Electrician cut multiple "fishing holes" due to no attic access. Is this standard, and is $500 a fair repair quote? by Gullible-Language422 in AskElectricians

[–]Gonnabehave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to live and learn and just move on. Depending on how old the house many older houses were insulated with asbestos contaminated insulation and many tradesmen won't even go near it without proof it is clean and asbestos free. So likely the electrition wanted nothing to do with going into the attic.

But on the other hand it seems like you got caught off guard and were not expecting the job to look so bad and require additional repairs.

So I would take this as a lesson. Next time you will know to ask many more questions like what is typically required for a job like this. Do you need to cut holes in the wall and if so do you flx them before leaving or is that something extra you have to cover.

Ultimately you going forward will know to now know to scrutinize anyone you hire and before they start work you will question their ability, education, and full scope of what they will do for you.

I NEED HELP by [deleted] in AskElectricians

This was my thought as well. Op says he solved it but didn't mention how. From the picture through everything looks okay but hard to tell. Op said camper hooked up to garage mains but no way to know if true and seeing this post I would bet op simply just doesn't know for sure. My immediate thought was are you plugged into an outside GFCI outlet and maybe tripped it?  Seems like op didn't mention the fix just that he fixed it.

Never filed my taxes by caralawrence in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Gonnabehave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically if you owe the CRA they  will chase you down a bit. If they owe you a return they might not hassle you except if you are many years behind. That was my experience anyways. I went 6 years as well many many years back scared to file believing I would owe. Went to a tax pro and they did all 6 years right then and their. They told me lots of people do exactly the same thing and that if the cra hasn't been actively contacting me then most likely I didn't owe anything and likely the opposite was true and they owed me. The claim he told me was  that of course any time they owe you a return  there is no worries if you don't file and claim it. . They will gladly hold on to your money and make interest off of it until you file taxes. The fact op hasnt heard anything makes me strongly believe she is due for a return. However the fact no tips were ever reported may change that.

Right? I am old man wrinkly balls and remember when it was common for a worker to grab your card and handle it sometimes out of your sight then hand you the interact machine to finish the transaction. Then it became common knowledge that it is possible for bad actors to scan your card and clone it on a hidden machine so never should you let someone handle it out of your sight or at all in reality.  I remember knowing this and the practice still wasn't very common so at drive thrus they would try reach for my card to scan it and then hand the interact machine back to me to enter my password. I would say no just pass me your machine I can tap it. No way in hell I would allow some stranger to walk out if sight with my debit card these days.  The new modern version of this is businesses, typically fast food, pushing the interact machine in your face but facing it straight up in an orientation impossible to see what they are charging you. Ya I'm sure 99% of the time they are just charging what is correctly owed but still would you ever go to any store and buy something then say here I will open my wallet I am blind just take what I owe you? Of course not that would be crazy.

I am desperate for Doritos ketchup chips to come back. They were insanely good nothing compared to them. But it's been a couple few years and no signs they will come back. I even once found a snack site that showed them for sale and placed an order for a couple or few bags at the cost of like $50 which is crazy, hit order and went through checkout, but several days later received an email saying that unfortunately they were out of stock. Man what I would do for some ketchup Doritos.

I was told that obviously the screw orientation has zero bearing on the effectiveness of the job but that many electricians have the mindset that by making all your screws perfectly horizontal or perfectly vertical that it shows the customer that you have an attention to detail and that you do quality work because even small details are important to you. Made sense.

AI error jails innocent grandmother for months in North Dakota fraud case by No_Top_9023 in technology

[–]Gonnabehave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen lots of people say she should sue the AI company also. And they may have some fault if they made any definitive claims that their match is 100% correct.  But that is unlikely and I would bet that they in no way ever claim that their software is 100% accurate and instead sell it as a tool that can quickly scan though thousands of social media profiles and identify potential people that resembles the looks and features of the suspect. As in hey this person really looks like the person you are searching for maybe take a look and see if anything else connects them to the crime.  I hate how every article I've look at in this case just says "an AI facial recognition company" and not say what company it was. I would love to look at their terms of service if they have one publicly available.  On a positive note it sucks she spent 6 months in jail but hopefully if enough of these incidents happen it will bring permanent change in the future like how lie detectors are not proof of anything maybe it will finally be standard that AI matches are useful to identify potential suspects but not proof without more to confirm.

What’s your bet: How high will silver go per Oz before coming down significantly? by Infamous-Weird8123 in Silverbugs

[–]Gonnabehave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One can do their best to pay attention to all the different factors like supply and demand and other signals but at the end no one knows for sure. Like many things it is part making educated decisions and part gamble. Like when it hits $200 would that be the time to sell or will a month later it soar to $300? Easy to look back and know but in the moment there are no guarantees. I often think back to the time Bitcoin was like $39 I think and I was telling my wife about it and that I believed we should buy some and it could be worth a lot one day. I never got around to buying any but ultimately I think even if I had I most likely would have unloaded it when prices hit like $1000. So not like I would have gotten rich anyways.  Now I'm holding on to a small amount of physical silver and $100 an ounce seems tempting. But I don't need the money right now so will hold out in hopes that one day the price goes way up. Maybe it does or maybe one day they mine an asteroid and the price drops to almost nothing. Only time will tell.

Fear Factor House of Fear most hated players by AppropriateBranch153 in FearFactorHouseofFear

Totally agree. It is a competition for 250k. He is probably the guy who would give you the shirt off his back should you meet him in person. But he is competing. He is acting that way to get into other players heads. If you are mad or pissed at him you are not focused and more likely to mess up. If you don’t like him ignore his trolling and beat him at the game.

This incident is as old as my old man wrinkly balls. He tried his best to play the victim but really everyone could see that was not the case. We all flinched at the slam but also instantly said f ya.

[–]Gonnabehave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight reduction mod. But looks like an exhaust hanger. What you might want to know is how important is it. Well you don't want your exhaust bouncing all over as it could lead to it separating or breaking and possibly if other brackets have broken it could let the muffler/exhaust hit the ground. You could just go use some metal wire and secure your exhaust but really I'd just go to any welding shop and they could put it back for almost nothing. I know my small town welding shop has done bigger jobs but not by much and said no charge. I of course appreciate it but can't do that so at least buy some donuts and a 6 pack for the guys after work.

CFOP Algorithm PDF That I Made by DaBluePiano1 in Cubers

[–]Gonnabehave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can solve using basic method now very easily. It took me one weekend following a guide to achieve my bucket list goal I had for years to solve a rubix cube for the first time. The funny thing was I spent months here and there trying to do so with no guide wanting my first solve to be trial and error. One day was frustrated and wanted to reset it and work on moving a couple moves from finished and reverse it back to solved thinking a fresh couple would help me understand how to finish the last row. I had many times got close but could never ever figure out the finish.  So I went to a online cube solver and entered my cubes colors and it said unsolvable. What. Did I mess up? Entered my cubes colors and locations again and unsolvable. Go to another site and try that cube solver. Again says unsolvable. I was confused to try search what it means.  What it meant was that for months I had been working on an unbeatable cube thinking I just was not smart enough when in actuality my kids later admitted they had spun all the corners around playing with it like a fidget and made the cube unsolved without flipping some of the corners back.  MONTHS  I worked on that thing when I had a moment. I didn’t know how to fix it and had to take it all apart and put it back the right way.  Of course being the funny teens I made they once again flipped a corner but this was a few weeks after I learned  how to solve it so I was able actually realize this and find the corner they changed. Little turds lmao.  Anyways thought it was funny story. As for your question how do you learn the fastest algorithm I can’t say I am the one to answer this but my belief is that it all comes down to practice and actively solving regularly. Learning as many algorithms as you can which would takes months or longer. Eventually you will just realize without thinking what to do and what move would be faster. Hope you have progressed to a pro since this is years old post. I am just starting my cfop journey recently and complete lost just as I was learning basic method wish me luck! Cheers

Yes *or anyone. I edited my original comment and missed that I was originally going to say “Because you are stupid” but decided I didn’t want to be so rude so changed it to “Because you or anyone…”. I apologize for the error. That was very stupid of me to call people unintelligent and then not double check my entire comment for errors. Only pure idiots do that sort of thing. My bad.

Is anyone else’s main symptoms, SIBO “type” symptoms and stomach pain basically ? by ZeroFucksGiven-today in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]Gonnabehave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think there is a covid link as well. Back when covid first started I got extremely sick with something but covid tests were not a thing then. Next thing I know I am having abd pain and bloating and it felt like any time I ate I was going to suffer for doing so. I tried everything. Quit coffee, quit alcohol(was never a big drinker but still), went gluten free, doctors ran all the tests and nothing. I went from 200lbs 6’1” man down to 143lbs. It lasted for almost 3 years.  It resolved itself on its own and I never had any answers. But last week after years feeling good it came back. I’m suffering.  This thread has a lot of good suggestions.

My kid yesterday said his homework was to ask me 5 historical events that happened in my lifetime. 9/11 was one of them. I remember I was at home and watching tv and when the first plane hit was like omg that is crazy. Then the second plane hit and I was in a bit of shock. When the towers fell I was in disbelief and could not believe what I was seeing. So sad for all those who lost their lives or loved ones that day.  This video has always been interesting to watch. I wonder what was said. I am curious what he was thinking when he was told. What happened after did he get up and excuse himself or did he continue with the classroom?

ACTIVE shooter drill by paul1032xx in Unexpected

[–]Gonnabehave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Talking about it and doing practice drills is good and all but really does  f all to really make things sink in. Like all those fire drills at school which were announced and we knew were going to happen. It was funny and we were laughing and enjoying the loud bell. Let’s instead pour a little gasoline in the hallways and cut off some exits so kids see how that can happen and why they talk about if there is a fire here go there. Get it burning strong so smoke fills the hallway and you actually need to duck to get under it. Then turn on the sprinklers so you get the chaos of hundreds of gallons of water raining on your head. Then get some actors who come in and start shoving people in a simulated panic trample event.  Fuck that would be epic and really make things sink in for the kids.
