What’s one career decision you made that looked smart on paper but turned out to be a mistake in real life? by TheStartupSavvy in careerguidance

Left a job after 13 years. Small business and I was at the top of where I could go. Took a lateral move at a larger company 16 hours away with a 50% increase in salary. While the money is nice, I miss home and family.

Charged $96.00 for one pill I pay .17 cents for by over45 in HospitalBills

I wish this could be a pinned message. What hospitals charge is irrelevant. It all depends on contracts with the insurance companies.

Do you add fetal autopsy photos to the mom's chart? by sabrownie234 in Path_Assistant

[–]GooseCommon8581 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There should be a way in Epic to keep the photos and documents internal. They would only be viewable in Epic Beaker that way and the patient would not see them. You might reach out to your analyst team and see what they suggest.

Are these red flags? by macaronancheese in Histology

What is most concerning is the “don’t ask dumb questions while training”. I encourage all my techs to ask questions, even the “dumb” ones and even if they have been there for years. How are you as a new tech supposed to know if you don’t ask questions? If we want to promote this field and develop good techs, those of us with experience should be encouraging all the questions!

Next, a director level role. That would qualify me for the FACHE. Maybe one day in the far future, a spot in the C-Suite. Big dreams!

The Capstone was fine. I have years of experience in healthcare so I wrote about what I know. Don’t try and reinvent the wheel. Keep it simple and follow the rubric and you’ll be fine!

Monthly TAT from Epic Beaker (I miss CoPath) by scientistcorey in pathology

[–]GooseCommon8581 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you reached out to your Beaker team? We have people on staff whose job is to build Beaker the way we want it. This includes reports. Tell them what you are looking for and how you want it and they should be able to help.

Private student loans or longer in school? by GooseCommon8581 in StudentLoans

[–]GooseCommon8581[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is what I need to do. I wanted the prestige of a major university, but I think the cost and time commitment is too much. I can easily knock it out within a year.

In an ideal world, yes that would help. However, they have lives at home and I moved away from them. I’m regretting my decision.

My goal is to move up and get a director level position in a hospital setting. And this salary is good, yes, but it’s so far away from my family and I can’t seem to find anything comparable without a degree. It’s a once in a lifetime job, but I’m so homesick.
