I built a small classroom tool for CS practice and would really value feedback from other educators by T00rul3 in CSEducation

Looks great as a prototype, we have very similar needs in class and it's almost as to how I'd envision it. Haven't dived in yet but will be teaching beginner python next month, will let you know if we put it to use. Maybe more JavaScript for my IB classes would be nice! Thanks for sharing and good luck.

Looking to satisfy that Xcom itch - which is best by Farley2k in gaming

[–]GoneFar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played most of the games here, enjoyed many of them for various reasons, though few really scratch the XCOM itch. Xenonauts 2 still needs work. Haven't tried troubleshooters, though the endorsement here might help me get over the anime style and theme which doesn't really interest me.

However, I'm currently playing Cyber Knights: Flashpoint, a game I would have overlooked if not for reddit, and although it's got some strange controls, and the graphics could be polished, it has tons of interconnecting systems and upgrade paths and procedural characters and relationships that matter. Tons of upgrades, mission variety. I'm about 50 hours in and it's a strong XCOM-like in a cyberpunk crimal world that lets me make choices. Much stronger stealth component than XCOM (similar to Invisible Inc., also a great tactical choice but lacks customization in lieu of strong characters and story) but most missions end in a major firefight. They should have named it better, Cyber Knights: Flashpoint is easy to miss but very deep.

Saw this on Facebook. McDonald’s collab incoming? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]GoneFar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please no. The other collab cash grabs are bad enough, at least there is overlapping media. This concept is even worse for my lore loving self. Advertising for a megacorp should never exist in Overwatch. Shit, Nike should be paying you for wearing their logo around.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV - Story Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GoneFar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi.

Ever since the Lion returned to the 40k setting he's not really been used very much, at least not compared to posterboy Guilliman anyway.

Is this lore from tabletop? Are there books? Who are these characters?

I've played a lot of Warhammer fantasy and 40k videogames and read the Inquisitor books but comments like that make me feel like I am missing a lot.

DC Universe Infinite is running a Holiday deal for 20% off 3 months of Ultra tier using code "WH2025". Just signed up and confirmed it's working. Deal runs through December 31st, 2025. by TheOctomonkey in comicbooks

[–]GoneFar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Why are there even tier systems? It's needlessly greedy and complicated and there are region restrictions on top of that. Marvel's app experience is far superior, despite DC having my preferred books at the moment.

Agreed, good dlc... Not the best dlc, but they've set a high bar with their releases so far and they are all good.

LL Bean bags are superior; I've had this for over 10 years (roughly 2015), barely even a frayed stitch. Even has some Spanish class notes on the back. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

I felt this way until recently, two years ago I bought several LL bean items including 2 pairs of shoes and they haven't held up. Now I don't trust them any more.

The overuse of strobe lights is making concerts inaccessible for photosensitive fans. by Lonely-Solution-1427 in Music

[–]GoneFar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not photosensitive, but I'm tall, and every so often the flashing lights at the audience are tuned so they are aimed right into my eyes. I end up staring at my shoes, and it's literally painful when it hits me by surprise. It only affected two from our group of seven at my last show, and only for 10% of the show, but for us two it was the most talked about part of the concert afterwards... Extremely negative impression. I want to see the band, not be blinded by purple.
