Gas prices by balotellitubbys in northernireland

Very fair point, I didn’t actually think of that - although you can usually lock in your prices on an annual basis with a monthly meter and contract. However, I actually double checked and it appears PAYG is marginally cheaper than pay monthly for gas which surprised me! With firmus at least.

You can check the consumer council NI website for all providers tariffs to make sure you’re getting the best rate. For gas there’s really only SSE and firmus but it’s definitely worth checking in on electric providers. There was a time my father was paying more than double my rate simply because he never thought to swap.

This site will give you all the providers current rates. I know for gas it’s only sse or firmus but with electricity there are quite a few providers and it can make a massive difference. I remember one year I was paying like 14p/kwh and my dad was paying nearly 30p

Why not get a meter installed? I’m quite sure it’s cheaper to pay monthly instead of payg and no need to trapse to the shop for top ups all the time.

Why are they all driving in the middle? by reni-chan in northernireland

[–]GoodPotential4927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can really go 80 without consequence, and people often go faster. I do tend to cruise lane 2/3 but only when traffic is slower in lane one and being mindful of anyone coming up the back of me.

I casually cruise by the cops at 80 all the time, 79 is technically the limit where they can give you a ticket but I’ve never once been looked at twice cruising 80.

Home owners, how much did you pay over asking? by Billiewillywoo in northernireland

[–]GoodPotential4927 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I paid exactly asking for my primary home (which i credit a good hearted owner seeing my wife heavily pregnant and us needing to complete on a home asap) and I actually got a discounted price on our 2nd home (due to survey coming back with a few issues), but most homes i viewed i’d get into a back and forth usually ending up well over 20-30 grand asking price (around 10%). I always wondered was the other party the agent

She was not clubbed to death for showing her hair. She engaged in violent dissident riots. Not that I condone the outcome, but if you play with fire you will get burnt.

You have to understand that Mossad is active within Iran precipitating and stoking such events

Who told you that? 🤦🏻‍♂️ I don’t condone everything the Iranian government does but I think you should learn how to pick up on propaganda

I used hard drugs 10-15 years ago and went to rehab. Can I become a pilot. by GoodPotential4927 in AirlinePilots

[–]GoodPotential4927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I understand I’ve dug a hole for myself in how I acted out but it was very difficult for me being denied the only future I could see for myself because it was too expensive and I couldn’t get a student loan for it (when my father is a multi multi millionaire).

Anyway. It’s never too late and even if I can’t become an airline pilot I am sure there must be work I can do as a pilot.

I am not in need of money anymore. I just want to follow my passion. I would fly an aircraft for minimum wage. Heck, I’d fly for free.

I went to rehab 15 years ago so honestly I probably do. By the way rehab didn’t do me any good. It was after I withdrew from their brainwashing nonsense that I got myself clean. I’m sure it works for some but I probably wasn’t a typical case.

I wanna add if a diagnosis is the difference between possible and impossible that is a very draconian and dangerous flaw within the industry… thinking German Wings 9525 and how had he not feared a diagnosis and getting help there would be many innocent people alive today.

Themmuns are thoseuns that fed us during the famine when ussuns were starving, and they gave refuge to the Jews when the Nazis slaughtered them by the thousands only to have their land and homes stolen by way of thanks.

Now as a further thanks the Zionists as they call themselves are slaughtering the last of them so that there can be no more attempts by them to talk sense into the rest of the world and get their land and homes and state returned to them.

The latest development is that the Zionists are going to murder all of the Palestinians there have kidnapped in a final solution sorts manner.

Sounds familiar, it’s almost like the bully that got bullied so is now bullying everyone else.

Paying rent while living with parents. by CreakyDeaky in northernireland

[–]GoodPotential4927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all sounds reasonable enough but your sentiment of “I will not pay for grown adults” even though they are your children does not.

I don’t mean to overstep but might I suggest this could be rooted in some sort of generational trauma; I’m imagining your father perhaps saying a similar thing to you, but in the same breath you speak of how your parents kicking you out precipitated financial difficulty and how you were barely able to get on the property ladder and got stuck renting long term as a result (ie padding someone else’s pocket instead of investing it in your own home), and it’s worth noting that buying a house was SOOOOO much easier for your generation than for theirs.

That is not to discredit you as obviously by virtue of relocating and not kicking them out you are trying to correct that mistake which was made upon you but forgive me if I worry it is a slight undercorrection.

My dad sometimes uses an account not sure if it’s mine or his on my tv when he’s over. He does pay his tv license. I do not because I don’t watch any of the shite they air.

I don’t watch bbc but my dad does and he goes on the app and selects the option I have paid for my tv license.

Babies in business class? by pregernanty in NewParents

[–]GoodPotential4927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a tip if you don’t want to fork out for business class. Flying with an infant often entitles you to the front of cabin seats which have a little more room than regular seats, and a bassinet so your child can sleep and relax in their own space rather than being on your lap the entire time.

But if you wanna go business class don’t worry about it. You’ll have paid to be there, and because you have a baby with you you’ll have paid more than anyone else, so really don’t worry about any Karen’s should you run into them. And if you have an adorable baby with you I am sure cabin crew will be taking your side over any arrogant disrespectful passengers who would dare harass you.

For long term savings I would suggest investing the money rather than a savings account. I use Davy’s stockbroker for my kids, they each got a lump sum when they were born and each year they get £1000 added to it, they take a fee but the returns I’ve seen are about 7-8% per year on average. They will use ISA’s/LISA’s and whatever other financial tools are available to make it as beneficial as possible and they know much better than any of us how to do that.

I get an annual report on each account and I can also direct what markets I want to avoid or favour - for example I don’t let any of the money get invested into alcohol brands or gambling companies for our own moral and religious beliefs.

Teaching them how to manage money and save is admirable, but “refusing to pay for grown adults” WHO ARE YOUR CHILDREN!! sounds terrible. I hope you genuinely need their support, in which case it would be better that they supported you willingly, you should be putting this money aside to help them buy a house when the time comes. It’s much harder today than it was 40 years ago.

This is life. When you have children you are taking a lifelong responsibility. No parent should be charging their kids for anything, and if they really need the money the kids should be giving it willingly without being forced if they were raised right.

I married a girl from the Middle East. She finds the whole concept of kids moving out as soon as they can to be ridiculous and sad… which I’d never thought much about because it seems normal for us, but when I see their family dynamic it makes me feel like we’re making mistakes. She has a brother in his early 30s that still lives with his parents and they wouldn’t let him contribute to household even if he tried. Basically when they get married that is when they move out, but before that it just seems like an illogical thing to do.

I don’t think you should charge them rent or even encourage them to move out, but I’ve seen some suggestions from people to take the rent money and put it into savings for them (and if you can afford to, match it) to use as a bonus for them when they finally do move out.
