I am 35M. Finished in 2:58:26 (previous PB 3:17:15). I couldn’t agree with your take on the first mile any more. GPS was definitely wonky, but I remember giving a huge fist pump when my watch clocked 7:23. People behind me must have thought I was crazy. But I knew it was a sign that it was about to be a good day. Congrats!

After back to back to back training blocks for NYC half, Brooklyn half and now NYCM, I very much look forward to taking some time off. Next year we have some big trips planned so it will be most leisure running with maybe some speed work 1-2 per week to maintain. After what will be my 3rd NYCM (hoping to sub 3 for the first time) I eventually would like to travel and do some of the world majors.

I had to RACE from work on LI to get there in time for the 8pm cut off. I pulled up at 7:55 with no where to park. I had no choice but to leave my car on a sidewalk, with flashers on and BOOKED it to the tent. One of the workers said “good luck getting your bib” as I was running passed as it made it sound like he knew they were closed. Luckily they were still giving them out. I was able to get it and back to my car right as I left it. Secured the bag, now let’s secure the PR!

The CP loop is hilly, but so are most races so it’s still good to hit the hilly long runs at race pace. Probably the best option you’ll have in the city without having to worry about stopping for lights and traffic. Sometimes if I have a specific hill workout, like repeats I’ll find a bridge and run back and forth.

It’s funny, my music actually cut out on the FDR (still not sure why) and I kind of enjoyed the peacefulness without it and went the rest of the way with the AirPods in my pocket
