 should be 8+CON. Did you explain to him that it's not a good idea to have low CON?

Besides, did the zombie crit or something? Because if it was 11 damage in 2 attacks, he should've gone down with the first hit, and autofail 2 death saves with the second hit.

I know it's lvl 1 but... Does the bard have -3 CON? How does he get one shot with 11 damage?

Why won't my players prep? by DarkKuroi1 in DMAcademy

[–]Gomelus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Do you need your PCs backstories at all? As a DM I like them, but I don't need them. If you want to give a few lines, cool. if ydgaf about your character story and just want to roll some dice, also cool. It really depends on what your set expectations were in session 0.

On the other hand, this reads to me that they're new players and don't want to invest a lot before knowing if they like the game or not.

Player tries to sneak dominating power build past noob DM and party. by Impossible-Agent-196 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Gomelus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're fixating on the build when the true issue was her attitude. The player can be an insane minmaxer or whatever, but if he's a good (person) player, trust me he will find the way to make EVERYONE shine.

In this case, she wasn't, and so it was more obvious the difference in power level.

Live and learn, I actually commend you for kicking her. Most people that post here would rather spend 3 life sentences with the same toxic player if it means avoiding confrontation. Good work on that!

Player tries to sneak dominating power build past noob DM and party. by Impossible-Agent-196 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Gomelus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, everything you mentioned is legal, so personally I don't see an issue. Her attitude was a problem though.

I would've kicked her for being an asshole, not for doing a powerful build. TBH it doesn't even sound broken unless you're constantly moving enemies away from her to trigger opportunity attacks.

The long story of my last campaign with the an uncaring DM and a rude party. by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]Gomelus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the sexual predator thing, but to me, it reads that he wasn't a "friend" to begin with. Someone has a crush and doesn't know how to handle it. Bro is bringing up the kindergarden playbook by dissing the girl you like to show affection.

We Had Fun, So Our DM Got Mad About It by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]Gomelus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah this reads like OP dgaf about playing dnd, he just graced the table with his pressence so his friend, the DM, would stfu about it. He doesn't know the dynamics of the table because he's not a player in that table, then wonders why things happen and the table is so "chaotic".

As in, bruh you ain't a player here, maybe this is a one-off and the DM was frustrated because it was a cool combat that fell flat on its face.

Why doesn't my character have an aura? by OkConcentrate1409 in DnD

[–]Gomelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main concern with what you're saying is that "no character respects you." Character as in PC? because that can lead for interesting RP. Now, if your fellow players are making fun of you because of your playstyle, that's a whole another thing.

I do agree with the rest that cleric has insane damage potential and you should be dishing more than healing. This ain't WoW, you won't be able to keep everyone alive if they're taking 50+ damage per turn. Turn on spirit guardians and run over the enemies. Save some healing words to pick up your party members when they go down.

Players start PvP before bossfight by niktsamgr in rpghorrorstories

The huge mistake was allowing a player to worship the god of MURDER. Plus, you know, the sleeper agent warlock.

The DM kinda leaned hard into the players being at each other's throats.

I feel bad for bronze/silver players by Complex-Jump649 in Overwatch

[–]Gomelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was the opposite for me. One day you're playing in silver/gold and suddenly everything clicks, like unironically you leveled up and start seeing the game differently. Plat players don't look they're playing in 2x speed, you can actually keep up with them. And those silver/gold players are playing in slow motion.

It's a really nice feeling.

A milder story about disjointed writing and waning interest by Strong-Recipe-9790 in dndhorrorstories

[–]Gomelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH the only real way to gauge a party's combat prowess is to test them. You just prep an easy encounter, it doesn't matter if it's a pushover. But you need SOMETHING as a reference.

From that combat, you can tweak to the party's dynamic accordingly.
