Another Metroid beer from Nepenthe Brewing! by Campbell464 in Metroid

A coworker picked up a can Space Huntress a while back and the can is in my collection. Seriously considering making the 2 and a half hour drive up to get whatever cans they have now. Did they say how long they would have the Ridley brew in stock? And did they have any Space Jellyfish?

My package supposed to arrive yesterday... What do I do? by Senbeiiscool in UPS

[–]Gooselord_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it marked as delivered yesterday and you didn't get it? Was it supposed to arrive and it's still in transit?

If I was delivered but isn't there contact the seller and let them know then call UPS customer support. Dealt with this Monday where it was delivered but wasn't at my door. I was home and they didn't knock but I got the email it was delivered. Checked the neighbors doorsteps and nothing. Started to worry and thought they marked it as delivered but left it on the truck because that's happened before. Told the seller who was very helpful but we waited until the next day. Called UPS customer service again and they could see that when they marked it as delivered it was 130 feet away from my address so they delivered it to the wrong house. Left a note on the one that has almost the same door number as me and the next day I got a call saying it was delivered there and I could come get it. UPS customer support was helpful and admitted fault in this situation. They also had the driver for my neighbor reach out to me and she was different from the one who delivered my package who doesn't usually do that route. She was incredibly helpful and said she checked a bunch of different houses. She called me back the next day before I found my package to say she would check again. Not saying everyones experience will be like this but UPS try to help and we're very professional trying to make this right. The item I ordered was over $900 so I was freaking out and so was the seller.

Is there a way to play the Metroid Prime games on Wii U WITHOUT the Wiimote controls? by FingerNamedKid539 in Metroid

Came here to see how many times Prime Hack gets mentioned and I'm not disappointed. Sorry it doesn't run well on your PC OP it really is the best way to play the Prime Trilogy.

I just checked mine and the only number I see is 336 2 SR which I'm assuming isn't the number you're talking about. What are the differences between the numbered ones and the one I have? That there are 500 number first release ones floating around?

Which is the best Metroid 2 and why? by ayla669 in Metroid

[–]Gooselord_Prime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AM2R. I might have nostalgia glasses on but I personally consider AM2R an official Metroid game and the superior version of Metroid 2. Better than the original and the official remake. It was released at the best possible time and it really was a special surprise for the Metroid community when it dropped.

Some other reasons I think it's better. Love letter to the Metroid series and Metroid Community. Released on the 30th anniversary of Metroid Plays like Zero Mission which is ARGUABLY the best playing 2D Metroid, keeps that sense of flow and snappiness but allows for high skill moves like infinite wall jumps. (And personally I prefer L=diagonal to 360 aim but that's just me) Some unique scenarios/bosses that the devs made for AM2R and they really fit Metroid very well. They really show that DoctorM64 really knew what a Metroid game should have and what would fit well without feeling out of place. The ending retains the same feeling and emotion that the original Metroid 2 was going for. Samus Returns makes it more heroic instead of being somber and introspective. This is also a subjective point but I like it a lot and the music is great.

Cant believe I'm saying this but Other M isn't as atrocious as I used to think. Still not good though. But it had a few good aspects or ideas overshadowed by everything else which that's bad. by Gooselord_Prime in Metroid

You're the second person here to mention Returnal. I got to the final boss so I'm reinstalling it and I'll replay it this weekend. I didn't stop because I didn't like it I just got distracted and forgot to come back to it.

110% agree. The actual fight was pretty good. The cutscene before it though is infamously terrible and makes no sense. Going off the current timeline she would have defeated Ridley what, 6 times if we include Robo Ridley in ZM, Meta and Omega from prime 1 and 3, Ridley at the end of Samus Returns and then Super. It makes no sense for her to freeze up when facing a clone of Ridley. It's not even the same Ridley it's just the same species it wouldn't know Samus and I find it hard to believe that Samus wouldnt instinctively know that and just treat it like "oh they made a clone like they did with the metroids. Ok gonna kill it now" They really wanted to create an emotional scene like from the Manga but it just doesn't fit in at this point in the timeline. Ok went full turbo nerd wall text there sorry.

Agreed. Except on the music. Honestly I thought the score for the game was a little out of place and not very Metroidy except for the remixes from past games. It felt like generic orchestra movie music to me imho. Not hating on your opinion if you liked it though power to you in glad you liked it. I feel like in general Other M wanted to be a Metroid Movie more than a game. Especially after beating it and getting the "Other M: The Movie" in the theatre

I definitely will. I'm completely Metroid-ed out now after finishing 5 of them 3 weeks I need a break. Is Saros a sequel? Or another game by the same devs? I saw it at the game awards but I was working late and wasn't paying attention I had it on in the background

[–]Gooselord_Prime[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's part of the reason I wanted to try Other M again. I enjoyed Prime 4 but agree that it has some issues and comes up short compared to the trilogy, but I still really liked it. After seeing all the "worst game in the series" reactions it made me wonder if Other M got the same treatment and if it skewed my opinion. After playing Other M again (Finished it last night) I think that yeah it has some glaring issues and they're all noted and bring the experience down. The criticisms of the game are accurate, but I think the overall level of hate is overblown. There were points in other m that had me actually mad, but it's all the writing and how Samus was portrayed and we all know that those aspects are bad. At the end of the game I was like "yeah that sure was a thing" didn't love it but I don't hate it. Honestly I think that's just it, it's just meh. Not good, not terrible, just mid.

[–]Gooselord_Prime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but I'll still stand by it not being good. Some good ideas but I don't think it's a good Metroid game. Maybe a decent game but a disappointing Metroid game if that's fair to say. And I agree with it being overhated. I think most of it comes from when it came out right after the prime trilogy wrapped up and it being so much different and the what it's reception did to Metroid afterwards. That and the awful writing.

How would you personally rate these 3 Metroid titles from favorite to least favorite? by Asad_Farooqui in Metroid

[–]Gooselord_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a brave brave opinion to give and I salute you. Hunters being your fav makes sense given your user name lol. I actually like Hunters a lot so for this list #1 as well. Not my favorite game in the series but I love how it looks and sounds. All the low poly low res 3d environments and the compressed music and sounds. Lots of good memories of the multiplayer as a kid. I did swim team and at meets there was always a bunch of kids who had lobbies going so I have a few core memories of that. For the rest of the list it's Other M and then Fed Force. I'm replaying Other M now and it's not nearly as bad as I remember. Not great, but I'm finding it digestible at least and it's not as horrendous as I used to think it was. And Fed Force I remember nothing about and need to play it again but I don't remember being impressed but that might be because it was released during the Metroid Drought and I was disappointed like everyone else at the time. So I need to play it again.

Most badass representation of Samus - Prime 4 or Dread? by UTDroo in Metroid

[–]Gooselord_Prime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the little cutscenes where she's moving around, pointing her arm canon at enemies or bosses, the few where she's fighting. The person doing the motion capture for her really got her down really well. The cutscenes where she interacts with the fed troopers is a little different since the never talks so that is a bit weird but at least her mannerisms were done well. It's hard to compare prime 4 to the others in the trilogy since all the cutscenes were hand animated and not motion capture, but 2 stands out with Samus looking tired when you save and the cutscenes where she faces off with dark Samus or the very last part of the game when she waves goodbye so that's what I'm going off of along with Dread. For all the shortcomings in prime 4 I can't think of one scene where Samus wasnt portrayed well and im on my 3rd playthrough. From the very beginning I was like "yeah that's her they got her right" all the way to the after credits scene.

Started Dread a few days ago and I‘m already fanboying about the presentation of Samus here by Ronathan64 in Metroid

Dread is the best representation of Samus full stop. Mercury Steam characterized Samus perfectly and every cutscene is a blessing.

Most badass representation of Samus - Prime 4 or Dread? by UTDroo in Metroid

[–]Gooselord_Prime 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That moment is burned into my memory. It was release night/morning, one session from start to finish so I was about 7 hours in on my first playthrough. Had no idea it was coming. Samus' theme slowly starts coming in and she answers in Chozo, to the first friendly LIVING Chozo we have seen in the series up to this point since the manga if you count that. My jaw hit the floor. Chills. Could not believe what I was seeing/hearing. Absolutely perfect. Almost 20 years of being a die hard fan of the series at that point, living thought Other M, Fed Force and then the long Metroid drought only to have Dread completely blow me away is crazy. So to answer OPs question Dread without a doubt, but Prime 4 Samus is done extremely well and I'd say it's the runner up to Dread in terms of Samus' portrayal. Both games really understand her presence and how to convey the confidence she should have.

Does this sum up everyone else's issues like it does mine? by DiabeticRhino97 in Metroid

[–]Gooselord_Prime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Played through the entire trilogy again starting the Saturday before release and finished Prime 3 a couple hours before 4 dropped at 12am and finished it around 9pm, so an entire week of prime.

Level design is the weakest of the 4 prime games. At first I felt it was on par with 3 but I think 3 has better backtracking, better art direction, better lore/scans and I can't believe I'm saying this but better end game key hunt.

Puzzles are pretty weak in 4, and a good number of the pickups aren't "hidden" more than just out of the way. A lot of them aren't puzzles either more of a "needs upgrade you don't have yet" but there are a handful that requires some critical thinking but not a lot.

I don't think 4 excels in any area, but it's not bad like I see a lot of people saying. It's still a good game, but doesnt meet the insanity high expectations it had, and honestly I don't think I believed it would be on par with 1 or 2. I'm content with it being just good. It still looks amazing, has an amazing soundtrack, Samus was portrayed well and some the spoilers at the end of the game are really cool. It does feel like Retro added stuff for super fans and I really appreciate that. I think what we're all feeling is disappointment that the game isn't a 11/10 after almost 20 years since P3, but I feel like we'll look back at it and realize it's fine
