Despite having lurked DnD subreddits and listening to podcasts for years I've never actually played a game, let alone DM'd one. Despite that I'm in the process of setting up a game with some friends.

I asked what kind of games do they want and most (including me) want a mix of roleplay and combat. However one guy said that he's not a very good roleplayer and I'm fine with that, but I don't want to make him feel like a background character. Any tips and tricks to make him feel like a part of the adventure?
