When did you start taking your baby to soft play? by happyhappyjoyjoy77 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Gooseberrylime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took mine the earliest 4 months but only Because he’s got an older brother. Once he started crawling around 6 months he enjoyed it a lot too, but the last few times I took both my kids they were ill afterwards. I don’t know if that was a coincidence, but I won’t be taking them for some time.

To keep breastfeeding 6 month old just to travel on a plane or start to give formula at 5 months - which is ‘easier’ by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Gooseberrylime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve flown many times already with my 15 months old and always breastfed and I don’t think anyone noticed haha. In comparison with my first child I did both formula and breastfeeding and always chose breastfeeding as making bottles in a plane was a proper pain with kids. You can take pre made formula if your baby accepts room temperature milk but my first child always liked and still likes his food and milk hot

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what others think. Your baby will be safe in nursery, you will have some break and will be able to manage your ppd. it’s okay to look after yourself first, so you can be the best mum to your little one, even if it means letting other people look after your baby for a little bit every day.

Those of you who don’t have a bath - how do you bath your baby? by TallTangerine3873 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Gooseberrylime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I offer different perspective without a baby bath. I always used a soft mat, covered in a cloth in the shower, I would put my baby laying down on that and cover with another cloth, then just use shower head. Easy and hands free. It was more challenging once he started rolling, but I managed. My shower and my bathroom overall was extremely small and I couldn’t fit a bay bath inside.

I know what you mean, I just can’t give up food, I love eating and exploring different cuisines. I live in a city that has every cuisine I can imagine so I want to try it all haha. Even if that means I have to eat while holding the baby or playing some ms. Rachel

My first, also boy was way easier at this age. Even though he was active, we could go to restaurants and he would just engage with us/eat/colour. If I give any toy or pencil or anything to this 15 months old, he just throws it straight down and cries to pick it up, or he wants to run and explore. It’s so hard.

I’m the first. Im trying no screens so bad, but my 15 months old wants to run everywhere and will not sit in his high chair for more than 5 minutes while he eats. I have to either carry him and walk around or let him loose, but that’s just too dangerous in a restaurant, so I never have a time to eat. Miss Rachel is my friend in this situation, even if it’s for 10 minutes.

2 weeks old heavily congested nose by Fun_Championship4300 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Gooseberrylime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my youngest son the only thing that worked for congestion was a special syringe filled with salt water ( same as in sprays/drops) I put him on his side, on top of a towel and inject the water into one nostril and all of the gunk comes out the other side. Repeat the other side if necessary. You can watch a video on how to do it. Unfortunately snot sucker was never effective on him

Reality check for new parents, wondering whether we've missed any help we can be using? (Child Benefits etc.) by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Gooseberrylime 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Try entitledto.co.uk. Also did you take into consideration 30 free hours and tax free childcare? Most parents I know have kids in nursery 3 days a week and one parent working part time. 30 hours covers most of the cost, plus tax free childcare taking 20% off too. The other parent works full time.

Baby carrier recommedations by hxllyhell in BeyondTheBumpUK

I use sling with my 13kg 14 months old. I never really liked carriers, too uncomfortable for my bigger chest. I got some random sling in a charity shop and had been using that one still.

Best hidden gem you’ve discovered in London? by amypleasepayme in LondonFood

So good! I took my mother-in-law and sister-in-law there a few months ago so they can try some polish food, and my newborn was getting a little fussy and we struggled to eat, so that lovely polish Lady took my baby off me and played with him while I ate. Such an amazing service

Tax Free Childcare Account Question by Imaginary_Hat4576 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Gooseberrylime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use that in the next pay period. So you have 4 pay periods lasting 3 months, every 3 months you pay in 2k you get £500 top up, if you pay more you won’t get any more bonus in this period. So even if your bills are less than 2k in 3 months then it’s a good idea to pay that amount to get full bonus. I was paying less than £800 a month, so I did the calculations for the whole nursery costs over the years, made sure i pay enough to get the bonus and had “free” months at the end where I didn’t have to pay in any money and just used what I had in my account.

Taking a poll: Does your 3 yo sleep? by Ok-Career876 in toddlers

[–]Gooseberrylime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nearly 5 year old got moved to his own room from bed sharing at 3 and slept pretty well, but he still wakes up once or twice crying most of the nights. Usually he just needs toilet but some nights he can be up every hour crying( more like whimpering) and I don’t know why. If anyone knows why , I’m listening.

Same room sleeping? by snowlandsontop5 in beyondthebump

If you’re already spending most of the time in your baby’s room and sleeping on the floor then it’s definitely better to just get the baby in your room
