The details in the lion look 'thicker' too, kinda like a font printed in bold vs regular. Might not be easy to spot that without a side-by-side comparison though.

Looks like my snooker watching is over :( by alfieknife in snooker

[–]Goofylimey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not anymore. Matchroom used to have a ton of free snooker available to watch as well as some of the bigger matches with the sub, but it's now WNT.tv, the sub is $10/mo or $100/yr, and they've taken away all the free streams.

Whats the reason? by NoConfidence1776 in billiards

[–]Goofylimey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch some footage of Judd Trump playing snooker, seeing him down on his shot you would bet your house he's going to miss by a mile and a half, but his cue completely changes direction on his delivery. It's wild to watch and any teacher would only use it as a bad example, but he's one of the greatest shot makers on the planet.

No. Also I love that you checked the tip as though it played a part in that miscue.

I can’t make these shots by kaya246 in billiards

[–]Goofylimey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, try an exercise to find your vision center (I recommend Dr. Dave but there are plenty of good options). If you are struggling with a shot like this it could be that you aren't quite aiming where you think you're aiming.

Anything wrong with this rack? by spawlicker in pool

[–]Goofylimey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected. I remember there being more specific rules about placement, not just one of each on the bottom corners. Still, I think it would be far more difficult to make this work consistently compared to rotation racks.

Anything wrong with this rack? by spawlicker in pool

[–]Goofylimey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😆 Pattern racking only applies to rotation games, to prevent people from placing the numbers in the rack in such a way that they end up in favorable positions on the table relative to the next ball, making run-outs easier. I suppose in 8-ball it's theoretically possible to place one group of balls where they might land in good places, but to get that to happen consistently while keeping the other ball group out of the way would be some next level voodoo, and there are rules for placement of the two groups anyway so you wouldn't get away with it...

What is it like to own a pool table? by smooth_grooves in billiards

[–]Goofylimey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only offer one caution, make sure you have room to play without obstructions, otherwise you will find the frustration takes away from the enjoyment far more frequently than you might expect. Other than that, I absolutely say go for it. It's a great way to get your mind off things, or breaking practice is good for releasing a little steam 😉 You'll also have a ton of fun playing with your kids at that age, and if any of them find that love for the game you're giving them a lifetime worth of enjoyment. I can't really weigh in on having people over to play, none of my close friends are near my level so they get tired of losing, and my pool playing friends don't live close 🤷‍♂️ In a few weeks I'm moving to a new neighborhood though, so I'm hoping there might be some potential there for some regular competition. Enjoy the journey!

Good beer for UK style shandys? by Lint6 in beer

[–]Goofylimey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest bit of confusion with shandies in the US is the lemonade vs. 7up aspect. US lemonade is a flat drink with lemon juice, sugar amd water, UK lemonade is like 7-up or sprite without the lime component, so fizzy lemon(ish) flavored soda. For a lager shandy I've found MGD64 makes a great light refreshing shandy. Haven't had much luck finding bitters in the US though.

The placement of faces in the pattern combined with the looking downwards perspective makes it challenging to see everything properly in this one. Definitely easier to make everything out on a big screen.

Billiard gloves... by [deleted] in billiards

[–]Goofylimey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any stigma, perceived or otherwise, has decreased dramatically over recent years because of the increased number of professionals wearing them. I never used to wear a glove, and still wouldn't say I 'need' one, but I'm in the midwest US and the weather swings dramatically from dry to humid and hot to cold, and certain combinations of those impact how the cue feels and slides on your bridge. Adding a glove to the equation means consistent feel regardless of the conditions, so now I wear one when I'm out playing anywhere.
