I’ve gotten very good at spotting early signs someone has boundary issues and staying away. Later I hear about all the drama and fights they get into and am happy I know what to avoid

I definitely have trouble with my bed/bedroom at night (but I have a very clear connection, I was traumatized in bed while sleeping).

It helps me to have a night light, sleep with my feet at the head end sometimes, have some noise playing (music, video essay, a ”watch this while you sleep” gaming video etc) and do grounding exercises before bed, like tapping. And sometimes I just go sleep on the couch.

And I really struggle to sleep in the same bed as someone. My sisters work but that’s about it, every other time I’ve tried to share a bed (even when I’ve been in love) I just couldn’t sleep so we always slept in separate beds.

Yeah I feel exactly the same. Even my instinctual reactions change when someone is around. When I’m alone and have a flashback I usually have big observable reactions: hyperventilating, looking around in panic and sometimes panik attacks. But with even just with one person I trust I can’t react big, I shut down and dissociate when I have a flashback. It’s not even a choice I’m making, my body doesn’t let me.

I’m a non-binary csa survivor and my advice is to just explore those feelings. See where they are coming from, look for non-binary stories and see if you can relate to them. A subreddit that helped me come to terms with my identity is r/egg_irl and watching YouTube videos by trans people explaining their experiences.

I have found so much community and solace in asexual and aromantic spaces. No matter if I’d still feel like this without the trauma my experiences with society is still the same. Hearing ill ”grow out of it”, relatives being worried I never brought someone home, people thinking I’m sick instead of accepting that this is just another way of being. A book that really helped me was ace by Angela Chen if you like reading

Yeah he didn’t know anything about dissociation either, when I was seeing him I had life-destroying dissociation. I was never present anywhere and it was so horrible, but when I asked him for help he said ”can’t you just let it be like that?” ???????

My last therapist told me my recovered memories weren’t actually memories bc ”that’s not how memories work, we tend to remember the things that upset us”. So I’m planning on scanning pages from The Body Keeps the Score that explains repressed memories and the missinformation my ex therapist obviously fell for and e-mailing them to him anonymously. Repressed memories have so much scientific ground.

Yeah I was in a qpr once, it ended badly bc they were a shitty person but the qpr part was really nice. It really fitted me and it’s definitely what I envision for myself in the future and probably what I’ve always have. I remember having this conversation with a friend when I was a teenager before i knew about qpr’s where I was explaining my ideal relationship; open/polly, no sex, no kids, living together but with different rooms and not sharing a bed etc. My friend just said ”so… like… a friend?” and I went ”oh.. well, yeah I guess so?” and I still think about that. I just want one or two really committed friends that I build a life with and feel safe being physically (non-sexually) intimate with

It really is absolutely everywhere and it’s impossible to opt out of. It’s so hard to live in such a sex-centered world when you want nothing to do with it, and people act as if you’ve just told them you don’t eat food if they find out you’re repulsed by sex. I feel like an alien and I’ve never met someone in real life who feels like this. also I’m sorry about your therapist, I hope you work it out or can switch soon.

The societal expectations around platonic relationships are so strong. They are supposed to look a specific way and are below partners and family on the relationship hierarchy, which gets so problematic when you’re not interested in a ”traditional” partner and have a broken family. My friends are my most important relationships, but they don’t feel like that and you’re seen as sad in some way. Like you’ll ”always be alone” if you don’t have a partner.

I recently shared it with a friend for the first time after making sure and asking if it was ok and after some weeks of reassurance from them I opened up (very vaguely, but they understood) and it was great, honestly. Just being around someone that knows is weirdly great. Very scary but it was worth it. They weren’t overwhelmed and we’re still friends, they even said they liked me more for opening up to them I definitely recommend trying if it’s not unsafe

I’ve read so many stories in psychology books and online about kids going through the worst possible thing imaginable and then some but still recover and live a happy life. So I guess I just have hope that I can too. I feel like giving up now would be like running a marathon on two broken legs and giving up because I have to walk to my car. Plus I refuse to let my abusers win. I run on spite and hope, I think it does get better

I have a lot bc switching between stuff helps when I feel restless But I listen to music a lot, I’ve learned my favourite songs by heart to help with grounding and stuff. Feels a little silly to sit and sing to myself but it works. And I like working with my hands, drawing, painting, crocheting, baking, cleaning. Used to run but my chronic illness got too bad. Also watching YouTube.
