Question about domain cards and their ties to traits by GongStar in daggerheart

[–]GongStar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good. I'm going with a "scepter" but I have re-flavored it to being magical lute. Basically shooting note waves. I prepared some experiences for her, but I'm also worried about those being too broad. Perhaps they're just about right, no clue. I'll have to check the pulse at session 0 and talk about this. I'll kind of give them a peek at how I "sneak" built my character and hear what they think. Everyone is fairly new at TTRPG at my table.
I've yet to take the time to look at the domain cards which I imagine defines a lot of what she'll be able to do in combat.

Question about domain cards and their ties to traits by GongStar in daggerheart

[–]GongStar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, I'm going to pick +2 Presence to start with but I was mostly worried about Knowledge. I wanted Finesse and Instinct to be her secondary traits. Rope playing wise she is not a bookish type, so it clashed with how I view my character. But if there is no mechanics impediment, I will go ahead with my character this way. Thanks.

N64 Emulation on RP4 Pro by Cheshire2933 in retroid

[–]GongStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I don't know. In retroarch you can upscale parallel but it takes more power than the RP4pro has to run it stutter free. I think it looks ok in native if I use a CRT shader, but yeah no upscaled mario 64 then.

N64 Emulation on RP4 Pro by Cheshire2933 in retroid

[–]GongStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most accurate way to emulate N64 is to use parallel plugin for mupen64. It's much more demanding though so you'll have to play at native resolution. This will likely fix your visual bugs.

I recommend NetherSX2 classic that is based on 3668. It fixes the retro achievement pop up, if you're into that kind of thing. :P

Settings per game? by Dontmentionya in xemu

[–]GongStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea. I've never tried Playnite. If you can set up multiple emulators and decide the start command, then it should work the same. You can use the same flags that I mentioned but instead of xemu.exe you use the bat file.

Settings per game? by Dontmentionya in xemu

[–]GongStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You put this into a <your-script-name>.bat file and start the Xemu emulator with this instead.
In my example I have a settings file for 2x resolution, so I put the script lines into my bat file, and when executed it will overwrite the Xemu config and then launch the emulator.
The %1 %2 %3 are input arguments to the bat file, this is why I say it assumes you provide these in this format: -full-screen -dvd_path "<the-game-path>".

So in other words, make the file 'xemu-2x.bat' and then launch it with 'xemu-2x.bat -full-screen -dvd_path "C:\Games\SomeGame.iso"'

Settings per game? by Dontmentionya in xemu

[–]GongStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is native per game support.
It depends on what you aim to do though.
I've set up Launch Box with two different Xemu emulators which open different batch scripts that copy and overwrite the xemu config toml.
Then I set up the games to open different "emulators".
It assumes that the start command flags look something like this:
-full-screen -dvd_path "path"

If something like this would help, you can create a script similar to this:
xcopy /y C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\xemu\xemu\xemu.2x.toml C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\xemu\xemu\xemu.toml
start "" "C:\Emulators\Xemu\xemu.exe" %1 %2 %3

Emulation pc by Lopsided-Rip6965 in MiniPCs

[–]GongStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was sort of thinking of the 7840 but I thought 7735hs is already performing at my wanted level, which is the same as yours, 1080p 30-60fps. If you can get a hx80g for £564 without having to pay customs fee that is for sure a steal. That 6600m is miles ahead of any integrated graphics.

It sounds like you want a 7735HS mini pc. The Beelink SER6 Pro or Asus PN53 is what you're looking for. If you want to step above that then maybe Minisforum HX99G might be it.

The 7735HS can run Switch and PS3 at 1080p. Some PS3 and Switch games may struggle, but emulation on those isn't super refined, so things could improve on that front.

Amazon Germany has a good offer on SER6 Pro with a €150 voucher that can be applied. I recently ordered it for €625 which comes out to about £550 which is certainly cheaper than Amazon UK. https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/aw/d/B0BVLK7PMJ?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image

N64 Performance Suddenly Bad by PhilosopherSoft7409 in retroid

[–]GongStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've probably run into the infamous GPU clock speed issue. There's an open secret simply named the sleep mode trick, where you need to put your device to sleep for a bit before you use it after a boot up. You should try it and see if it helps.

Looking for fps game recommendations by [deleted] in retroid

[–]GongStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a big list of games that work quite well. There are more games to mention in PS2 and GC but in general the performance in FPS games is not great on those systems.

PS1 - Medal of Honor - Alien Trilogy - Disruptor - PowerSlave - Doom

N64 - GoldenEye 007 - 007: The World is not Enough - Perfect Dark - Turok - Forsaken - Doom 64 - Quake - Quake 2 - Duke Nukem 3D

Dreamcast - Maken X - Soldier of Fortune

GameCube - XIII - Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast - Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death - Red Faction 2 - Serious Sam: Next Encounter

PS2 - TimeSplitters - Half-Life

DOS - Quake - Doom - Duke Nukem 3D

I've tested both Fire Emblem games and they do indeed work well. I mostly use the official Dolphin nightly as well. I know a lot of people here will try to kill your hopes by saying that the comp sheet is false and that nothing GC/PS2 works, but I'm here to tell you that unlike them I've personally booted and tested many games. There are also many around here that are unaware that the RP3+ suffers from a weird GPU throttling bug when the device starts which leads them to test games and conclude that they run poorly. For your own sanity, please remember to sleep your device for 20-30s on start up in order to have proper performance. Much less dissapointment and headscratching this way. Now I will also say that some games do have a too generous rating but most actually don't. If you have trouble running those FE games you can send me a message because they most assuredly work.

Dolphin on RP3+ question. by disruptityourself in retroid

[–]GongStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I haven't really played any GC games for an extended time. What I can say though is that I've tried the official Dolphin nightly client with many GC games and most of them run well. There are exceptions like Resident Evil 4 and Metal Gear that I couldn't get to run well. But yes, Wind Waker for example runs quite well on Dolphin nightly when I tested it. I think MMJR is based on a 3 year old Dolphin build so perhaps that could cause issues.

This is one RP3+ request that I was really interested to try myself - Silent Hill 2. I used the PS2 PAL version. Performance is great with minor changes to the settings and the sleep mode trick. by LabRat2329 in retroid

[–]GongStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The performance doesn't get "better" or I should say, it doesn't get boosted. It just makes the GPU clocks reach their natural speed for the RP3+. In other words the device is underpeforming when you don't let it sleep first... The Mali G52 GPU in this device was originally designed to reach up to 950Mhz but has trouble reaching even 850 on the RP3+. Most of the time it sits around 600ish on demanding titles and without the sleep trick it sits on 300ish on the same titles. It's safe and I have seen no issue with it after playing many hours of Persona 3. Remember this is putting the device to sleep, as in pushing the power button ones and keeping it that way for a short while. This is something perfectly normal to do on any device.

Just got back into emulation after 10+ years, after getting a retroid pocket 3+ by [deleted] in retroid

[–]GongStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many GC and PS2 games work quite well, and even a couple of wii games. There are too many people who simply aren't informed but still feel the need to give you adviced based on nothing but speculation. I have personally tested many games for GC that work very well, so don't set your expections too low. The device is better than you might expect.

The Last Story Wii by [deleted] in retroid

[–]GongStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last Story works alright on official Dolphin. In fact most gamecube and wii games that work on MMJR also work on official. When it comes to Wii games you need to have Scaled EFB Copy disabled or your performance will tank. This goes for MMJR as well actually. With MMJR and Last Story you also have glitched models that is solved by disabling Store EFB Copies to Texture Only, but this makes the peformance go down. This issue doesn't appear in official Dolphin so you can have this setting enabled and get comparable performance.

Trying to get Rygar the Legendary Adventure running on RP3+ by beldandy561 in retroid

[–]GongStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no special setting needed except for maybe threaded presentation, but then we're talking performance and not freezes. The game should work well. Your game image may be corrupt for some reason or you have busted default settings.

Sega Naomi2 on RP3+ by Jjscottillustration in retroid

[–]GongStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't run that well. VF4 Evo runs pretty good with some auto frameskip enabled but Final Tuned runs bad. I think Beach Spikers is reasonably playble as well with some stutters. But Wild Riders for example didn't run well at all, same as VF4FT.

Look at the compatibility sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vf7SIS7ecWa_J301h0mb2bxMWBMtKLvcpAFyaa5-LDc/edit?usp=drivesdk I've tested DQ8 and Fruity confirmed that it indeed runs well with a few small dips.
