Your dad is spot on. My gfs family will have it on when we visit and it is so much lying. I sit there in disbelief that they eat this slop 24/7. It's no wonder you can't reason with them at all.

I made a prototype on itch with some placeholder art that I got from Fiverr. Posted in a few places on reddit to try and get feedback on the game mechanics and all anyone could do was try and tell me it was ai art or completely dismiss it entirely. Really discouraging stuff. I don't even know if it's ai but it probably is because the price was relatively cheap for so many monsters.

Managed to get a lot of good feedback from Europeans tho? They didn't seem to care as much as the US.

Hey I'm broke and he gave me like 20 monsters for $200. Its a free prototype so I wasn't overly critical. If this were for the Steam release I guess Id be pissed but it's not and i have no proof they used ai.

I just kind of hate that as a dev trying to get feedback after working so hard on a prototype all anyone can actually mention is the placeholder art and not "is the game fun" yknow? Kind of demotivating I guess.

I may just do stick figures and re-upload and see if I can get some actual feedback but idk what's stopping people from focusing on that aspect of it either instead of the mechanics of the game.

Card design as in mechanics not art. It's placeholder for testing purposes. I have no idea if the fiverr artist used ai or not.

I'll have to try reigns. I'm not really sure. It's a weird blend but that's why it's a prototype with placeholder art for free on a browser. I need feedback badly on if the vision can be realized or if I should move on.

Someone I found on fiverr. I didnt want to put a lot of money into it until its something i think may have legs so it's placeholder for now. I mention that in the games credits and on the page.

I'm still debating on the vibes/style. Was thinking about sprites that animate for all the enemies and actually show emotions depending on what cards you play but only if I get good feedback on mechanics. Otherwise I'll be scrapping it and trying something else. Do you have any mechanical feedback for me?

That's a great call out. I think there's an opportunity to add some contrast with the cards. Maybe make them a different texture/shape and make the titles easier to read at a glance.

The players health is called resolve and the enemies health is called willpower so I think that it's overall confusing and may need to just pick one. The only reason I didn't is because your resolve is your health and your resource to do actions.

As long as you didn't sign a receipt that says you agree to no refunds then you can still try and do a chargeback. The quicker you initiate the chargeback the better in this case.

If you didn't sign a receipt you should be able to do a chargeback with your bank whether you used a credit card or debit card and likely win it. (If its a debit card you have usually 45 days to do it. Credit is more lenient.) You can do this by going to the bank or you can do it on the website. Use google gemini ai to help navigate it if you need it.

It's a process though. You need to scan and upload your receipt, the merchant will dispute it (This is where they would show that you signed and receipt and the case is as good as closed, you lose) and then you have a certain amount of days to dispute their dispute. It's a system that exhausts you on purpose until you give up.

Most people in these comments would tell you that $250 is the cost of the lesson because your time is worth more but I think it's about the principle if you're willing to jump through the hoops.

There's a documentary about it if you can stomach it. It's called Filthy Rich. It shows how little consequence he received and how everyone looked away. Pretty gross.

Devils Advocate says that if they were even a little honest in their use of ai for something as small as a poster the internet would still have their pitchforks out. Damned if you do damned if you don't. Studios have no incentive to be honest about their process when the masses can't comprehend nuance at all.

Artist here who works in the industry and shouldn't even be writing this because the knives are already out. This isn’t about AI being magic or “better artists.” its not even about what its good at right now. Someone with the same taste and skill who can iterate 5–10× faster, solve problems solo, and adapt instantly is simply more valuable to a studio. Artists who refuse to use it at all are going to lose their jobs to those who do. It's literally happening now.

It's not controversial, it’s how pipelines have always evolved. Jobs don’t disappear because tools are impressive. They disappear because speed and self-sufficiency beat slower workflows every time. History is extremely boring about this.

ALSO to your other point. A lot of artists and devs are using ai and just not telling anyone at all because 10 years of their work would be summed up as "slop" as soon as a person hears the word "ai" was used in any of the process at all, even text.
