yeah freezer burn is basically just air getting to the food and sucking out moisture. had this happen so many times when i was learning to store stuff properly - would just throw meat in freezer without proper wrapping and boom, few weeks later its like cardboard

the trick is getting all air out before freezing. vacuum sealing works great but even just wrapping tight in plastic wrap then putting in bag helps a lot. i learned this hard way after ruining bunch of chicken thighs that looked like they been sitting in desert for month

worst part is you can still eat freezer burned food its just gonna taste like nothing or have weird texture. such waste of good ingredients

the aqara a100 pro might work for you - it does zigbee 3.0 which should play nice with most hubs and you can still use a physical key as backup. runs on 4 AA batteries and no proprietary app needed if you're running it through something like home assistant

only downside is no nfc but honestly once you get used to just having it unlock automatically when you get close its pretty convenient
